Stunning footage, mate. You live in an incredible place. That type of fishing would have been right around the upper North Island until population pressure put paid to it. The big snap chasing the lure shows what a predator they are. Just one note: with the big snap, it's actually worse for the fish to pull it backwards and forwards, particularly if there is silt in the water like that. I saw an explanation by a marine scientist who said the fish's gills are not designed to have water going through them 'backwards'. Water going backwards through the gills doesn't help the fish breathe, and the silt will actually clog their gills. Better to let the fish sit still if you can't have water flowing through from the front, maybe wade out a bit deeper. The same goes for release beside the boat. Anyway, not wanting to criticise, just hopefully helping - as you clearly are a responsible fisho in terms of releasing for another day. Cheers.
