I will forever be grateful to Carol for capturing these minutes of pure magic. I’ve watched hundreds of times and the magic remains throughout the years.
That was an amazing performance by both of them. My only question is, "What the hell is wrong with all those people who walked on by?" This would have stopped me in my tracks. It was a world class performance.
Many of them may have had appointments they need to get to, many of them may have heard the busker before, and of course, most of the people watching them would have been in front of them, not visible on camera.
@@raytrebor Of course they did. Everyone's busy. NO need to stop and listen. A person can buy a $300 ticket to hear the same thing on stage than proudly boast having paid $300 to see someone perform.
@@raytrebor People get so caught up in their own stuff that they don't bother to stop and listen. There was an experiment posted here on RUclips where Joshua Bell played the violin in the DC Metro on a multimillion-dollar Stradivarius and very few people stopped to listen. Some children stopped, at least until they got dragged away by their parents. I remember when I was in college and I walked out of my dorn to go to class and I saw a large hawk that had caught a squirrel or a rabbit or something and was consuming it on the lawn and everyone was just walking by not looking (and this was before cell phones were as ubiquitous as they are today) and it just shocked me that this beautiful natural wonder was there for everyone to see and no one cared. I stood there for a while to appreciate the hawk before I moved on. Yes, we're all busy people but we could also die tomorrow. And people on their deathbeds never say "I'm so glad I made it to all my appointments on time." I can't even tell you what year in uni it was or what class I was going to, but I will always remember that hawk. More people should stop and listen to the music.
I've watched Phantom - both London and US around 10 times now. This has to be one of the most amazing rendition's of All I Ask... I've seen. How is this guy not starring in a West End show???!
How is it that this came out in 2016 and I'm just seeing this now. Tears in my eyes. The spontaneous connection of two true artists with mastery and deep respect for the material. This is so good!
I've watched 5 times and each time reminds me there's still beauty in the world amidst the horrific world events of the day. How thrilling to hear such talented performers
@@ixopo6715, not funny that you did not mention how the Azov Battalion had been bombing and killing thousands of East Ukraine civilians for 8 years before Russia decided to intervene.
If you only hear the music they sing, you're missing half of the beauty of this performance. You need to watch their interactions with each other. It's just amazing that this all occurred by pure chance. It has my vote for the best impromptu performance by two people who didn't know each other or know of each other. Best of luck to you both.
I think he was unnerved with all the touching, removing his scarf broke the contact, she was very touchy feely, had it been the other way around, it probably would've been considered a bit creepy.
@@YORKEE You must have missed the rest of the whole video, she obviously was just encouraging him and obviously he removed his scarf to give himself some kind of boost as singing with a West End star is very challenging. (He only showed admiration and awe for her that she would sing with a street artist from the beginning!)
This moved me more than anything I've ever seen on stage. Their body language is wonderful. Two generous, beautiful artists coming together spontaneously. So life affirming....and free!
covent garden market was one of my favorite places to visit when i lived in london. the bustle of the vedors and buyers, the beauty of the old building, and you never knew what magical moment the buskers would present before you! this video brought back those memories and made me wish i'd seen stephen and celinde create this transcendent performance. can i join you, she asks? can she sing? he wonders.. and when she opens her mouth he must be nervous: can i keep up?.. his utter joy and humility when he hears her angelic voice.. her enthusiasm, encouraging him, praising him.. it's as if they had been rehearsing for weeks. perfection.. it gladdens my heart and takes my breath away every time i watch.. every damn time.. thank you!!
I arrived at Waterloo station about a week ago to meet with a friend. As I got through the ticket barrier, There was that amazing operatic voice feeling the air . I was intrigued and followed the voice . When I got close and saw Stephen, I had to stop and watch for the next 30 minutes, spell bound by his rich warm and powerful voice. I stayed for several songs from Les Mis, then he sang "you ll never walk alone " and "The Unchained Melody" in the most beautiful, moving way I ve ever seen ! Stephen, you were a pure ray of sunshine in the middle of that busy crazy station, you made my day. Later on we went to see a play, which was disappointing so your singing more than made up for it. Thank you ! Don't give up, keeeeeeeep SINGING !!! :-) :-)
Well done Stephen. Busking sometimes takes guts and you pulled it off perfectly. What a moment of a life time. Do you want to do the same with a flaitist? A similar thing happened to me. It only happens when you put yourself out there and Make your own luck. Dont listen to these stupid ads online. Get out there and sing or play! I entertained the Banksy queue for hours. Most people were touched. The staff of Browns weren't so pleased but I ended up playing piano for them. Give it a go and make those connections if you have musical talent
Beautiful! Wonderful gesture to sing with a busker and even without a proper auditorium, her voice is stunning and his voice is also a great pairing to hers!
This is the most amazing video. So moving to see the reaction of Stephen when he realises with whom he is singing. Celinde is so gracious and obviously recognised his talent. His reaction and appreciation makes one overcome with emotion. The most moving thing I've seen on You tube.

This is amazing, he was so shocked, but he also has the voice to actually sing the role. I mean he could probably have walked in to the theater and done the part.
This was wonderful. Celinde is already a star & Stephen's voice was the perfect foil for her. He deserves to be on a West End or Broadway stage with his powerful, and mellifluous voice. They make a great pair.

Just discovered Stephen Barry. Only a vocal teacher? he should be a professional singer. His voice is better than many pros. He deserves more, much more than just RUclips and busking. Why didn't that "Christine" recommend him to producers, etc.?

Stephen just this Monday headlined the Celebrity Edge's evening live theater shows on our cruise from Dubai, UAE, to Singapore, and put on an incredible performance. Great singing coupled with lighthearted humor. A rousing standing ovation followed his mesmerizing vocal talent and performance.
The moment after 9 seconds when he bends his knees and slowly turns the microphone to her with a gesture like "Aww sweetie, try singing into the round thing, it won't hurt you, don't be scared" and then she just blows him away. Awesome moment, and it is a great duet, many thanks to Celinde to step out of her comfort-zone. Stephen is of course way to good to be a busker.....

It takes guts to get out of your comfort zone...butterflies in your stomach etc but if you put yourself out there you can end up travelling on tour to Hong Kong or be approached by a film director like I did. Amazing things can happen from this unusual platform because it is so spontaneous and people generally appreciate talent. If you have become a star Stephen keep bringing it to the masses sometimes on the streets. You gave an awesome performance and I dont even like musicals that much so it must have been good

Beautiful a perforrmance. How can people walk on by ignoring the opportunity to witness and enjoy such beauty. I enjoy this performance several times a week. Than you, Stephen and Celinde, for making life more beautiful.
How can this have come out in 2016 and I've never seen it? I'm a huge "Phantom of the Opera" fan, seen the musical five times. How does Stephen not have a recording / recording contract somewhere? Why can't I find him in the Apple Music store. How cool of Celinde to do this with him! This moved me enough to send it around to family and friends. It is saved as a favorite, something I will come back to whenever I need and uplift.
Possibly one of the lovliest videos I've seen on the Internet. Spontaneous, natural and stunning. The chemistry between you both is wonderful. Best of luck Stephen. You have an incredible talent.
Have screened RUclips for almost all other available duets of this piece. Many of them very well set up, indoors, with the best recording techniques at hand. And yet, this performance, recorded by a handhold mobile camera is by far the best permanence I've found. The common musical enjoyment they display is enormous. Her generous gift of singing with him is heartwarming. They have both great voices, but he is the best performer of the male part of all I've seen, in my opinion. He has just a stunning voice, it's richness is incredible! Can not stop watching this!
I have no idea how people can just walk by, they must be blind and totally deaf. Or is it that London is just dripping with this type of busking 😳😳😳. Well I can’t stop watching this and there are several postings, it’s just heavenly. What a gift to stumble across something like this LIVE. thank you for posting it. I am smiling so much. I shared today with my granddaughters who love phantom ❤️❤️❤️ - they were equally in love with this.BRAVO 👏👏👏👏👏❤️🌹
No more talk of darkness Forget these wide-eyed fears I'm here, nothing can harm you My words will warm and calm you Let me be your freedom Let daylight dry your tears I'm here, with you, beside you To guard you and to guide you Say you love me every waking moment Turn my head with talk of summertime Say you need me with you now and always Promise me that all you say is true That's all I ask of you Let me be your shelter Let me be your light You're safe, no one will find you Your fears are far behind you All I want is freedom A world with no more night And you, always beside me To hold me and to hide me Then say you'll share with me One love, one lifetime Let me lead you from your solitude Say you want me with you here, beside you Anywhere you go, let me go too That's all I ask of you Say you'll share with me One love, one lifetime Say the word and I will follow you Share each day with me Each night, each morning Say you love me You know I do Love me that's all I ask of you Love me, that's all I ask of you ❤
I happened upon this video, scrolling through FB videos. This one was the last video to scroll through. It is now one of my all time favorites! It is so real and spontaneous. This busker guy Stephen is great, but man, who is this gracious, most beautiful Celinde Schoemaker??? She is an angel, who has descended from celestial courts above to brighten our lives. She is so beautiful and amazing in every way. What a cool experience this must have been for him. How wonderful to have this talent performed on the street spontaneously like this. Bravo!
Amazing singer, he just sung beautifully on our Caribbean cruise, he has such a beautiful tone and hits every note. Lucky you Stephen to sing with Celinde too. Take care and keep singing Stephen!
So, so beautiful. Just have to keep playing it. Thanks for filming. He's so professional and his voice is amazing and perfect, somebody please sign him up.
Ever since a friend showed me this video a week ago, I forwarded this to about 20 of my friends. Each of us have since viewed this another 20 or more times.....and we will continue to watch it. Celinde and Barry, you rock!!
Just WOW! What a performance! For me, this beats any Hollywood scene I've ever seen. The setting, characters, inter-action, chemistry, talent, body language in this "You're out of her league" scene is so magical, romantic, heartwarming, and funny. They made it look like they got married eventually (on a November 10) and had lots of happy grandkids!!
It is now August 2023… and I keep watching this piece…. I want more…
Its pure joy.

Magic moment captured for all to enjoy. Love it.
No more talk of darkness
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
To guard you and to guide you
Say you love me every waking moment
Turn my head with talk of summertime
Say you need me with you now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you
Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe, no one will find you
Your fears are far behind you
All I want is freedom
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me
To hold me and to hide me
Then say you'll share with me
One love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you want me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
That's all I ask of you
Say you'll share with me
One love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me
Each night, each morning
Say you love me
You know I do
Love me that's all I ask of you
Love me, that's all I ask of you

They gave me tears in my eyes.
It was for me a caress for the ear, a feast the eye and a recreation for the mind.
Chapeau 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻.
George.
Just beautiful, he needs to be on stage in west end , brought a tear to my eyes 💕
Bravo!
The Best Ever !!!! What chances are of that happening. Hope you stay in touch. Where are you now 2022 ? Love the Oregon Piano Man USA.
He's so professional and his voice is amazing and perfect, somebody please sign him up.
one year later, and I'm still watching and crying.
A big shout out from Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada... Give this guy a spot on a stage... Pretty Cool Steve..!!
I keep coming back and watching this ...love love love it
This is what I want from RUclips
Ever since a friend showed me this video a week ago, I forwarded this to about 20 of my friends. Each of us have since viewed this another 20 or more times.....and we will continue to watch it. Celinde and Barry, you rock!!
Just WOW! What a performance! For me, this beats any Hollywood scene I've ever seen. The setting, characters, inter-action, chemistry, talent, body language in this "You're out of her league" scene is so magical, romantic, heartwarming, and funny. They made it look like they got married eventually (on a November 10) and had lots of happy grandkids!!
