For me, this album was the one that made me fall in love with Garbage. I still remember the smell of the lyrics book, the first time I pushed play and Shut your mouth began swallowing me into these dark pop-rock lands. Amazing album and amazing times.

I used to listen to 2.0 a lot back in the days, and never thought about listening to other albums, until last week, when i stumbled upon this one. Twenty years later... I'm amazed and a bit confused to learn about this gem only today.

I didn't get this album when it first came out... I think like most folks, we were waiting for Garbage 3.0... But, this was a different experience... Different textures... Different taste. Now I can listen to it differently and I really appreciate it. Are you good people? Bad people? Guess it doesn't matter people.

That's cool! Some people would have just written it off there & then, but you gave it a 2nd chance,& I like that! ;) It's a completely different kind of album compared with the 1st 2, but it works perfectly!I got it as soon as I could when it came out!Was surprised by how many of the songs I was relating to at that time in my life!Saying that, they still have lots of meaning to me now for different reasons now too.Anyway, just wanted to say,I liked your comment. It was honest and cool.I appreciate what you are saying. So are you still a BIG fan of Garbage?I hope so!lol. They still deserve their amazing fan's now! There recent work is awesome too!sorry for the length of this!lllol :))Take care honey!

That's been my view on this. I got it when it first came out and while I enjoyed all 3, I always felt this had a different vibe from their other two. But like you, I think the experience here was quite unique. I haven't heard anything passed this - wasn't aware until recently they had a few others. Garbage, Offspring, and Babylon Zoo were amongst my favorite groups during that time, and they still are to this day.

This is low-key one of their best. Revisiting now, & I can proudly admit that I love it more than some of the other records. A solid departure.

The great thing about Garbage -- the thing that nobody wants to mention -- is that they are veterans, from frontwoman Shirley Manson to the three studio pros who play the instruments. They slogged through the trenches of alt-rock in the '80s, whether it was in the U.S. or the U.K., and they came together at the precise moment in the '90s when they could fashion modern-sounding music with a keen eye to the present and modern. They consciously picked up elements from shoegazing, trip-hop, and indie rock -- anything sonically interesting in the underground, crafting them together with skill and a keen commercial eye. On their third record, Beautiful Garbage, that's more evident than ever, from how they approximate contemporary R&B with the sultry "Androgyny," or the Minneapolis new wave bubblegum funk of "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)," or the bluesy PJ Harvey strut of "Silence Is Golden." It's all the more evident because this has a shiny, sugary, unabashedly pop coating, an element that Garbage clearly revel in, as well as should the listener. This is every bit as enticingly postmodern as their other albums, and it sounds distinctly Garbage -- there are elements of My Bloody Valentine crashing up against Tricky, post-Madchester dance, jangle pop, goth stance, and classic pop -- but they seem less like magpies, more themselves, which means Beautiful Garbage is a more consistent record. It's unlikely to storm the charts like their first two records, especially since there aren't standout singles like on the earlier albums, but overall the record works better, perhaps their best album.

There's alot of great songs here, but it bombed for 3 reasons - 1 the sound jarred with previous releases, which put people off, although it's gained more respect since; 2 it was basically unpromoted; and 3 it doesn't quite flow. Admittedly that's hard compared to the effortlessness glide version 2.0 does track to track, but it still required some thought. But still, I respect the experimental sounds, which spawned some pretty cool songs, including the b sides!
