- Being competitive in a Sprint Car is difficult to do at the best of times.
Do it as a 16-year-old rookie and it becomes a daunting task.
Controlling a 900+ horsepower Sprintcar to meet your own expectations whilst also trying not to tear the thing up is a challenging task.
Balancing a relationship with family is another added element the only adds pressure.
We spent a race night with young Kobi Wright and his Dad, Andrew at Toowoomba's Hi-Tec Oils Speedway to find out how they go racing.

Brilliant video Toby and thanks for the Wright family putting themselves out there
Great video and insight from the driver and team’s perspective. Saw him race yesterday at Lake Liddell Speedbowl always improving. Got to go into the pits to check out the cars too, wow what a nice machine he’s got to drive 👌😎
He's already shown he's getting better and better kobi has alot of talent he has a great careat n 510 wing sprintcar racing he will get better and better which has and at 16 yrs old
What a great behind the scenes view of a young up and coming driver. Thank you for putting me right there. Brilliant as usual!!
Very Wise words at the end there.
Love this, some of the keyboard warriors that have never driven anything other than a road car might wake up to themselves.
Another enjoyable edition from your channel, keeping this old ex speedway fan (and former PCR 'crash crew' member) up to date on the sprintcar scene. Well filmed and edited, however, I'd like to see more attention to the soundtrack of this (and many other) of your posts, as the volume variation from shot to shot (along with the music interludes), renders the whole experience a bit clunky, and somewhat annoying when it switches from 'difficult to hear', to 'blastingly loud'. Constructive criticism only, intended here, for otherwise I think you and your team do a magnificent job. On top of this, your topic selections are entertainingly many and varied, and it's all topped off with your magnificent presentation skills. Well done, indeed !!
Thanks for the comment, mate!
Rest assured that we're working on improving the audio!
Cheers.

the only thing i can see thats a distraction is the phone get rid of it at the track
Live timing & broadcast, onboard videos, data info, the list is ongoing.
Trust me the people I know are not scrolling hopelessly.
Imagine being 16 years old and driving something with a crap load of horsepower (900ish?), much less driving for your dad, daunting to say the least. Christ I was crapping myself driving on the street in a 3 on the tree old Falcon to start with. I admire kids have a red hot go in speedway, they will be a future speedway champions perhaps on the world stage. Well done to their parents for giving them a go. It beats the shit out of phones and computer games for entertainment.
Outstanding. Very well done
The Formula 1 of dirt if you aren’t nervous then there’s something missing. Great coverage laps, laps, laps…
Awesome insight Toby, there are so many mental and physical factors that all take time to develop. Keep up the great content.
Well said at the end there
Personally I don’t think anyone learning to drive a sprint car should start with a 410. It’s hard enough with a 360 without throwing in an extra 300 Hp. So for him to be making A mains in his first season is quite impressive!
Great video Toby. We all appreciate the work and insight you bring!
Driving a sprint car is nothing like driving any other racing car, just the cockamamy seating position is totally anathema in feeling the car through the seat of the pants, let alone the horsepower, tyre stagger, constant change in track conditions and maniacs in traffic trying the "Bonzai Slide job"; baby steps build speed and confidence. Wisdom comes with experience.
hi Toby,
love your content and all your videos,
I have one question and I'm sure you have heard it a million times are we going to see you back behind the wheel driving this methanol monsters.
keep up the great work you do with the channel 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
About 20 years ago I went to school in Scone and was mates with a kid who drove for the Wright team. I used to love talking with him about racing. I’ve lost touch with him since but good to see the Wrights are still racing
it,s a tough task alright. as an ex sedan and limited sprint driver i have a reasonable insight into the work to make it happen! i follow tanner holmes in usa and he,s having a hard time in the woo series competing at the top level. gravel and kofoid are going hard at it. larsen flipped and abrue crashed. so top runners are not immune to drama. mental tenacity is a big requisite in this game! be interesting to see how callum williamson goes in pa.
Awesome vid!

The man
Not sure if it was the cut of the vision but less phone and work on the car. Also Toby has he come up through other divisions or straight to 410 sprintcars ??
he came from formula 500s.
Great content
