I just started my first Darcy Coates novel, The Whispering Dead. I ordered this and The Ravenous Dead and they came yesterday. Like you, I cannot seem to put it down. She is going to be on my favorite authors list. Thanks for sharing your opinions on what you have read when this video was done. Have an awesome week.
I'm so glad you're enjoying Darcy Coates! I really adore her writing style. I'm actually currently reading her latest book, From Below and I'm thrilled with it.
Been looking for something new to read in the horror genre and I've been curious about Darcy for a while. I think you've sold me. Probably going to pick up one or two of her books tomorrow. Thank you much!
I just found Darcy Coates this year 2022. I wanted something spooky to read for October and picked up the Haunting of Ashburn House and I loved it! It was just spooky enough without giving me nightmares and I like how it ends happily. Darcy’s prose is so descriptive I have a wonderful picture show running in my head. She is my new favorite author. I am now reading The Haunting of Gillespie House, and then The Whispering Dead, The Folcroft Ghosts, and The House Next Door in my TBR pile. And then we’ll see what’s next.....🤓👻🎃
The Folcroft Ghosts is SO good. One of my top favorites from her. I haven't read Gillespie House or the House Next Door yet, but I did love The Whispering Dead series.
So glad you covered Darcey Coates! I found her a couple of years ago, and after reading a couple of her books I just broke down and bought them all lol! I'm excited to have so many to look forward to, I plan to use them when I get into a reading slump because I know she won't disappoint. They're like my secret weapon lol! Love your look for this video, your nail polish in particular is beautiful. Excellent job!
I love Darcy Coates!!! It's because of her I got into horror as an adult. I had grown up reading R.L. Stine, Bunnicula, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, etc. But never really tried adult horror until I found Darcy Coates. I actually stumbled upon her books on Amazon back when she was a self-published author and she was even kind enough to email me about some questions I had when it came to publishing my own books. I love that they always have a happy ending. Unlike you, I will always have a soft spot for The Haunting of Blackwood House simply because it's the first book of hers I read 😉 you will love her Dark Winter series. It's fantastic!
That's so amazing to hear! So glad you discovered her and she helped reintroduce you to horror! And yes, I will definitely need to read her Dark Winter series.
Love looking forward to your Saturday videos, I haven't read any Darcy Coates books yet but I've sure heard alot of good things about her. Can't wait to read one and get hooked. Your content is amazing, love all your vids. Keep up the good work.
I started reading Darcy Coates after you mentioned her in a video earlier this year. I love her now! & your description of her as “cozy horror” couldn’t be more perfect. Thank you for introducing her work to me!
I recently subscribed to your channel and I'm loving your videos. I've heard of Darcy Coates through my book group but haven't had an opportunity to try her work. I stopped into a local bookstore today and saw The Haunting of Ashburn House in the sci-fi section, lol. I bought it and plan to start it tonight. I'm also an Australian so I really should support her work. This does sound like an entertaining read.
Another amazing video! I see you put a lot of effort into this vid. The Carrow Haunt is without a doubt her best book, only the last chapters aren't my thing. I love Darcy Coates books, but not for every week, they are very similar. Great highlight! A suggestion: Grady Hendrickx and Joe Hill, 2 great authors
Thanks! I actually already have author spotlights on both Joe Hill and Grady Hendrix! (There should be a playlist of all my spotlights on my channel.) And yeah, The Carrow Haunt is awesome. I didn't mind the last few chapters, as I feel that was the best way for Coates to incorporate her cozy, happy endings.
Great to see you're covering Darcy Coates! I discovered her last year, already read three of her books and I'm really enjoying her work. I like the way she handles her ghosts, she gives them personality beyond just being the scary entities and you're right, it's good knowing you're not going to be depressed after finishing her books. By the way, loving the style and colours of your newest thumbnails!
Thank you so much! I really wanted to do some fun, spooky thumbnails for the fall. :D And, yeah, the way Coates creates her ghosts is so fun and unique. Can't wait to read more of her work. :D
I LOVED this video! Thank you so much for highlighting Darcy Coates' work and sharing her background. A few months ago I read my first book by her, House of Shadows, and I simply loved it. One of my favorite reads of the year. It is very different from all the books you covered but I think she made a great job mixing a haunted house with historical elements and romance. Seriously, thanks for such an amazing video! Now I'll go fill my Amazon cart and dream I get all her books 😭
Ohhhh! I'll have to check House of Shadows out! I really like when she branches off from her traditional formula, but overall I just adore everything she puts out. hahaha
I started reading Darcy Coates earlier this year, and I think you describe her very well. As being sort of an RL Stine for adults type, I’d also describe John Saul in that way too. I first read “Dead Lake” by her, and I thought the novella itself was pretty decent and creepy, but I thought the short stories that went along with it were absolutely fantastic and actually had me so creeped out. I’ve also read the Haunting of Blackwood house, and while I did ultimately really like it, I actually totally agree with you about the main character, Mara. Even though I understood why she was the way she was, she still came off as a typical fedora tipping atheist stereotype, lol. And then I’ve also read the first two books in the black winter series, which I also like fairly well. Am glad to hear a positive review of Carrow Hunt from you, I had been thinking about checking that one out but then heard some less than great things about it, but now I’m encouraged to pick it up and try it again. I’m thinking of either reading the Haunting of Ashburn house or the Haunting of Leigh Harker next by her.
The Carrow Haunt and Haunting of Ashburn House are easily my two favorites from her! I didn't love Leigh Harker. It was very experimental for Coates, but I appreciate her writing something so different.
Thank you so much! I really need to read more of her non-haunted house stories soon, but I just love the spooky mansions she creates so much that I keep picking up more. lol
The first scene in The Haunting of Leigh Harker is one of the scariest scenes I've read in a book. Very impressed with her work.
Yea it's definitely spooky!
I’ve not tried Darcy Coates yet but this video definitely makes me want to. Also, I love that she came from self publishing roots!
Me too! I didn't learn that until recently and it's so nice to hear that self-publishing really paid off for her and she never gave up.

I was never interested in Darcy Coates until now! Thanks for this, I needed a more comprehensive video on her books
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy her books. She's such a wonderful writer.
i love the author spotlights! can you do more please

Darcy Coates is such a fun author! I can't recommend The Haunting of Ashburn House enough.
Thank you so much for letting me know about this video 💜. I’m excited to try this author 😊

I just went to BAM and picked up Hunted, and 4 of the black winter books, not sure if that completes the series but I'm diving into hunted first.

I have found her on Goodreads by the end of 2019. She is amazing.
P.S. Your choice of make up and shirt are wonderful. 🖤
Thank you so much! And yeah, Darcy Coates is awesome :D

New to your channel today!
Omg, so excited to find a reviewer who does primarily horror or thriller!
Thank you for watching! :D
Try Hunted by her next! It's really different from her other books I've read but so freaking good)
Oh! Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add that to my list :D
Have you read Hunted by Darcy Coates yet? I just read it and loved it!
I have not, but I've heard great things about it.
