Waimakariri Gorge Paddle - Jan 13, 2023

We kayaked from Mt White Bridge to the Gorge Bridge as part of training for the Coast to Coast. The Otarama gauge was at 53 cumecs (very low).
I had some issues with water on the lens, so did not get usable footage of the Rock Garden 2 entry rapid this time. We learned from another group that there is a small sneak chute to bypass this rapid 100m up-river (on river left).
2:15 - Vortex Mega Howler (~36-37 km) - Main chute pushes hard into a large rock/wave. General advice is to take the far left chute to avoid carnage. Should have been a portage at this flow (as the signs set up for the Rasdex Classic advised..!)

Nice - we paddled this on the 27th Jan at 41 cumecs - def wasn't any sneak chute away from Rock Garden 2 on that day or flow.....Mega howler was similar to your run, last chute but really had to scrape down it
