Danish F-16 Controlled Ejection

- On 27 October 2015, a Danish F-16 pilot ejected from his aircraft over the North Sea.
The plane could not land safely due to a broken landing gear, and the safest way out was via the ejection seat.
The pilot made it through the violent trip with no permanent injuries, and here he tells his story.

Danish F-16 Controlled Ejection
--------------------------------------------------
I was initially wondering how in the world could this account of a controlled ejection could be an hour long. With this pilot's superb descriptive ability, I was put there in the seat. Even without the video. Bravo sir. For those that disliked the video, I respectfully ask ; "when did you lose your imagination?" Yes it was long for a you tube video but it was like a very detailed and very interesting short story book. Just a 10 minute video on an aviation mishap wouldn't have put me in the seat or his mindset throughout the ordeal. Great video, good luck and God bless!
it's an ejection video...calm your mones...
needs english subtitles for us ignorants.
@@g__wizz There is a world besides Anglo-Saxons and that is very good and appropriate!
@@bernhardecklin7005 still playing our games with our stuff.. hence the military and the f16.
@@g__wizz Has English subtitles for you ignorants. You just have to turn them on.
I really like how he's aware he hasn't finished processing it yet, and continues to fly as a part of that process. Great interview.
Great report from a human being (not a Rambo nor a superhero) in an abnormal situation. Kudos to the Danish military for putting this on YT.
It's amazing you could do an hour long story telling and I'm telling you I wasn't bored even for 1 second. This was so detailed in every aspect you fueled your story beautifully. I think there is no aspect of your story you didn't cover : the technical aspects, the SOP's, the human feelings, both professionnal and personnal, your doubts and how you dealt with them. I think you could be a good writer for Hollywood stuff. Well done.
Military style reporting, plus Lockheed Martin and Martin Baker would've gone over him with a fine tooth comb. His genius is that he's able to frame it in a nonchalant, friendly, "let's talk this over a beer" manner.
*Turns out f-16 doesn't use Martin Baker but United Technologies' ACES 11.
The pilot has excellent storytelling skills. He could probably do an hour long narrative of a day of the city trash collection truck crew and it would be just as interesting and captivating.

That moment at the Lockheed factory having a nice relaxing day and then there is your boss saying: bob, the danish military needs your help
you mean lockeed execs get a BONER cause they can sell them another air plane?
@@g__wizz Yeah, they probably called Sales dpt before Engineering...
yeah, that must've been harrowing ... they should do a documentary on that

Probably just what they call a tuesday at the Lockheed factory.
As a former US Air Force Veteran I'm happy to see this Danish Airman & Pilot safe and able to go back to his family and his fellow Airman in the Danish Air Force..I salute you my friend !
PJ Neslo were you a P.J. or is that your screename
Ehem.. _Royal_ Danish Air Force :P
As an ordinary bloke I'm happy to see this Royal Danish Airman & Pilot safe and able to go back to his family and his fellow Airman in the Danish Air Force..I salute you my friend !
As a random dickhead I was just watching video of fighter jets crash. Don't really care about the guy in it but I guess, yaaay.
How do you know someone is ex US armed forces?
They'll tell you ;)
Just over an hour long but because of this gentleman's excellent narrative it doesn't feel like an hour. Glad everything went well for you sir.
This guy is a fantastic storyteller, i bet he has told his tale many times now so he probably had some practise.
well, he's a fighter pilot... if there's anything fighter pilots know how to do , it's telling fighter pilot stories.
I think it's part of the basic training , must able to tell a story or they flunk ya
An extremely valuable and honest account of all possible aspects of this emergency and resultant ejection. Never tried it myself, but I know plenty who have and tragically some that never made it out. I've had my hand on the handle on 2 occasions, and looked down at an 'unfriendly' desert on another. Saying to myself, 'oh no, not today', after an engine mech. fail, before the procedures 'kick-in' and you start to work the problem and successfully recover to somewhere you had no intention of landing at. Big respect to you!!!
Big respect to you too, Iain. You did the right thing and you are still with us! Job well done - I congratulate you from Florida.
Random question... Do F-16s have 2 people in them, or just 1 ?
(i know nothing about types of aircraft obviously 😉 )
Normally there is only one seat on a f 16. But there is also F16 with two seats. They are used for example during training so there may be an instructor on board

LOL
Excellent, this is like a very complete debrief. He explains the reasoning behind every decision and every step of every procedure, which even a trained person might gloss over. Thank you for sharing the video.
The Beer part is so Danish. You cannot go to an oral exam without drinking beer afterwards. Or, you cannot eject an airplane without drinking beer afterwards.
Verbal exam*;)
@@vicnihgin7171wrong, in denmark you'd say Oral Exam
Fantastisk beretning. Mvh.
Amazing story, sounds like this pilot was trained very well and knew exactly what to do in this situation. Kudos to everyone involved.
Most excellent, this chap speaks beautifully.
great video, amazing story! We Appreciate the English subs - Greetings from America.
Although did spell flight incorrectly at 1:03:20 😁
37:37 LOL, so much for the image of the fearless pilot. Full points for honesty though.
Reminds me of a story I once heard. An experimental plane had crash landed, pilot got out just fine. When he was interviewed by a newspaper he tried to play it cool and said: "The worst part of the landing was that when I got out, the firefighting foam soaked my trousers." So the headline became: "Test pilot wets his pants"...
Hvad en mand ikke vil gøre for en øl :D
Man kan godt fornemme at øllen havde en vigtig rolle
Ahahaha

Few years too late but nevermind, All 60+ minutes were great to hear/read with ENG subtitles which it wouldn't be the same without. So thank you for the amazing story.
I am so happy that it turned out as well as it did, The pilot is amazing and humanity benefits every day he is alive, I also want to give credit to those at Lockheed for the amazing plane they have made, Possibly the best all-round jet of all time (including costs, versatility, upgradability, Everything!).

The very best clip ive ever seen about this topic, and frankly pilots of jets in general.
Thankyou.
Great story! Tks for sharing.
Firstly to you sir 👍bloody good show . For the 32 people who gave a thumbs down " get a life "
J feel like j've just finished a book ! Exellent !
Fantastic story. This is what the internet is all about. I listened with complete attention to this fascinating story. Gre a t to listen to the full, raw story told by the guy who was there for one hour. Rather than a short clip in a documentary with music and dumb commentary
Remarkable account from a very clear thinking young man. It was great to hear his wingman and so many others sticking with him....thanks for sharing your story and thoughts and so glad you survived...we are very proud of what you do on a daily basis...take care
So the one thing to take away from this is that the best antidote for ejecting from a F-16 is..........beer. 🍺🍻
He's Danish. Danes love a good beer...
Carlsberg. Probably the best post-ejection lager in the world.
6yjjk Now someone pay Mads Mikkelsen to say that!
@@6yjjk negative turborg is the way to go i would eject for one of those
Rigtigt flot og spændende fortalt, meget medrivende. Ros til piloten!
Considering all of your options is great if you have a stable aircraft, and letting go of a lost cause is the smart thing to do.
great story great courage with fear as well.great you are back flying, respect pilot, from bill in ireland
Stor respekt.
Didn't expect to sit here for an hour listening to a foreigner yap on about a parachute ride
But i did. Way more complex than expected
Define Foreigner, he might be the local and you might be the foreigner
You are a foreigner.
"foreigner" right.
Fantastic. It must be a great experience for his fellow pilots to see someone survive the violence of an ejection without injury.
Wat an out standing young man. I hope he's on our side in the future.
Hmm,ask Mr. T.
Very interesting, honest and informative video. There are a lot of excellent learning points and I'll be sharpening up my procedures regularly from now on, even though I don't have a bang seat in the Cessna 152.
Brilliant story telling. Thank you.
The Hollywood version would have him go inverted and the wing man sawing off the protrusion with the cannon while also inverted of course...HAHA Glad he made it and good to go fly again
His dinghy got a puncture, while shakes circling around...... oh and girl friend waiting at the airfield and they hug and kiss.
Rigtig god video. Godt at piloten klarede sig. Imponerende at I bringer hele historien. Hils og sig god bedring! :-)
Very engrossing story ! Nice NOT to be randomly interrupted by pointless and jarring ads !
Thanks for the labelling on the screen, cause at first i was wondering what was what.
A lucky boy.....but also such a professional pilot & he made it look like just a walk in the park. So glad he made it.
Fremragende historiefortælling!
That's a job well done, sir. Hälsningar från Skåne :)
Great video! It was so interesting to watch and got me locked in my seat!

Very well shared and a thumbs up to the training and professional conduct by these flying Vikings. Lots to learn for civilian use as well here in regards to benefits of training and development of staff and practice, practice and practice.

Fantastisk video
Yes man! Vilket fin historia!
Best decision....driver already stated he had some loss of hydraulics and maneuvering to the field risks discovering other critical control issues. Altitude is life! So is attitude (Aviation and mental). It’s only an airplane.
I was born in Denmark. I love the country. Good on you. Happy to hear everything went well. Awesome job

Amazing video
Cool Pilot :) Godt gået !
Did not expect to spend an hour watching this. I could feel the tension myself... at least some of it 😅 wondering what happened to the plane? Was it recovered? For how much longer was it in the air?
The plane was recovered the following Sunday(The plane crashed on a Tuesday).
Good informative video.
Although this guy was sitting still telling his story, his hair looked like it was going Mach 3.
set den 2 gange mega fed video
fantastisk og en såændene historie :)
Pure gold.
First of all amazing story telling on his side
I love how he explained every little step that happened when he pulled the handle, does anyone know how long it takes from pulling the handle to being outside the aircraft?
He say a couble seconds.. and combined with the fotage, thats about right.. happens pretty fast..
Suppper fed historie, kunne slet ik mærke brugt 1 time på denne video 👍🏻
No Ejection-Seats were harmed in the making of this Video.
Repetition is the mother of skill
Excellent.. it would be interesting to know how that arm detached?
Very fascinating indeed. Thank you for posting this. What was the RDAF E-number of this F-16, please.
E-070 (83-1070)
Apologies for my slightly delayed response.
@@Tango-17 Thank you very much for your response. Its a captivating video and I am happy that the pilot walked away from the controlled ejection.
This is one cool cat! Very professional!
The British made MARTIN BAKER ejection system zero/zero has saved pilots all around the world & is still the most popular ejection seat. It’s in pretty much all of the western NATO jets. Everyone who ejected using this automatically joins the matin baker club & get a tie & pin to wear with a certificate. Glad everything worked out well. Wonderful video also, it puts you right in the grip of the situation.
M/B seats are in the F/A-18 among others, but the F-16, F-15, and A-10 all utilize the ACES II

Glad your made it back safe sir
Well done.
What a champ, I'm glad he is ok!
Funny thing to see the engineers perspective as well, they oddly forgot the pilot in the plane, not from ill will, just from an engineering perspective, yep landing on one wheel is possible...
Take care now!!
You shoulda said “I’m on a sleigh ride straight to hell” lol....they woulda changed your call sign to “Bad Ass”
Very good explanation.
And very old video, but a question to anyone that feel they have the abilty to answer.
Would you not be able to accelerate the plane and at some speed see it the bar "rips" off?
Meget interessant video må man sige.
