I grew up in NY and I wanted to move to Cali at 23. My parents had a f**kin fit!!!! Lol they even came with me to cali for a week. Rule was if I don't find an apartment I have to leave with them. 2 days before they were supposed to leave I found a place. Ive been in Cali for 5 years now and I'm independent, Strong and happily engaged. My parents agree now best decision I ever made moving away.
i feel that on you not telling them you signed your lease. i didn't tell my parents i was moving to south korea to teach english until 2 months before. they thought i was completely joking, but literally EVERYONE knew before them😅 (i also may or may not have told them that i've had a boyfriend for the past 9 months LOLLL) it was such a hard decision but i know that if they had known sooner, they would have given me WAHALA!!! they're now accepting of the entire thing and see that i'm making money and able to support myself here :)
Oh Fadda, you making me feel like I could try a little somesing somesing with makeup!!! You look so good girl 😍 Also when I was moving out (from Brooklyn, NY to San Jose, CA) I literally told my mom I was going to visit my bestie and then told her the truth when I got there - nice and far away from beating distance, cuz the way my Jamaican mama is set up....
I looked at my parents and said after college, I won't be moving back in. That was all and I haven't looked back since lolol Moving out is really great for growth. Both for you and also for them to finally realize you really are an adult lol Hope you're enjoying adulting ❤️
I turned 24 last month and recently I took a leap of faith and I'm moving out soon to start a new job in another city 😁 living at home has so many perks but like u said u can't really put adulting into practice because you don't need to budget and u get real comfortable. I'm a little nervous to start my new journey but for the most part excited and I have a faith in God most importantly.
Very timely video.... I'm planning to travel back home to tell my folks i wanna settle where i school so they shouldn't expect me back. I know there's going to be drama but I'm prepared for it.
Good for you girl Chizi , my parents would’ve but they would have been thick off if I signed the lease without them knowing. In my parents honestly is the best policy I’m Haitian so parents tends to want their kids to stay with them 4ever
Love you Chizi! I’m so happy for you about taking the bold step, I can’t even imagine what my parents would say if I want to move out😂 You’re one of my inspirations for starting my own channel ❤️
I’m Nigerian, I’m living away from home for college so I don’t officially consider myself moved out bc after college many ppl move right back home. My sister moved out at 25 but that’s bc she found a new job in another state. My parents didn’t protest too too much & my oldest brother moved out for med school and he ain’t coming back lol
Im 18 and I want to leave so bad. My parents are strict Yoruba parents and I feel like there are so many things I haven't been able to learn because I have been so confined to this house. I know I am young but I am very independent and mature for my age, and I feel like I am not able to really express that side of me when I am restricted in so many areas.
I came to America from Africa when I was 20 years, moved out when I was 22 and now I'm 25 going to 26 and I'm married. It has been the best decision I have ever made in my life.By the way I was paying rent and other bills in my cousin's house who received me so it didn't make any difference to me though.I thank God for giving me strength and keeping me healthy through out these years.
Im Haitian and its the same you dont leave until you become a married women. I tried it for some years and learned some great things about life and me, But decided to move back home and I love not paying bills but my parents are cool though lol.

My mom has already planned for me to move out at the age of 25. That’s when she moved out so that’s what she expects to happen to me. I ain’t ready lmao
The most I was able to save for when I lived at home was the down payment on a car. My mom was dating a guy who was a contractor so the paychecks weren't steady (and he had no spine with getting the money owed to him and then payed everyone who did very little before he paid my sibling, who also was living at home but helped him sunup to sundown. He kept pulling the "you have a roof over your head" BS line. This is grueling, hot work as they were installing AC's and venting units, which means crawling under houses and into attics, being covered in fiberglass which irritates your skin horribly. You don't say that to a grown man trying to save up and move out because what that reeks of is entrapment and that's really what it was. He wanted to keep my sibling under his thumb because my brother was his best worker. The rest were his flakey childhood "friends" that were just looking for a handout and he cowardly obliged them, even if they showed up late and did very little). But I digress (as you can tell, I really didn't like that man, lol). My mom stopped working to focus on her nursing degree so that made things even more difficult. Anytime I had something saved up, it was needed for the house. I began to just spend my money on cheaper stuff I wanted if i wasn't going to be able to save for my car and moving out. It would take 5 years to finally scrape together the $1500 to pay for the down payment on the vehicle and my mom knew I was frustrated. Her nursing degree came in clutch though when she finally broke it off with that guy (good riddance! She admits that when she saw that things weren't going to work out, she used the situation to at least get something he couldn't take from her) and we moved to a city, not a poor town, and she had more job offers that paid way more. I do still regret though not having that normal live at home experience to really save up for everything I'd need to move out but that's sometimes how it goes. I'm not owed a place to live after turning 18.
Culturally, it was expected for me to go...I think? Or if I didn’t, I needed to have a plan. It never came up tbh. Anyway, I was gone at 25. All of my siblings were the same. After college, job secured before or shortly after graduation...then deuces. I think staying home to stack and build is very smart, whether you want a house or not, especially with freelance or non-structured jobs.
My mum threatened to call the police on me when I told her I had found a place and was moving out last year 😭😭 I was 26 and she didn’t talk to me for 3 months We’re cool now tho
