    As a person with a disability, epilepsy, I have had a taste in my younger years of discrimination in which when I went in for a job and was hired by the store manager I told her that I had epilepsy and she was fine with it. but when she told her boss the, District Manager, he chewed her out. I know this because I was close by at the time and after they were done arguing I asked and she told me what was what. During the time that the manager who hired me was there I was able to have a 25 hour work week but once the district manager was able to get rid of her, and he was the only one in charge, my hours fell to just 3 hours a week, immediately, all because he knew I had epilepsy and didn't want a employee like me working for him.

    the rents are not raising because of immigrants when you are coming to a different country to work, pay your taxes, your bills which is what at least 99% of immigrants do you are moving the economy, you are suppling your labour force which is needed in a lot of situations so basically you are helping them economically (not to mention about the money that you bring from your previous country to spend in the new one which is like an injection of money in the economy that came from other country) but it’s not your fault that the supply of houses especially to rent are so low if they have more people in the economy they have more capital to build more houses to sell and to rent they just need to match the demand.

      There are too many people on welfare on Ireland and they also get HAP (Housing payment), this is the major reason plus a huge amount of immigrants arriving, these are facts. We also have a very self serving city council who restricts planning permission for new builds

      @@looneyirish007 It actually doesn’t as you would be buying other problems it’s like the 2008 economic crash it reduced a lot rents and house prices but obviously it was more negative than positive because what happened was that demand was contracted and that made the prices decrease, with immigration is similar thing you are buying other problem on which exists solutions that don’t bring new problems, from pensions, to work supply, economic growth activity would all be impacted in a negative way if Immigration decreases, it’s definitely a problem of supply and housing policy, you can take example of Austria one of the countries with the highest rate of immigration but also the biggest success in housing policy with much better prices and supply. It’s about having enough investment on housing to match the demand, with more immigration and more economic activity what is expected is that those investments should be increased and if only 21% of the rise was due to immigration that shows how the problem is much more related to housing policy.

    Hi Ana, I lived in Ireland and I experienced racism too. Don't feel bad, wtf Irish people leave ireland ALL THE TIME.
    I like this video however I really don't like your opinion which you expressed in your other video where you said that people who get social welfare are 'lazy'. Sure, some are lazy. But don't you think that some people are not able to find a job? For example, some people don't have many skills or intelligence and it's difficult for them. Some people live in a small town and don't have many opportunities for employment. Some people are single mothers, who are finding it hard to cope. Some people are depressed. I really think that was insensitive and also if you look at data, countries who have stable welfare systems have happier people eg. (Scandinavian countries, Australia and New Zealand)

    • @AMEditionYT
      @AMEditionYT  3 года назад +5

      Hi Mina! Thanks for your comment. I feel like we have something in common. I usually don't reply to comments about lazy people but looks like I did not express well what I meant.
      Yes, I totally agree with what you said. There are people who need help and this is amazing that the government helps them.
      I don't know if you live in Ireland, but if you do, you probably saw those "certain" people who are on welfare (not those who really need help). They do not work just because they understand that it's no point in working and getting the same money when they can just stay at home and get money. They usually have plenty of free time and in this time they still something and sell drugs (I know lots of people who got their phones stoles, car parts stoles, got their cars burned). I am afraid of those people and I was talking about them.
      Many Irish people have exactly the same opinion as me. I don't want to give money to someone and feel afraid and not secure.
      Not sure if I explained it well this time. Maybe I am not sensitive, but I say this because I want to feel secure on my own money.

    • @looneyirish007

      they are building. Takes time for planning, land, red tape, only so many builders to build on an island of 4.9 million people vs mainland Europe and the amount of builders at their disposal? use your head. Ireland built 22,000 new homes and Netherlands built 71,000 new homes in 2019. The Netherlands also has 18 million people giving a larger amount of skilled workers at its disposal. Immigration in Ireland nearly doubled in one year from 49,000 to 90,000. That's a huge increase in 12 months on any small island.

    • @serc7553

      @@looneyirish007 I think the problem in netherlands is not lack of builders, its lack of space.
      If we had so much empty/rural land as in Ireland, we would be building 5x more homes. You can fly in builders from other parts of euope, you can't fly in land lol.
      I think Ireland or dublin have been slacking, this international migration has been happening for decades. I dont get how Dublin can get it wrong so badly. Dublin is one of the most expensive citie to rent an appartment.

      @looneyirish007 3 года назад

      @@serc7553 What if the builders dont want to be flown in? Its up to the farmers if they want to sell their land. Migration has been happening, and that's great. ive no problem with that. I just dont know how you can say its 100s of thousand of homes being built in NL when its clearly on 78,000, Based on the population, its the same as Ireland. you have 3 times more population and building just over 3 times more housing. Immigration is fine, but it doubled in one year to 90,000. That puts a strain on the situation, irregardless of what way you look at it.
      Anyway, with covid, so many people moved back to their country's, like in the 2009 recession and rents are now dropping, the sad part of that is that ive lost a lot of friends ive know for years because they moved back home.also, that air bnb had over 5000 homes taken from the rental market. During the recession, building houses stopped as there was over supply And unlike the NL, Ireland doesn't really do high rise accommodation. That stems back from the catholic church and buildings couldn't be higher than churches.

    I love the message of your video, but you shouold be clear about the ground of discrimination informing differences in pay, for example: If the person of 50 gets more pay than the person of twenty, it might be because of length of service, as well as greater experience. Experience means greater exposure to various variants of problems encountered in a job sphere, therefore a greater frame of reference against which to problem-solve than someone with less experience. If a company awards more pay purely because someone is older, that would be wrong e.g. a 20-year old and a 50-year old apply for the same job, with the same qualifications and experience and the company pays the one more simply and only because of the age difference. That is clearly wrong. Beware of ageism - another iniquitous form of discrimination which you will no doubt experience yourself in the future. When you see an older person always consider the fact that before you know it, you will be that person yourself. Ageism is the one form of discrimination every human being will face in time. One day, you will be the grandmother you are currently criticising ...

    I agree. As a family we hope we are not this way. We experienced this ourselves when living in England. Many Irish do, so I find it hard to understand the Irish that behave this way. I've seen anti Polish graffiti. What I feel is every nation is full of individuals. If it's wrong to judge on nationality or skin colour, or within nations learning difficulties, physical appearance, etc. I think this is something that parents can pass on. I'm proud to say, my friend at 3 years was Indian. My daughter Maire is currently staying with someone from Croatia and someone from Italy. One of my son's lived in Belgium and learned French well. Something that really upsets me is parents sending children to Gaelscoil to avoid foreign children. Mine were sent to a Gaelscoil so they would be strong in their own culture. That is I believe some of the problem in Ireland. We had our language robbed. I know it's nice for you that we speak English and very little Gaeilge, but that is sad. I spoke with Polish friends recently. They agreed, as there was attempts to wipe Polish out also. The history of Ireland affects us so much. Being oppressed for 400 years. First natural resources robbed, then trying to get rid of our culture. There is suspicions and doubt. We need healing as a nation.

      The problem is the levels of migration into Ireland were this multiculturalism is relatively new, we've seen How's its worked out in other countries, to put it another way to you we're a small island of 5 million people, 17pc of which is already foreign born, under the EU we've opened our borders to over 450 million, that's without migration from outside the EU, our culture and identity needs to be protected, we spent way to long fighting to achieve it.

      @materdeimusicd.buckley2974 3 года назад +1

      @@muskrat477 sorry, maybe I didn't make myself clear. We are an Irish family. I very much do what I can for Irish culture. I feel all of us Irish are suffering from 400 years of oppression. We had to emigrate ourselves. There are descendants of Irish in every corner of the world. Not our fault. I play Irish music. So do my children. We try to speak Gaeilge in the home when we can. Unfortunately my husband's Gaeilge isn't strong but he tries. He lived in England for his childhood as his parents had to go there for work. I was also born in England, for the same reason. Then in the 80s, high unemployment again so as a new married couple we had to emigrate to England. Two of our children born there. I experienced racism against Irish at work in England. The Birmingham 6 were being released at that time. I still remember seeing one of the Guilford 4 at an Irish music festival. I was playing. It still makes me cry. A bomb went off in Victoria station the day we were going on honeymoon. See were treated with suspicion at the London airport which we had traveled to by driving from Ireland and ferry to London, so we hadn't heard the news. It was snowing. It was not a pleasant experience. I was playing uilleann pipes at the time and they went everywhere with me. I had to play them to prove they were an instrument, not a bomb. ( We found that part funny). It didn't help looking back that the case for my pipes looked like a rifle case. I agree with you on the point that we are now adapting to immigration however. It's a new experience for the Irish. That's what we always did to other countries. Now our country is popular. We probably have the Celtic tiger to thank for that. As I said healing as a nation is what we need. I feel we need a more healthy attitude to our own culture. We need to find a pride in being Irish. Not just support of sports etc. Also the ongoing border doesn't help. Brexit is a mess and a constant reminder of our horrible history. I hope this helps visitors here to understand a little more. Having said that, because of the experience described and others while I was in England, I don't like to see Irish treat immigrants badly. This young woman makes a point. Then again, if you look at figures, apparently racism in Ireland is way below the British and many other European countries. This is great. And probably another reason why Eastern Europe likes coming here rather than elsewhere. This is something to be proud of as a nation.
      However she addressed another very distressing point. The attitude towards people with learning disabilities, or who are different. I think this is new. These people are very important for society. If society rejects the weak and vulnerable we end up with something very unpleasant. I know families with children with autism, downsyndrome, and lesser learning difficulties like dyslexia and dyspraxia. All do suffer regularly from lack of compassion from some. Thankfully there are many Irish still who do show love. We probably have the best service for these people because of the front line working. However there is this ugly attitude in others. Everyone of us is different. Thanks for your reply on this difficult subject. Thanks for reading my script. It's good to get this out there. Lockdown isn't easy for any of us.
      Finally, Brexit certainly is not helping. If you read this and you are English, it's not that I hate English people. After all, that would make me racist too. It's just the level of ignorance shown by the way your country voted to cause the new border problem is upsetting. Also the 400 years of oppression we endured has affected us deeply. To be banned from speaking our own language, and the penal laws, and the early persecution. Cromwells treatment of our nation, yet in your country you still honour this man by naming streets after him etc. I was shocked when teaching in a secondary school to discover that a Geography and history teacher in the school didn't know that there was a separate Irish Republic. They thought that we were still in Britain.I was asked about bombs and how did I live with them. The irony was the IRA set a bomb off in Tadcaster near where I worked. I came closer to a bomb in England then I ever did here. At that stage, many of the staff stopped talking to me. I was Irish so ...... In the end I drew a map in frustration explained that in actual fact, the people who set the bomb were British and therefore part of they're country, not mine. I think ignorance causes more problems than anything. Thanks for reading.

    There are always malcontents who will find something to fret and complain about pertaining to society. For individuals who ad unnecessary stress to their respective lives because of all the negative dynamics you spoke about, it's more unfortunate for them than those with whom they're intolerant of. There are enough things in one's life that seem to come along that can get on one's nerves that we have no, or very little control over. So why create something that is totally unnecessary, such as getting up tight because someone sits close to you at a cafe' who has darker skin, and let it make you uncomfortable and ruin your coffee and sweet role. It's complete nonsense! All of those societal stigmas are such social stupidity. As in Northern Ireland, the negative factors of differences over two Cristian religions, is just so ridiculous it's almost beyond a logical and theological understanding.
