Teachers entrusted to be role models for children occasionally slip up, doing the opposite of what’s expected of them and ending up getting arrested. Bodycam footage shows multiple teachers accused of being drunk, some even drinking at school. The Law&Crime Network’s Sam Goldberg walks through multiple incidents where teachers were arrested for allegedly being intoxicated.

When the 1st teacher showed up intoxicated to court I went from being disgusted to truly feeling sorry for her. She obviously has a very serious problem. She needs rehab and support
If being arrested was so devastating while at school why did she show up to court drunk? Her family is enabling her behavior.

@@drummersnare6276a lot of it is genetics and environmental, a lot of people on my dads side of the family drink, and a few of the men are alcoholics. My mom's brother and sister are alcoholics and the rest do not drink.

It's a difficult thing to partially blame the spouse because addicts are addicts and they are going to continue using only if they want to. You never know what's going on at home, the husband could be desperately trying to save her from her addiction every day of his life and can't leave because he loves her too much.@@cathypoags9054
@Charely1925 The case that really hit home was that of Ryan Roger's . The Vodka alcoholic. His grandfather use to give him $5 a day for a small bottle of Vodka. He sadly went for rehab in Dallas Texas and 17 days into treatment he died . One of the sadest alcohol addiction videos on the net . He wanted to turn his life around and died in the treatment program.

@mphillips4324 She was an absolutely disgusting specimen, wasn't she? No concern for the man she hit. Only disdain that he dare be in the place SHE wanted to turn. No remorse for having her own daughter in the car as she drove drunk and had an accident. She could not repeat enough times that SHE teaches disabled children, as if somehow magically that exempted her from any laws or responsibility. She acted as if she just stated her occupation enough times the police would say "Oh, our mistake. If you teach disabled children you are free to go and do as you like." Absolutely incredible!! I certainly wouldn't want this selfish, entitled woman teaching any physically disabled child of mine. Her lack of character and responsibility for her own actions is an eye opener.

When I was in high school, it was common knowledge that one teacher always had some alcohol in their mug. The 90’s were wild. 😂😂
So true! In middle school for me the principal and assistant principal would be drunk at the dances handing out money lol, us kids always knew it was the perfect time to talk to them and hit them up for cash, as weird as it sounds it was common knowledge and no one cared, we all joked about it
The 90s were nothing compared to now, schoolwise. Kids are out of control these days. They don't get in trouble anymore and we don't want to hurt their feelings

I left this same comment!! No one did anything about the Faculty back then. I wonder what has changed? We used to just think as long as they’re not hurting anybody, which most of them weren’t. They were just hurting themselves as we went about our day in school.

She also showed up to this court case drunk. Hopefully she gets the help she needs. Unless you’ve been physically, emotionally, and mentally addicted to a substance, you will never understand addiction.

I think that’s a cop-out to say people who haven’t been addicts will never understand addiction. I also think addition doesn’t absolve someone of their bad or criminal behavior. I would hope that losing her job and endangering her students would have been her rock bottom but alas it seems it wasn’t. I’m hoping the court will put her in drug/treatment court and she gets rehab.
Tara Fritz should have been charged with child neglect and endangerment. If this is an example of her character she should not be involved in a teaching capacity. Seeing herself as a victim and thinking the driver she sent to the hospital be judged based on profession. Something real screwed up with that woman.

The officer with the Fritz seemed so compassionate. He tried to make her feel better and give her some hope. Instead, she threw it back at him and acted like an entitled brat.
I believe .248% BAC is actually 3 times the legal limit. 8x3=24 High-functioning alcoholics are really something. They absolutely NEED a medically-supervised withdrawal program. If they stop drinking cold turkey, they will die. It's very difficult and very serious. :(

I don’t drink alcohol 🍺 but people I’ve known in my life like my dad have had Relapse’s is there something in the human brain 🧠 that has a hard time making them not quit making them feel like there’s no hope?! Cause somehow my Dad quit and went through Relapses after he got remarried to my step mom and then he was doing great for a while and then my actual mother told me that he called up both my sisters Sounding Drunk and I was like oh no not that again 🤦🏻

yeah. if someone presents with a BAC that high and simply appears normal, that's a pretty good sign of physical dependency that might need detox. A normal person would be slurring their speech and having trouble balancing at least at that BAC. Also, it would be impossible to maintain such a high BAC throughout the day without drinking at the location; alcoholics' livers upregulate liver enzymes, so they need to work extra hard to keep up the intoxication.
Wow… that third woman was just nasty. She truly believes that she’s better than everyone else because she teaches children who have special needs. It’s an important job, it’s a tough job, but it doesn’t make her better than everybody else. Certainly doesn’t make her entitled to a free pass for drunk driving… with her children in the car! She didn’t even care about the man who went to the hospital because of her actions. Her family must be mortified to see this video.

The admin's observation that she "didn't sound right," the illegal search of her purse, and the cop's uncalibrated, unofficial Fisher-Price toy BAC tester. Don't get me wrong, I think most teachers nowadays are barely more mature than the students and she probably was sauced, but I'm also concerned with government over-reach and running roughshod over our basic civil rights.

@@jennpenn5 yea, severe alcoholics are so addicted (physically) they need to detox in a hospital or keep drinking to feel fine (cold turkey is dangerous)…so if she is one we can’t blame her too much. However it’s up to her to stop drinking after that. If she isn’t that physically hooked then she probably just lacks the discipline or motivation to stop, some people just want to be drunk all the time (psychological problems)

As a recovering alcoholic I understand Coats and hope she decides to help herself by embracing sobriety. That will open her up to self care and start loving herself. Its not easy. And the cravings never go away. But its sooooo worth it.
I stopped feeling sorry for her when she became so uncooperative, though. There never would've been a court date if she just told the truth and got a ride home, but maybe that's the alcohol talking.

When I was in school, I noticed teachers getting on a bigger power trip every year. I graduated in 1998. Granted, there were a few rock solid teachers left, but the bad ones outnumbered the good ones.

I’m afraid I have little sympathy for drunk teachers. People saying "it’s not their fault, they’re addicts"…well get help, but don’t turn up to school if you’re sloshed. Teachers are acting in loco parentis when kids are at school; would you leave your child with a drunk babysitter in charge of their welfare? I’d hope not. If you’d ever been taught at school by someone obviously intoxicated - let me tell you it’s not a fun experience and feels very unsafe - you definitely wouldn’t be so ready to make excuses for these people.

These school districts accepting resignations for these offenses is shameful. All the drunk teachers have to do is switch districts and say they resigned from the previous position. With the shortage of teachers the new district doesn't check their story and they're back in new jobs with children in no time.

I’m not entirely sure. Mainly you could get arrested if you do illegal physical acts, or drink over the legal limit. My 10th grade English teacher had a drinking problem. We could smell the alcohol as soon as we walked into class. He once handed me my homework assignment back covered in blood. Some students complained about his irrational behavior and the smell of booze and cigarettes but nothing ever came of the student’s concerns. He would fly into random rages and scream. My algebra teacher would openly talk about how much tequila he had the night before and he always smelled like weed. Again nothing ever happened to these teachers. Drunk teachers in the 90’s had it easy apparently.
My mom is a teacher and she gets stressed out with her students. But she doesn’t do that. Come on y’all.

totally agree. The cop said I .06-.07 is a DWI...no its not lol. The keywords here are LEGAL LIMIT...which she was below.
At the beginning of her part in the video, it said there was multiple reports of seeing her drinking on school grounds and the principal smelling alcohol on her breath before the police arrived. She tried to say that she only had one glass of wine the night before at 10:30pm but still had a BAC of 0.066 (which I believe she would have had to consume more than one drink to get) the next day. According to her BAC, her body would have metabolized that alcohol in like four hours. And, no, 0.066 is not legally sober for a public intoxication charge.
@@Jerk_at_Werk Actually, DWI and DUI are different charges in Oklahoma. DWI or driving while impaired is a misdemeanor while DUI or driving under the influence is a felony. DUI is a BAC of 0.08 or higher.
@@josiemoe .08 is the legal drunk driving limit in most jurisdictions. No way that should be considered public intoxication. That's just ridiculous.
She could also smell like alcohol from the night before. Possibly just lied that she went and partied the night before so she wouldn't look bad to her boss. I know I have lied about my night before to a boss before. Irresponsible? Yes. Public intoxication? No. Public hungoverness maybe. Public intoxication 🤣😂😅. I remember my first beer.
Not every person is shameless. I have a friend who drank, waited for a few hours, drove, got pulled over for going 5 miles under the limit and blew just above the legal limit. Didn't give the cops a hard time, went to jail. She pled no contest, paid the fines, went to class, got a second job to pay the fines so it didn't come out of the family budget and learned she either had to take a cab (before Lift and Uber) or walk if she wanted to have a few beers.
We love that! It's called accountability. Most of these folks here are making excuses for these women but nope! Learning from your mistakes and facing the consequences is how real growth happens. Kudos to your friend for handling it like a boss. ❤

I’ve been fortunate enough to have been taught by some top notch teachers (Harding Elementary, Portola Junior High, and El Cerrito High School- California- Richmond School District). Never once did I have a teacher that failed me. This is so distressing to me. My kids were in school in the late 80’s early 90’s and were lucky to have the last remnants of a quality education. This is so sad. Right or wrong I feel for these women. Hope they get the help they need.

She kept projecting her own judgement of herself onto the cops as well, so that she could hear them say "Nooo, you're not a bad person!" When, actually yes, you're a bad person for driving under the influence with your child in the backseat... and then trying to imply that the man *she* crashed into was faking injury and wasn't important? Yiiiiikes!!

called her a cab to send her home and would
determine the next day if she has a chronic problem. If that were the case, she would be put on sich leave and sent to therapy. She would'nt lose her job and she would'nt be arrested. This is just disgusting.

Teachers used to get by with being drunks all the time when my parents were growing up and even when I was growing up in the 70’s through the 90’s. Everyone knew they were drinking on the job but nobody did anything about it! I wonder what has changed that they’re now getting in trouble for drinking on the job?

Our industrial arts teacher was a vodka drinker. Everyone basically just accepted it.

Why would the first one insist that the alcohol was from drinking last night? If she blew triple the limit at 3:30 PM and it was residual from last night it means she would have both been insanely drunk last night but also guilty of DUI driving to work in the morning. But obviously she has a serious problem.

Fritz was by far the worst. Zero accountability for the accident or for her drinking. The accident was the other person’s fault and her drinking was the bartender’s fault 🙄😂 I would hate to be in her life bc I would definitely be at fault for something.
I’m not defending the 2nd teacher, but I seen her story before and there was fishy mess about that.. imo anyway. No one knew whether or not she drove to school. Either way, she blew *under* the legal limit, which is 0.08 and silly gossip made by the school administration is what led up to that whole set up meeting. So they arrested her for just having alcohol in her system. Not because of the amount

I love how law and crime is putting this on blast. Our school systems/educators are at the lowest they have ever been imo. And it goes far beyond these drunk incidents.
Not that it makes it right. But a lot of them probably don't feel appreciated because kids these days have zero respect.

So many people with teaching degrees left, leaving open spots for people who are technically experts in their field, but not necessarily trained to teach children. It's really stressful and tense in the schools rn

I had to homeschool my daughter bc she was coming home in 4th grade saying her teacher was taking pills and falling asleep.. The second teacher I think they over reacted to that! She isn't nowhere near like the first teacher or the third teacher. I've even one teacher set up by a younger teacher so she wouldn't get in trouble

So like many other people I struggle with alcohol addiction sometimes and have needed help. Never have I thought about going to court after a few drinks
I understand why they drink, low pay, badass kids and ect. However that's not an excuse to drink and drive, teaching students..I want to Thank all the police that stop and arrest DRUNK DRIVERS..
It's BS that they're not told who told on them. By law you have the right to defend yourself against your accuser.

I'm retired from a middle school and we had a teacher who stayed drunk and the assistant principal had meth on him but they brushed it under the rug .I reported it and look who got fired 😮
