I ran a bread route and the best routes were the country routes. The best people and the best home made sandwiches from their delis. And oh the smell! Wonderful!
My cousins owned and run an old country store on the va. W. Va. Line and i always loved going in there. Old wood floors and potbelly stove and theres no better pickles in the world today than those he had in a big old wood barrel!! God i miss those days.
Country stores are just plain comfort for all. Bless this family for a great come back. Im a city Girl but have had many experiences accross America spending time in these personal businesses that serve the people and communities. Its so American.
This is really great seeing someone opening up another general store especially in the original building and i really enjoy seeing old stores like this and seeing how great they look especially on the inside and i really like it thank you again John.☕👋🇺🇲
Hi from the North West UK, thank you for such a great video, I love to see the sense of Community's coming together, this is the future, helping each other out, we have to rely on ourselves, neighbour's, friends and family especially in today's current climate. It was nice to see that the people could trace there Ancestors way back, not many families can say that back here in the UK or even know where they live any more, so sad. I've joined the channel and look forward to some more great content.
Born in Bristol. TN 85 years ago. Never got to this store, but remember others like it. Thoroughly enjoyed this video and am so happy their dream has been realized! Thank you so much for sahring.
Another great video John. You bring us back in time when the world was a different place. Keep kicking out the videos and be safe out there. From Lighthouse Cove Ontario, Canada.
What a pleasure to see lovely normal American people. It's beautiful to see the old store being returned to the community. Congratulations and all the best for the future , from an Irish man living in Germany.
Great to see family business. People need to support family business as much as possible and stay away from big box business. I know sometimes we have to but if you just spend a little time looking you can usually find what you need from family businesses.
Sir you have made me wish I lived in a place like this. It’s got beautiful scenery and just the impression on a good life. I am near London UK so I can dream
Love watching how the families keep using and preserving their family's legacy. Ancient native Roanoker here and I always remember how handing down the land in the family was a regular practice around here when I was young. When I moved to the west coast and lived for a very long time out there the people did not have that practice. I can see someone having a large greenhouse, veggie and fruit growing biz and setting up a booth outside the store. Thank you John for showing us around.
Let’s hope more of these old country stories continue to make a comeback. They’ve been sorely needed. Old homemade ice cream, cream and root beer sodas, biscuits, cornbread and all kinds of pickles would be great.
How totally cool - it reminds me of CA Snyder's Store at Indian Springs (Big Pool) Maryland. Also there is a great place in Clear Spring, Maryland called Wilson's - it is still open and is owned by a high school classmate's daughter of mine. You'd love it.
Hello there John. It is always so good to see you. WOW 😮😳 this video 📸 was absolutely amazing and incredible. I'm so thankful and grateful for Mike to get the family general store back and open it back up. Thank you all so very much for your hard work and dedication because it is very outstanding 💪. May the good Lord always bless Mike and his family and keep them safe and healthy where ever they go. And John Ward thank you so very much for everything you do. May the good Lord always bless you and keep you safe and healthy where ever you go. I'm truly happy that this old general store came back to life.
What incredibly nice and heart warming people. I really love that it is his passion to open and run a country store. Thank you so much John for going there and sharing it all with us. Cheers🎉. Brian,…. High River Alberta
Such a great story to see come about. The gentleman was gracious in giving thanks to family and friends for the help in getting the store back open. I can't wait to go on a visit soon.
My roots are in Buchanan, Russell & Tazewell, VA. My great Uncle had a country store, when he died his sister took it over. My best summers were on the mountain at Aunt Mae's store. Glad these places are coming back to life
I love this...just the tenacity of people trying to keep honest America alive. I am a bluegrass musician and sing the stories of these mountains and people and his video warms my heart.
Another great video of a great general store and restaurant. Great good ol country store and stories again. Can't beat the kindness of country folks.Great job as always John. From Millwood, ky.
What a beautiful store! I will have to drop by on my travels to western VA. That porch looks extremely inviting. Got to have some lemonade or ice cream on this porch.
Another great video installment with great people. Thanks. I especially enjoyed the last 10 minutes where the discussion turned a bit to the business aspect of starting/running these types of stores. John, if you ever get bored, I think it would be a great idea for the channel to perhaps offer a bit of informal education on that subject. Go back and interview some store owners on this on this particular subject and post it as information for folks who may be looking to step into their own adventure with an old store. If they are successful from what they have learned on your channel they may end up opening another store that you can then document on this channel!
Living in Northwest Colorado.I've been here a really long time.I was raised on the west coast. When I watch your videos , they're really nice The people seem really nice in the area.I know it's beautiful My friend that lives in Robbins North Carolina.I've been there several times in beautiful places.Beautiful, old time places.I like it.Thank you for what you do.
Another wonderful video John! Our history is so important, and keeping these stores like this and buying local is the heart of the USA! Props to this man and his family keeping his store alive. And taking to the people, I just love it. Thank you Tammy for getting ahold of John for this history jaunt! 🙏👏
Another good video. Love these old stores. My mom and dad ran an old country store in the mid 60s when I was a wee kid.We lived in the back of the store. I remember we sold gasoline for 33 cents a gallon. Keep up the good work. We will keep watching.
Hey Y'all! This video popped up in my Google news feed. I'm both proud and blessed to have you all as neighbors. Jen and I also appreciate having such a great market within Gator distance of our place. Thanks y'all!
What a great video, John. I thoroughly enjoy your channel and all the places you visit !! Probably, the most enjoyable, are the various people you get to meet !! Really nice folk❤ !!
Thank all of you for this video! It was very enjoyable to watch and bringing back this nostalgic atmosphere this community needs. Many more blessings to you all and looking forward to another video in the future with this store. You are all a blessing!❤
Nice to see a good old country store back open. I used to live a country store that had been converted into a house. Alot of some the original store equipment was still there
AS A FORMER COUNTRY STORE OWNER AT THE AGE OF 21I21IN 1980, I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS MAN & HIS FAMILY/FRIENDS HAVE RESTORED THIS OLD COUNTRY STORE. BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE CAUSE I MISS MY STORE!! MY PARENTS HAD ONE TOO, BOTH GONE NOW. HOPE TO VISIT YOU SOON AT THE STORE, I COMMEND ALL OF YOU.
What a cool nostalgic story. You won’t find tables and chairs in Walmart for people to sit down and do life together. Neither will you find a nice big porch to sit around on either.

I ADORE your store!! And family is EVERYTHING! If I lived close I’d be a daily customer for sure. This was lovely and I’m so glad that you have your heritage back! God Bless you ALL! 🙏🏼❤️
@@theappalachianchannel I sure did! Sub, I mean. Our little stores were “ Mr M’s” and we had a “Kress”. Both of them candy heaven to kids! And general stores. We would ride our bicycles to Mr M’s ( not a chain, but Kress was too far. And I think it was a chain in Texas. I don’t know about anywhere else. ) But we loved them both. Neither exists any more. Be gone all day. No one worried back then, but, we had to be home for supper, then back out we’d go til the street lights came on. Thank you again for the wonderful videos.

My Uncle Bob had a small family store for many years until the big companies put him out, he used to deliver food to people’s homes long before any of these big corporations started doing that !!!
I love seeing the old stores be reserved by people having a love for this.Just a great store with such kind sweet people (family) running it❤️This warm my heart hope to visit one day, those fish, slaw & hush puppies look delicious!!!
That's a solid looking building to be nearly 120 years old. They've done a fantastic job getting it back open. The fish plate looks wonderful!!! I enjoy listening to the people that visit and those involved in the business talk. So much pride and expressing the simple pleasures of life. God bless
These places weren't just store but gathering places for the local community. I wish we could go back to simpler times.

I grew up with pickles in a barrel too; that was in a 7-11 (small convenience store) behind my HS!
They were 25 cents in 1980.
Proud to hear you've given new life to this incredible place.
