"Joseph I. Lieberman, the doggedly independent four-term U.S. senator from Connecticut who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, died March 27 in New York City. He was 82.
The cause was complications from a fall, his family said in a statement."

If he didn’t have an Israeli citizenship, he sure did serve israel in the American senate. But how is that antisemitic? Doesn’t Israel claim to be the state of all jewish people world wide? Isn’t every jew granted a free trip to Israel and can get citizenship?
If you have a problem with people saying jews are Israelis/have dual citizenship or loyalty, then you should take it up with Israel who asserts that to be the case.

What people born after the year 2000 need to understand is that when politicians play this game of liberal vs conservative, there was a period of some 50 years of bipartisan consensus. Joe Lieberman was a Democrat but he championed a lot of conservative causes, he helped tank a single-payer option with Obamacare, and he supported the war in Iraq.
For us 90s kids he was partially responsible for the ESRB ( because Mortal Kombat was so violent.) Lol
The modern-day GOP Styles itself as some sort of countercultural Force against the radical left when the truth is they have been in charge for my entire life, alongside corporate conservative Democrats, and all the major mistakes over the last 20 years belong to the GOP.
Iraq and Afghanistan? That's the GOP. Borrowing almost a billion dollars from Social Security to pay for it? The GOP. Subprime mortgage crisis and the resulting financial crisis? GOP deregulation.
The only successful healthcare plan the ACA had all the liberal policy pulled out, basically being the compromise position built upon Mitt Romney's plan for healthcare in his state.
And now we live in a world where conservatives call Joe Biden a communist, and anyone to the left of Reagan's corpse a leftist.
As a fellow 90s kid who left the Left, so to speak, I WISH conservatives were really in charge and Dems were their Washington Generals. Socially/culturally the US and the West has gone so wildly to the left in such a short amount of time, the idea that conservatives are secretly in charge is nothing short of laughable.

That Lieberman came to Congress from Connecticut was significant. On one hand, the popular majority there was more in favor of social-democratic programs than for instance in Montana.
On the other hand, Hartford is known as the “Insurance Capital of The World,” with more than 150 insurance companies located in the region.

Lieberman largely owes his Senate career to Lowell Weicker not taking his candidacy seriously. That was a very close race in '88.

Lieberman was a liberal until 1988 then he reinvented himself as a conservative Democrat to run against Lowell Weicker. It was a successful strategy and he never looked back.
