One female Tiger shark was already waiting for us below along with the male Tiger! With poles in hand, four of the Dive Guides guarding our backs and sides as not one, not two but Three Tiger sharks, two females and one smaller male, took turns circling in front and around us kneeling at the rock wall.
The Star of the first day's shark dives was of course, "Big Momma," a 20+ft Tiger Shark, with a small school of Golden Trevally fish following close by. Nico applauds as she makes her first appearance! Notice how the area clears out of sharks when Big Momma arrives. Big Momma responded to her applause by getting close and personal with Nico. The Dive Guides fended her off with their poles. She didn't take kindly to the poles and bit one of them as she swam past the diver's wall.
Two of the Dive Guides would then head out from the front of the wall to hand feed the biggest Tiger as she cruised by. A cute Grouper pair came in to join the feed along with a few White Tips, Angel sharks, a Bull shark, nurse sharks... and fish, lots of colorful Longfin fish, Butterfly fish and some blue Niger Triggerfish.
On our last diving day, I and five fellow divers braved a 2nd double dip shark dive. "Big Momma" didn't show up. The other large female Tiger with remoras attached became the Star of the Dives. And, she was already waiting for us circling below our boat as we entered the water! She was a bit more aggressive and made runs at us a few times after the feeding was over! What a fantastic trip!
***Listen Closely at the end of the video. When the music stops. Right there, you can hear the female Tiger make a deep guttural audible sound as she passes by in front and from behind! To hear her sounds you need to listen to it with a set of good headphones. I have JBLs and it is clear. This is the deep guttural sounds I clearly heard her make throughout our 2nd shark dives. I always knew where she was without looking at her! Yes, yes, sharks and fish do not have vocal cords but they don't need vocal cords to produce audible sounds! Latest research has recorded audible sounds from fish at coral reefs. See my other video "Tiger Shark Audible Sounds Recorded with GoPro."
