It is worrying that Argentina will go from being anti-business to extreme capitalism (an economy that only works for large corporations). We need balance, not more extremes.
- Plan to improve education = Nothing
- Plan to improve health = Nothing
- Plan to improve security = Bullrich chatting with Bukele (Nothing)
- Plan to help SMEs = Nothing
- Tax reform to simplify and alleviate = Nothing (they only raised taxes) Argentine SMEs pay 50% taxes, while mining corporations take gold, lithium and rare earths and do not pay more than 1.5% (in Chile they pay 30% of taxes)
- Serious labor reform = Nothing. A decree that reforms 1000 areas of the state. Areas that cannot be changed by decree, without any consensus, or strategic vision that allows lasting and sustainable change over time.
- Remove environmental regulations (Glacier Law, Forest Law and Fire Law) + Remove the land law (Now you can buy land without any limit knowing that the large international investment funds have more money than almost all countries) + Ideas like “ Taxes are theft” + Ideas like “if a company wants to pollute, there is no problem” = Everything is set up so that large capitals exploit Argentina's wealth while they pollute and do not ask for a single dollar in return, to finance health, education or infrastructure.
- The cost of living has multiplied by three and purchasing power has fallen
- To hide the current economic disaster, the president insults and fights with all dissident voices along with an army of trolls to divert attention.
- The only real thing about everything Milei says is that politicians are a caste. But the current president is now the caste that works for the most powerful caste of all, concentrated financial capital.

And what else is new in the recent history of Argentina? Strikes have been part of the political mismanagement of the country for well over 100 years. The special interests don't get what they want, and then they shut down Buenos Aires -- or the entire country. They think they can do it to Millei. I hope he resists. After 100 years of mismanagement that brought Argentina down from one of the richest countries on the planet to just another underdeveloped Latin American basket case, it's time to return Argentina to prosperity.

Milei based his entire presidential campaign on a premise that turned out to be a big lie: "Caste will pay for the adjustment." Milei doesn't even know the meaning of the word "caste" which implies a question of lineage. He is attacking an Elite / Political Class / State whatever you want to call it . His objective is not to help the citizens but to transfer power to a non-Ruling Elite / Non-political Class / Private Sector (Elite theory of Gaetano Mosca / Wilfredo Pareto) The private sector (companies associated with Atlas Network and its Think Tanks; businessmen such as Carlos Slim, Daniel Funes de Rioja, Galperin and many more) are are trying to use the DNU (emergency decree ) as a Trojan horse to implement measures that do not benefit citizens but rather these groups. The correct path for any politician is not a transfer of power from one sector to another, but a transfer of power to its citizens. For this, the best option is the Participatory Economy (Albert & Hahnel) but no politician seeks that solution because both the state and private power feed on citizens; If people were allowed to make decisions about the economy, they would lose power. The reason why the measures will never favor the common man is clear... Neoliberalism, libertarianism and anarcho-capitalism are decrepit ideologies related to social Darwinism and meritocracy.

It doesn't just "fluctuate" if u look at the evolution of inflation before the current goverment it was mostly ascending monthly and it was on it's way to an hyper inflation. With the exception of the last months of the last goverment which was a bit more "controlled" bc they took debt to artifially mantain the inflation low to win the presidential elections ... Which btw it wasn't sustainable in time and is part of the reason the situation got THAT bad. Like no matter who would've won the elections, The next goverment would've still have to deal with a crisis regardless.
But besides that, Argentina was on it's way to a hyper inflation and the current goverment have been able to stop it and actually reduce the monthly inflation rate. At least for now. We'll see what happens.

I disagree. The government has already had budget surpluses. The currency has been devalued. The results are already showing. THe results showed in the USA in 1776. the results showed in the Usa in 1980's when Reagan cut tax rates, and tax income to the government increased because more people were reinvesting their money. Google the laffer curve. Trump saw the exact same thing. He cut business taxes almost in half, and the government had to pass another continuing resolution or they would have too much money on hand. The results have already been seen.
Chile did this in the 1980s as well. the chicago boys went to chile and fixed it. Today chile is one of the richest latin american countries because milton fcking friedman flew there, and told them to cut the budget and devalue the currency.

You missed some details about the money withheld from Chubut. They put that money as a guarantee if they couldn't pay the interest of their debt they contracted with the nation. At the same time, the government sent multiple communications before withholding the money to renegotiate the debt, but chubut never answered. At the same time, the idea that a governor can withhold the oil and gas that private companies produced thanks to contracts with the province is a huge problem because it goes against their right to private property. When you have all this, to me, it seemed like a tantrum a young, inexperienced governor threw to rally support or try to paint the president as a tyrant.

Agreed. New Zealand was going down a path that had similarities to Argentina in the 70s and 80s (although not nearly as far gone). We also elected a tough love government. Things were rough but after 3 years, we could see progress and they were re-elected with an increased majority.

You are speaking as if the interventions known in NZ as Rogernomics were widely successful but severe issues from that time have never been resolved.
The reason why the Ley de Bases failed in congress is because every article touched someone's money pot. They were unwilling to vote something that would go against their monetary interests. No congressman would vote for something that hurts their or their friend's company.
The biggest example is the "fondos fiduciarios", where very large amounts of money are placed for vaguely defined goals, and someone is given full control over it. Unsurprisingly a lot of money disappeared here, as this structure is taylor-made for corruption.
Fortunately, not even a decree was necessary to cut the "fondos fiducidarios"!

@@GraniteInTheFace Most countries are undergoing a boiling frog experiment of inflation; eroding middle class slow enough so people don't revolt or complain TOO much. But Argentina went overboard with too much inflation, past certain tipping point the process becomes exponential.
Whether inflation "boils" you slowly or fast, the end result is disaster (i.e. Venezuela). If you do it slowly it'll just take longer to get there. Deficit based economy is simply not sustainable.

I'm from Brazil and more than half of Argentina's population lives in the poor, immigration of Argentines to my country has exploded, there are cities on the border between Argentina and Brazil that are turning into ghost towns, it's the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life.

When they introduced harsh economic reforms in Poland in 1989/1990 after communism collapse, it took until 1992 to make economy stabilise and grow again and until early 2000 to actually people feel it.
Poland have had plenty of state subsidy though. They’re the main beneficiary of the EU’s eastward push.

I would like to work with the Argentinian government and invest there. What's happening in Argentinia right now might be great for the government and the people. At the beginning, a bit painful, though.

Something good that is happening with Milei's refelctors, is that for the first time I see people starting to understand what is like to live in a country with high inflation. He fired a minister who took a 48% pay increase live on air. Prime example of how he's cutting the bureaucracy.

@@greg2502 he's already cut down the state by shutting down several ministries. Government doesn't make money, only takes and redistributes and with several departments and personnel now gone it only makes sense that things are on the up and up as far their economy goes.

Do not forget that the inflation that argentinian are suffering now is a consequence of the pesos emission performed by the previous government. They multiplied the amount of pesos (the argentinian money) by six, mostly of that on the last months before Milei. Nothing that Milei did produces inflation. Inflation is a consequence of the deficit, and Milei achieved a surplus. The reasons why prices increase a lot these first 100 days was:
1) The lagged inflation effect of the unbridled monetary issuance carried out by the previous government
2) The cessation of price controls that the previous government imposed to appease the inflationary effect of its own issuance.
3) The gradual cessation of energy and transportation subsidies that the previous government used to increase people's purchasing power at the cost of future inflation (because it paid for it with issued money).
4) The misnamed devaluation that was actually an honesty of the value of the official dollar. Before Milei, government-approved importers had the privilege of purchasing dollars at less than half the market price. Stopping that, the price of imported products doubled (even though the peso gained value against the dollar in the free market in these 100 days).
All is correct.
As a longtime Libertarian and former legislator I have longed to see the principle of minimal government and laissez-faire economy tried on a grand scale and Milei is attempting it. I hope it succeeds and spreads. I live in dollarized Ecuador where the step of dollarizing brought stability so I hope Argentina is able to do likewise.
Dollarization means giving up national financial sovereignity and effectively becoming a colony of the US. That would be horrible future for the country.
Dollarization is at best a stopgap measure but ultimately it means being totally dependent on the monetary policy of the US: if they massively print USDs your economy takes a hit even though it has nothing to do with it.
@@romangnatenko2096 some other countries such as Ecuador have been using dollars for a while now... it's not the end of the world, and it also wouldn't let anybody print money since argentinian pesos wouldn't exist anymore (well, they would, but they wouldn't be a valid currency)
the economic shock of switching from a big government high tax system to a small government low tax system is always gonna be harsh in the transition before business and investment starts coming in.
But in this case, taxes are going up and wages down, and the gobernment size is just the same. He just stop paying the bills. Its no magic there.

Instead of striking, the unions need to figure out how to double worker productivity. Argentina could be a rich country.

@@puraLusa Correct. Living off of debt and subsidies for decades is the problem. Milei is trying to fix that, but it won't happen overnight. The only thing the average worker can do that will have a more immediate effect is to be more productive. Stopping economic activity (strikes) only makes the problem take more time to rectify.
@@incaseofemergency6051 unions are proficiency postures, they call out numbers, it doesn't mean strikers making noise on the streets are said workers. Let time pass, unions by loosing that acess to the comon tax money make even more noise but by repeating the act too many times they start to border people and more importantly people will start pay less atention to it, they loose popularity. For this to happen they need to be let loose on their act.

Turning an economy from collectivist to free market is a painful experience.
It has taken Argentina 50 or more years to decent to this state, it is going to take a few more years yet to even turn the tide. Having said that, positive change can be quite fast, all the government needs to do is to stop making things worse and things will always get slightly better. Milei can't fail to improve matters, because he is doing the only things that can improve them. Whether or not he will be allowed to live long enough to see this through as the powers against him are both very strong and extremely determined, remains to be seen. Argentina has a great deal going for it but has been cursed by the worst kind of leadership in living memory for far too long. So bad is its government that virtually no government at all or anarchy would be a great start.

The solution for a bad government has never been a smaller government or larger either.. taking on corruption and thus improving efficiencies are better solutions..
Smaller government means less corruption by unelected bureaucrats. Smaller government also means less taxes to do its job. Less regulation means more creation and production. Less taxes means more profit for everyone.

It’s easy to bring inflation down when no one has any money to spend. Poverty in Argentina has risen to 57%. You can grow a surplus by not spending on social services, but unless the private sector raises wages for the working poor, poverty will just keep growing with social unrest to follow. 😮
Wages are the price of labor. Reduce government bureaucracy and taxes, get more entrepreneurship, then the demand for labor will rise in turn the wages and productivity. As productivity rises, real wealth increases.

I'm not from Argentina but this video smells more like propaganda. All actions are seen as positive, most without explanation, and any backlash or perceived negative effects are seen only through the lenses of the government.

For context, I am a secondary school teacher in the Province of Buenos Aires. I tend not to go on strike for personal reasons, but since this goverment has declared that "he who strikes doesn't get paid" I just can't go on strike even if I feel it is justified. People say that inflation has frozen and that it is a good thing, but I don't see prices going down or my salary going up. I am a pessimist by default and I don't think things will improve as Milei's says. Time will tell, but I would like to be able to save money for a future plan I have: buying a house.

Disculpen pero me parece que el informe es tendencioso. Evita hablar de las consecuencias de la motosierra: 60% de pobreza, desempleo altísimo, indigencia, precios de productos básicos altísimos, mayor carga impositiva (todo lo contrario a lo prometido). Hoy Argentina es un país imposible de vivir para la gran mayoría de los argentinos.
No les interesa mostrar eso, solo quieren vender ideologia. Yo vi otro informe en donde dicen cualquier cosa sobre un tema que conozco y con fuentes no oficiales presentadas como "la verdad", solo para pegarle a la "comunista" China.
Posters on this board who disagree with Milei never provide a different approach, and never say Argentina should go back to the ways of the prior Administration. They just complain. A complaint without a different option is useless.
The problem is the opossition. They are evil and corrupt.
Seem like a risky opinion to have if you are trying to stay objective. Might make you blame all the opposition’s opposition’s failures on someone else. Like not taking accountability or responsibility.
@@yucol5661 They are all corrupt, and the ones who are complaining is because they recieve no more money from the state. The concept of negotiation they have is with money. They would approve any law, if they recieve privileges, benéfits. Meanwhile people are riding carts with horses to pick up plastic, metal, or whatever they find to sell and have some food, or eating from trash. This was Peron's creation, Socialism creation.

@@levin448Pehahaps you are right, although the inmorality here is brutal. Hordes of people eating from trash during 70 years since Peron's time, and they procreate like rabbits. No government did anything for them. The solution, free money for everybody! Even for the retired people who never worked into the system. In the other side politician who directly steal millons of US$ without hiding it, and of course, privileges for their family and friends. Meanwhile taxpayes life and middle class people is destroyed. We have to pay and pay ...and pay.

Unions can be a parasite if keep unchecked. Unions can hinder country's progress and drain resources.
