Good tutorial here, helped me understand how to use it and set it up! Here's what I don't understand, though - the whole point (to me) of Dependencies is to not only show what items are dependent on one another, but also for automatically updating the item dates. This is typical behavior in Project Management apps like MS Project, Smartsheet, etc. I feel like Notion has done a good job of creating the "bones" of Dependencies and Subtasks, but it's not really a finished product for full-blown project management. Example: "Item A" has a Do Date of January 4th. "Item A" is blocking "Item B". "Item B" should have a Do Date of January 4th automatically. "Item B" shouldn't be allowed to have a Do Date of anything prior to the Do Date of the item it is dependent on. Does that make sense? Perhaps this isn't doable without a column like "Duration", which isn't currently an out-of-the-box Notion feature.
This is very well said - I totally agree with this. It seems like Notion is not ready to be used as a serious full-blown project management tool. Notion is mostly a generalist tool - you can also do project management within it, but it's not as robust as a specialized project management tool
Thanks for the tutorial! Maybe I missed something, but as excited as I am at the prospect of not having to use Asana, I can’t figure out how to have task templates with subtasks that copy over and over again instead of copying the completion status of the same subtask page. To summarize, I want a template for a task that also generates new subtasks but always called the same thing and assigned to the same people.
It sounds like you'd like pre-defined subtasks for your "parent" tasks. This is not possible in an intuitive way in Notion at the moment, as you correctly point out. Instead, you can use a workaround like here: ruclips.net/video/u3iGBqQfjnk/видео.html
@@roytoh2000 I am sorry about this - I think in this case, the most appropriate action is to contact Notion support from the "?" button at the bottom right corner and see whether they can help with this issue
Thanks for asking - this is very strange, as it is not happening for me (subtasks stay collapsed in my case). I am not aware of any way to keep them collapsed at the moment. Consider contacting Notion's support for this question, as it seems a weird case. You may also try the keyboard shortcut cmd-opt-T (which is the shortcut to roll/unroll groups in databases/page). I am sorry I can't help further with this - and let me know if you have any other questions or updates

I don't seem to be able to go deeper than the 3rd level of nested sub tasks. Did anybody else experience that?
That is strange, I tried and couldn't replicate this limitation in my Notion
@@simosme Same here i can't 3rd level nested sub tasks also.

@@simosme The issue is solved, I put checkbox on the most left column, once i make sure The main title is most left column then it solved
In the timeline view the subtasks keep de-collapsing. Is there a way for it to stay collapsed?
