PBS News Weekly: Pro-Palestinian campus protests grow | May 3, 2024

Pro-Palestinian protests swept across college campuses this week leading to a tense standoff between schools and student activists over ties to Israel and the war. The protests grew as negotiators met in Cairo in an effort to cement a cease fire deal. The new proposed deal would pause the war in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages. Hamas is seeking a permanent ceasefire, yet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that the group must be fully destroyed before Israel can agree to any deal. Meanwhile the United Nations said it estimates it will take until 2040 to rebuild all the homes in Gaza destroyed by the war so far.
