I wish it was required by trainers- to disclose cosmetic procedures.
I was doing a class with a trainer for months. I decided to part ways with her classes because HIIT just wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore & weight lifting/ resistance training was giving me a better outlet. Let me just say she is a sweetie, I love her.
It wasn’t until after I quit her classes, that I found out she had work done on her stomach area after she had her baby.
I took her classes after having a baby & when she admitted that.
I kinda cried.. because I wouldn’t have put her on such a pedestal,
If I had known I couldn’t achieve what she did, without surgery.
It made me step back & really self evaluate who I idolize, that maybe
    I should recover more mentally.
Before using other women as inspiration.

Sorry about your loss. I appreciated your discussion on "fed is best" - a certified nutrition coach came to my middle school back in the day and held up a packet of butter, like what you'd get with a bread basket at a restaurant. She said: "Each of these packets contains one hundred calories. Do you want to get fat? No. So don't eat butter."
A certified, practicing nutritionist! As a thirteen-year-old girl (is there anything worse already than being a teen girl?), I became terrified of butter. I patted every slice of pizza with a napkin to soak up the extra grease. I thought it was a sign of willpower to go so hungry that I became faint. Why is the early 00s thin obsession coming back?
Now, in my thirties, I enjoy the bread basket at a restaurant. Especially after COVID - I don't take dinners out for granted. And I eat frozen meals when I'm stuck working twelve hour days; the alternative would be skipping dinner altogether, and an Amy's mac and cheese meal is absolutely better than nothing.
The judgment some have towards processed foods is so, so privileged. It doesn't take into account life circumstances, finances, work, caretaking obligations, dietary needs, ect. Sometimes, my schedule comes down to: do I exercise, or do I make a home cooked meal from scratch? And I choose exercise. Unfortunately, a lot of insta-nutritionists live privileged lives that don't require them to make these decisions.

I have worked with people with eating disorders. When I see this skinny girl worship online, it makes me want to shake them and tell them they do NOT want that. Yeah, I know most of them would probably tell me they don't have an eating disorder, but what else is it when women make thinness into a competition? I'm 43, so I remember the heroin chic days very well, and I know this never leads to anything good. I also know your metabolism changes as you age, which will make the fight to stay stick-thin even harder. Unless it's natural for you, just don't do it, it isn't worth it.

"Keyboard warrior experts", so true! I can't even tell you how many really nasty replies I've gotten to some comments on YT. ESPECIALLY when it comes to food/diet choices. I have made decisions to change certain things about my diet over the years, and I sometimes share it. Some people get super amped up about it, and feel they need to scold and lecture me, because I'm not doing exactly what they're doing (and apparently THEIR way is the only right way). It amazes me that people feel like they have a right to comment on someone else's dietary choices, without even knowing anything about them, or their personal health struggles!

Justina, I’m really sorry for your loss. I’m also sorry to hear about the person that made you feel bad about a protein powder. It’s not rat poison, it’s protein. You can literally argue that getting better quality ANYTHING is better…. It isn’t your responsibility to provide education on our country’s crappy unregulated supplement industry just because you FED yourself. No disrespect to that person, but their expectations of you are way beyond what they should be. Again, unless your protein powder is laced with rat poison or something, there is absolutely no reason for you to feel bad about showing what you ate. If someone wants specific nutrition advice, they should talk to an RD.

Really really loved the way you break down the problems with the mindset a lot of these accounts operate under. As someone who’s now lost most of their early 20s to illness and chronic pain and is slowly trying to use at-home fitness and exercise as a way to connect to my body again and rebuild my own autonomy, it really means a lot to see coaches online center empathy and understanding to their audience compared to a lot of the grindset BS that’s so commonplace. Not everyone has the same goals nor the same ability to accomplish them! Some things really are just harder for some people than others, and no amount of diligence will inherently change that even though we can still grow in our own ways, and it’s deeply refreshing to see that acknowledged. It also makes it easier for me to identify accounts to steer clear of for my own comfort, I couldn’t always identify why certain videos just left me feeling kind of gross but I feel like I have better understanding of what makes good fitness content for my needs. Thank you so much, and looking forward to your future videos!

Most of us eat things with a "nightmare" ingredient list now and then, and it's fine because "balance", but because you work in fitness, that can't include your protein powder? OR this person just never eats highly processed foods and is deciding to hold you to that standard. Also, not everyone can afford high-quality ingredient protein powder.
I saw you using that protein powder, and it calmed down some of the food fear I can experience. That voice can convince me to buy protein that I can't afford, instead of the cheaper stuff that may be lower quality.
The people we watch on RUclips are allowed to do things we disagree with. I think there's a thin line between feedback and feeding into a parasocial relationship, and I don't know exactly what falls where.

I've stayed in her program because I'm enjoying the workouts , the community in the chat, and I'm seeing some results + she's actually really sweet, and keeps it real in the actual program chat! BUT I do 100000% agree that her IG is super salesy and click baity and very vague to get ppl to join Ladder! Probably wouldn't have joined had I found her through IG first instead of the app! I also dont understand the isolation stuff she talks about on IG!

I remember trying out Betterme, because I was curious about their programme - their workouts were boring as hell (for me, anyway), and while the diet was actually not too bad, I felt that some of it was not sustainable at all (like eating salmon regularly - it's way too expensive for me). They also claimed that you should be careful with eating certain fruits, as it has a lot of calories - they lost me there 😂

As someone with ADHD I appreciated your point about how being fed is best.
I like literally forget to eat plus I’m on Vyanese. So I set alarms & do meal preps so I eat during the day. Because otherwise I’ll binge at night. Sometimes my meal preps are like nutritious burritos & high protein waffles with fruit. Other times I’m broke or tired so it’s just a toasted cheese sandwich. I think it’s important to eat nutrition dense food as much as possible… however sometimes you can’t for whatever reason and that’s FINE. It’s better to listen to your hunger cues and eat something than restrict. For a plethora of reasons that you covered succinctly.

The Olympics made me want to go back to judo so bad. While weight class sports have their issues, it’s also a sport with very diverse bodies (and female athletes having to fight back against people fat shaming them). I would also like to see the people who think being petite means being delicate see those small women being strong enough to throw others on the tatami.

Okay, this is probably going to be a longer comment, but bear with me. At the end of last year, I found out that my husband got a job abroad and we're going to be moving halfway across Europe to a country whose language we don't speak and I'll have a hard time finding work there. We had to move furniture, personal belongings, cars, arrange insurance, banks, doctors, phone numbers, etc. In short, it was crazy. I never eat much from stress, but from December to February it was extreme. Two months of stress and almost no food caused me to stop menstruating (which made me even more stressed because we're not planning a baby lol), my hair started falling out, my nails were breaking, I couldn't sleep and I was always tired and exhausted. Two months was enough for this!! I don't know if I'm living so much ''on the edge'' (I've been skinny since I was a kid, 170cm and 54kg now) that two months of malnutrition and stress was enough, but I've been keeping a close eye on it ever since.

You know I've never thought about the opportunity of the Olympics to show different but highly performing bodies? I think it's a nice message, which should be emphasized much more. Videos like this (like many of yours actually) should be used as part of a therapy, in fact, if they were in my native language I would use them in the case of patients with eating disorders. Speaking of eating disorders, I don't know about America, but here in Italy after covid I'm seeing an explosion of cases and social media is certainly making the situation worse. As an elderly person 😆, I don't use Tik Tik, so I had no idea of the level of toxicity that goes around on this topic. Really, we're going to need more people like you.

One more shining example of how people on the internet have forgotten what nuance is and love to be pedantic. Also- I cannot stand it when people use language like "this is coming from a place of love" or trying to identify as being the "same" as you because of whatever educaiton/certification/life circumstance they think you have in common. You're still being critical no matter how soft your bullshit prose makes it sound. I heard something recently that has really stuck with me- unsolicited advice is a criticism. Keep doing what you're doing. You are one of the few fitness people I follow for good reason and you seem like such a great person.

10:12 100% fed is always better than not fed and it’s actually very harmful for someone to be holding anyone to some absurd standard that no one can hit when it comes to nutrition. We all try our best, and best shouldn’t be perfect. Sometimes you want pizza or ice cream or a beer or a bag of baby carrots and hummus. And for a long time viewer of yours, who should be aware of your history with disordered eating, it seems dangerous and irresponsible to chastise you in that way for not obsessively (disorderedly) reading ingredient lists to try to talk yourself out of an impulsive food choice. And as a nutrition coach, I sure hope they don’t speak to their clients like that.
