If the first Wai Wai World was a symbol of Konami's hunger for the top spot, Wai Wai World 2 is the moment they hit the summit. What an amazing NES game.

You are a true retro gamer. How many can say they beat as many games as you to the fullest, not to mention unrecorded run throughs. Keep up the good work
Konami had truly reached their peak in the 90s, and this is the proof (Along other games). Too bad they didn't release a Konami Wai Wai World 3 for the Super Famicom...
I think the Goemon games were about as close as they ever got. Especially the part in GG2 that featured tons of random characters. Even Sparkster, iirc.
The short lived saga continues with *_"Konami Wai Wai World 2: SOS!! Parsley Castle"_* ( *_"ワイワイワールド2 SOS!!パセリ城"_* Wai Wai Wārudo Tsū: Pasuri Jo) on the Famicom. Oh yes, the many playthroughs that _Past Me_ have spent on this game were lots of fun. I'm sure that some of you are aware of this game's prequel; *_"Konami Wai Wai World"_* ( *_"ワイワイワールド"_* Wai Wai Wārudo) that was released a few years back on the Famicom. That was the start of an ambitious project by *_Konami_* to make a 2D _Side-Scrolling_ crossover with several of their own gaming franchises. The first game, while fun in its own merits, was a *_"Megaman"_* styled non-linear adventure that was hampered by a terrible camera system that arbitrarily made the game *WAY* harder than it had needed to be. Every character also moved very slowly, too. So, what you get is essentially... (😑 *_"Look. I see what you're TRYING to do, and it's got effort put into it, no doubt. But... your main game is hampered by a couple issues. Just a couple."_* ) Three years later in 1991... comes *_this_* game. I've always preferred this sequel over the first game. Better graphics and sound, better control, and *VASTLY* easier gameplay without the need of a guide or is even trampled by a single design flaw. I *_DO_* , however, miss the _Non-linearity_ though. POSITIVES • *Good Graphics* (Every stage looks great with lots of colors and details that I would expect from each level.) • *Good Music* (Rather than having only character themes and a few other songs, this game goes for a much more varied take with each level having its own unique music that is rather nice. Obviously, a *much* better move.) • *Smooth Controls* (The first game definitely had a similar stiffness to the *_"Castlevania"_* games on NES.) • *Fun Gameplay* (Ditching the previous _Non-linear_ system, we get more of a mostly linear game with branching paths taking you to different levels of your choice. Your main man this time around is *_"Rickle"_* and not *_"Konami Man"_* . You still have characters like *_"Bill", "Goemon" , "Upa"_* , and.. the guy from *_"Getsu Fūma Den"_* (😔 Yeah... I've never played it). While there aren't as many characters as the prequel, nor are they *_as_* fun to play as compared to the prequel, I still get a kick out of beating the crap out of guys and making my way with *_"Upa-tan"_* ... provided you find an item... that lets you change... characters...?) NEGATIVES • *Character Switching* (Unlike the first game which allowed you to swap characters with the ease of pressing both *_"Up"_* on the D-pad as well as the *_"Jump"_* button simultaneously, this game takes a page from *_"Tiny Toon Adventures"_* on NES in that you gotta find an item in the level that allow swaping between characters when colliding with it. I am not a fan of this system seeing as each character, besides having different weapons, control very, *VERY* similarly to *_"Rickle"_* . Adding insult to injury, not only does *_"Rickle"_* suck, but playing as *_"Goemon"_* and the others is limited by a ticking timer. *AND* they are more fun to play as and are much better at dealing with enemies than *_"Rickle"_* is. I can't stand when platformers do this stuff.) • 😑 *_"So... The vertical swimming section in Upa's level blows"_* (God, look at how unbearably slow and boring this is! It's even worse with the controller in your hands. I don't remember the swimming levels in *_"Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa"_* being _that_ long.) Final Rating: 7.6/10 If you're going to play these games, I recommend this one over the first game. It's easier, controls better, and still offers some fun _side-scrolling_ action with some minor formula tweaks.
I love the music of the Wai Wai world games. The musical variation for contra and castlevania were great. I rewinded the video a couple of times just to listen to them. 😂
Is almost criminal that this game wasn't released in the west. Also, sometimes it feels like they were showing off, like at 7:00 : "oh, your 16bit machines can do parallax scrolling hum? Hold my sake."
Yeah, they loved that trick. Have you ever seen Crisis Force? O_o in the first stage the whole ground opens up and you get a parallax view of the canyon below you. It's pretty wow.
@@NintendoComplete Well, that one IS criminal that it didn't came to the west. I'm checking your video on it, and it is wow for sure. Another tile you can fool someone if you say its a early 16bit title, until it starts to flicker and slowing down :-)
Upa, Goemon, Fuuma would make the Western gamers go 'Who?'. Maybe if they included Solid Snake, it could stand a better chance (What? Metal Gear existed before PS1, and it has a NES USA version! ... Even though it's not like the default MSX canon one...)
The nes is the console of my childhood, and I had a lot of fun . Into the 91, the console's problem of file size was completely solved, gaining the power to push the console to his limits . After the '91 , Nintendo decided to satisfy his loyal 8bit fan with cartridges equipped with chipsets, able to push further more the graphics, reaching almost the 16-bit feeling .
I guess this is the first time that Metalion appears outside gradius 2 msx(or the ending of nemesis gb?) Also the moai rush music is originally from gradius msx extra stage
Part of me finds it funny how this is one of the only games in which Bill Rizer can take more than one hit before losing a life, even if it technically isn't him and it's actually another character assuming his form.

It is also why I have avoided buying the first game, getting this one instead, despite the fact I own over 175 Konami games over various consoles (almost 1,300 games over several consoles in fact).
