It's so fascinating seeing your perspective on Giancarlo and Gus, because when this episode first came out, almost NOBODY in mainstream audiences had heard of him or was familiar with his acting ability. So the reveal of who Gus was, or his capacity to be "bad news" was wayyy more of a surprise. Whereas now, after his mainstream career as charismatic villains really took off, you have a totally different immediate reaction when he first pops up. :)

One of the most famous examples of The Mandela Effect is from Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back!
Most people, including James Earl Jones in an interview, believed the line was, "Luke, I am your father," when in fact it's, "no, I am your father." It's either the multiverse overlapping or folks misremembering.
The other example is whom the effect was named after. People swear that while he was in prison, Nelson Mandela died or was killed and replaced and the man who was released and later elected President, was a clone or some imposter.
Giancarlo Esposito has an extensive career from Trading Places, School Daze and Malcolm X to Maze Runner, Farcry and The Usual Suspects!
Personally, I think School Daze is an important "coming to age" film as Higher Learning, American History X and Boys In The Hood! Should be shown in every juvenile detention facility.

The episode is called “mandala” which means send it in Spanish, probably to do with the fact that Walter had to send his drugs to Gustavo. Nothing to do with Mandela or the Mandela effect

This episode was a massive turning point for the show. Giancarlo/Gus Fring was only going to be on for one episode. The original plan was that Walt sells his meth to this guy and gets a big pile of money and then Walt was going to go on from there. But when Vince Gilligan and the other writers watched Giancarlo’s performance they were blown away and decided to write him in as a main character. What a performance. He just won a critics choice award on the weekend for his character Gus in BetterCall Saul. Well deserved.

My birthday occasionally falls on a Friday the 13th. We don't go out when it does. Last time I had a birthday party on Friday the 13th, I was like 6 and some kid broke his arm falling off those huge things you climb on at the indoor playrooms. I'm real superstitious about it.

The happy birthday scene to me is so funny because I was watching this show for the first time with friends on Discord. It was pretty late at night and I got hungry so I decided to go make a sandwich real quick and didn't pause the show to interrupt the flow of it. I have a wireless headset so I'm in the kitchen making my sandwich and Skyler White starts singing and I just think to myself "what the fuck?" I literally turned my headset down and proceeded to take my time with my sandwich because the scene just sounded cringe, I couldn't imagine how much more worse it would get actually watching it.

All right, it's heating up now! We got Saul, we got Jane, we got Gus. We even got stupid Ted! I'm so happy you've been enjoying this series up to now because the first time I saw it, I STILL wasn't sold until starting around this point! LOVING these reactions, and they're also very helpful as I'm taking care of a sick relative and although I don't get a lot of time to catch up on all the millions of reaction channels I'm subscribed to, it's a real added comfort and escape that you're out there, you're chipping away at this show, you just put up The Pianist, who the hell can guess what's going to suddenly pop up on your channel, I know I can't! Usually I'm just thanking you for taking the time to do these, edit these, put 'em up (for free!) but definitely I'm adding to that thanks for the helpful diversion from the present sad realities. 16 minute videos, 26 minute videos, those are manageable bite sized pieces I can digest right now.

There's some serious characterization of Combo in his death scene. He had a bigger, better gun and he chose to run instead of fight back. He would rather risk death than kill a child. A child trying to KILL him! He was the fucking real one out of everyone in the crew. 😢
