The Latino Engineer is an awesome worker! We can tell that he's very proud of his home, and wants it to look it's best. You two work so well together, (that we see, lol). You are SO lucky to have found each other!
Because of your video I just did this our home. We are renters and the carpet was nasty and old. Our landlord is wonderful and lets us do whatever we want here and even she is in love with the results. Thank you for sharing. I learned so much and your tutorial saved me a lot of mistakes. I wouldn’t have sanded them before the last poly coat bc I wouldn’t have known to do so.
For ALL thinking this sanding is wrong, this is EXACTLY what they do to high-end coustom cabinets. The position in the cabinet factories is called 2nd finish sander, and Yami is correct, it absolutely has to be done for the perfect finish. Thank you for the detail on the appliances, THIS is what I was wondering about for mine.
I really appreciate how you show the trials as well! I've seen so many videos showing do it this way, and I think maybe do it differently, and that sometimes works better , sometimes not.. and it's nice to see your methods tried out in advance!
Yami thanks for the detailed tutorial. I’m glad you told of the struggles because everyone needs to know those things. The Latino Engineer is an amazing guy. You save so much money doing these projects yourselves. Your floors look so beautiful❤️
Bravo Hubby, that took Real Commitiment! I'm sure your back was killing you by the time you were done. When I was younger, we did a project with 2x6 an 2x8. Tongue and Grooved, sanded, stained and varied the sizes of the boards. It came out Beautiful...but man...it was a lot of work.
Thank you! Hubby and I are watching all of these too so in the upstairs of our home. Obviously a little easier considering no fridge and stove. But loving this! THANK YOU!
Oh man... this bring back memories and I was laughing about the "too much stain" We made that same mistake. They turned out SO BEAUTIFUL! I'm so proud of you both.
Thank gosh, I’m only doing my bathroom which is a very big bathroom but a lot smaller than your area not a lot, but it doesn’t look intimidating as much
Thanks for the information. I am about to pull up age old carpet off my stairwell and I am sure there is builder-grade plywood under there. I don’t want to put carpet back so I am exploring my options.
Nice job. If was to do a job like that i would just rough sand very little sanding just enough to clean the plywood. Then i would get a test piece and stain it. I think little to no sanding would enable the stain to penetrate the wood better vs sanding it with 220 grit.
These look fantastic and I want to try this at my home. I noticed some gaps in between the wood. How do you protect from cribs, water, etc from getting in between those gaps? Thanks.
Perhaps mixing (stain and mineral spirits) together and test a scrap piece of wood and see if you like how the finished product looks. Just a suggestion....done it for years.
We purchased it off of Amazon. Here is the link. Please note also that since this video was created cabinet grade plywood pricing has nearly doubled. amzn.to/2RE1BgO
Do you have a cost breakdown? I'm thinking the final cost of all that stain, cabinet plywood and time would even out with high end engineered hardwood flooring
Re : fridge and stove... If you are in the same situation as these folks... Consider moving the fridge out of the room temporarily.. It plugs into any outlet. And consider using a simple hotplate.. You can get them for 24$or less... And move the stove out temporarily... However if you need an oven during this process... Your stove will NOT plug in anywhere.... So you could use the hotplate instead of oven.. Or use a 6 slice countertop oven... Or cook ahead of time... And just reheat in microwave.. It's just a 3 to 5 day process... So plan ahead.. Or use neighbours oven if needed... But you can move your appliances out of the room until floors are done
You and your husband are a totally cute couple. My husband and I work together all the time too. I come up with ideas and he makes them happen. Good job on the floors.
Thank you. This was actually much cheaper back when we did this a couple of years ago. I’m not sure if it would be as cost effective right now. I believe we got the wood for less than half of what it is now if I remember correctly.
Wow that’s pretty how much did it cost for a room I know you had did all the rooms but was it cheaper than the a lot of flooring and how offen is it your going to have to redo it
I’m looking into redoing my bedroom floor and was looking for cheap alternatives other than tile and vinyl flooring. This looks to be a good option. However, I do have a question about the gaps on the wood. In some areas I noticed that it seemed to be a bit more noticeable than in other parts, maybe that has something to do with the way the wood lays? Is there a way to fix that? It’s not bad, I just worry that something will get caught in the groove and it would be difficult to clean up
We poured poly in those areas to try and prevent, but on occasion small stuff would get caught and I would just vacuum it up. This plywood flooring solution was best for us at the time due to the fact that wood prices were much cheaper back then. Everyone who came over loved our floors and they looked great even when we sold the house. There are other more cost effective and time efficient things we can choose from now. Hope that helps!
@@TheLatinaNextDoor I've just discovered you! So fun to watch. Thank you for doing these videos. You mentioned that there are now more cost effective and time efficient choices now. What would you choose today if you wanted the same look?
Question ok I live in a house that's 130 years old. Has been in my family for 90 years. We are trying to pick options for flooring. We do have kids and pets but vinyl plank looks good but it's very expensive to install and we have to replace the old subfloor and old plywood. I want flooring that lasts, durable but looking for more affordable options. Could we do something like this or, what would you recommend? Any advice would help, thank you 😊
To be quite honest with the current market inflation this wouldn’t be worth it (this video is a couple years old). Honestly vinyl plank flooring will come cheaper than this and while labor can add up the labor for this was extensive. We saved by doing it ourselves but for the amount of work we did if you hired out the labor would be a lot as well.
The floors look great, was researching this type of alternate flooring for our house. Curious, how has it stood up for the last year? Thank you for sharing the process and the little hiccups to watch out for. Also, the flooring for under the fridge was ingenious.
Yami the floors are gorgeous you are blessed to have the best husband he should be nominated for some award most men would not put that much effort or work,
You’re just supposed to push the applicator, not push-pull like a mop. And when using the applicator to apply the stain, you dip it in the stain in a paint pan and then wipe off the excess. That’s why you were having unfavorable results with that tool. But the floors look great, good job!

my back and knees hurt just watching the Latino Engineer do his thing. Great tutorial with a beautiful finished product.
LOL! I know right! It was painful. So glad he’s done with it.
I sent your video to my husband. I've been wanting to do this, and the way you explained and your finish should give us both the confidence. Thank you
Wow, amazing job! The Latino Engineer is a superstar for sanding all of those floors by hand!

I think its a neat idea. Only thing I would want additionally is to seal all gaps between planks. Not sure what you would use for that
Great ideas and great work.😁🎇
Give Latino Engineer a life time body massage gift card. Beautiful job!
LOL! I’m sure he would be happy with that 🤣💕
Could you sand and stain the boards before you put them down ?
Hi! Where did you find an orbital sander with a tall standing handle?

It should still be a lot cheaper. A 4x8 sheet of plywood at $30 is less than a $1 per square foot.
Not even close. I've done it
The floors look beautiful!!! Now can you please start the stairs... lol
Absolutely stunning! I would venture a guess that this is what the Latino Engineer does full time.🤔💞
He does not actually. He has a day job as well. 😊
@@TheLatinaNextDoor He sure has the knowledge & the tools. How fortunate for both if you to be so talented. You & him.💞

Did you guys need to use wood filler to cover the nail holes?
Question. Water cannot go below the planks?? I mean can i wash this floor with water?

The floors are still great and holding up well. Of course this was done a little while ago so prices have since increased significantly on wood. 😕
Beautiful😍
What about prepping, staining, poly n sanding before you lay the boards?!
Whoa speed racer. You're too advanced for this channel. 😂😂😂. I like your style work smarter not harder.
My 🎩 off to Latinoengineer you did a great job 👍👍
I got questions on underlayment
How many sheets did you have to get
How do u clean the fllors
That is incredibly impressive. How does the price compare to hardwood floors?
It’s definitely cheaper. We will break that down in the last video. We get that question a lot. 😁
Hard work, but well worth it!♡☑️♡
I'd love to know cost difference. I know sanding disc's are costly and materials.
