It's not "hilariously long" it was the main samurai weapon back then which they used on horseback, the katana everyone thinks is their main weapons is actually their secondary. It's a perfectly normal sized sword for horseback combat.
I remember some full of themself sword RUclipsr (there’s plenty, so take your pick) saying that an Odachi could not ever be properly unsheathed by a single person, and that they required a servant to help before riding into battle, followed by a lengthy bit about how much better a spear was or a bow. The odachi was and is a real weapon that can and was used by the warrior elite. Makes for a crazy death when beheaded by a sword the length of a short spear.
'properly' probably meant not having to remove the sheath/scabbard from your body. this is the Desert Eagle of its time: it's overly-large, impractical, and more an intimidation-piece than anything else.
Dont know which is more challenging, taking the odashi out of the saya on a fluid motion without dropping either of them or putting it back, that was awesome, congrats

When your sword is so hilariously long even the scabbard becomes a weapon
The scabbard is always a weapon if you have the mind to use it
i think its for fighting cavalry
1 Juan 3:19 (RVR1960)
Y en esto conocemos que somos de la verdad, y aseguraremos nuestros corazones delante de él;
1 Juan 3:20 (RVR1960)

Supposedly, id rather have a Naginata tho lmao
It's not "hilariously long" it was the main samurai weapon back then which they used on horseback, the katana everyone thinks is their main weapons is actually their secondary. It's a perfectly normal sized sword for horseback combat.
I remember some full of themself sword RUclipsr (there’s plenty, so take your pick) saying that an Odachi could not ever be properly unsheathed by a single person, and that they required a servant to help before riding into battle, followed by a lengthy bit about how much better a spear was or a bow.
The odachi was and is a real weapon that can and was used by the warrior elite.
Makes for a crazy death when beheaded by a sword the length of a short spear.
although, i do feel as if it wouldn't be as effective as something shorter like a katana in war, especially if your enemy gets close
Pretty sure the main point of that sword was as an anti cavalier tool and was primarily used to swipe at the legs of passing horses.
'properly' probably meant not having to remove the sheath/scabbard from your body.
this is the Desert Eagle of its time: it's overly-large, impractical, and more an intimidation-piece than anything else.
@@asdfbeau It was mostly an anti-cavalry sword, much like the larger greatswords of Europe like the zweihander.
I bet the sword youtuber in question was Shad Brooks. The guy makes all sorts of bullshit judgements like that.
So graceful, a very heavy sword but you make it look half it's weight
Dont know which is more challenging, taking the odashi out of the saya on a fluid motion without dropping either of them or putting it back, that was awesome, congrats

So incredible, truly astounding! Nkwnlets see someone like her actually attempt to wield it. This is precious 🥱
That is the longest sword I have ever seen anywhere.
Believe it or not, they have longer ones.
I have a bastard sword and a smaller Katana. I used to collect. I was a fencer. I study defense moves from different Martial Arts. I resonate with Qi Qong best.
Tell me more about the long swords?
That’s what she said 😂
@@meistresavalon8932 Well, there's the Haja-no-Ontachi, or "great evil crushing blade," as well as the Norimitsu Odachi. Both are downright massive.

Truly motivational
This sword will have so much potential with the hands of a trained Nordic man since they are huge with huge bodies and tall bodies

Definetly! 😂😂😂
For people wondering: The sword she's using is called an odachi.
