It's a good thing we have our childrens immediately traumatized by loud sudden scary fire alarm sirens and drills. You just can never tell when a school is going to catch fire all at once, why back in my day you could hardly go a week without hearing about how many schools burned down from fires, sometimes even just looking at them wrong would cause a fire. In my school there aren't loud fire alarms. If there is a fire than an alarm os sent to the teachers and not the students. As the alarm is sent to the teachers, the speaker in our classroom rings and a teacher starts taking and tells everyone to evacuate. It's better this way so nobody is panicked

If you knew when drills would be, that’s not as effective because people would know it’s not real, and can lead to people tuning out. However, announcing drills ahead of time may be better for someone whose ears are hurt or pierced if the alarm is that loud. Other than that, unannounced drills seem to be better.

But if there was a real fire, you would just probably get out no matter what. Plus, they prefer everyone to remain silent at my school, but I tend to talk softly to other students and the administration doesn't mind. If you're too loud, You could get in trouble for interfering with the drill. Hope that answers your questions.
