I watched some of Cobus's videos and I really love them but you guys know how it is, when someone like me looking for a cool drum cover, always looking for those songs what I know and like in the first round.
So I watched the skrillex and other covers over and over again. But this time I told myself "let's see something new, maybe I can see some cool stuff" and BOOM! That "video in video" thing with the 3 different drumming is just blew my mind! Awesome! And I'm not ust saying that, if I say AWESOME, I mean it! I've never seen anything like this before. Nice job!!!

+Newteen well in fact that's not that hard (i mean for me (sorry i dont wanna show off :/)) , it's like a double bass drum, you kick twice for one or two hits on the snare or toms, and it sounds very good + it takes only one hand if you hit once. Work it if u can it is very useful, even for soloing... Anyway Cobus is an awesome drumer and i think i'll never reach is level. Keep on drumming ;)
+Newteen Hey! I know this is kind of late, but it's actually a very simple fill. The whole fill is just 16th notes. The fill is just: 1(snare) + e(bass) + &(bass) + a(tom), 2(bass) + e(bass) + & (tom) + a(bass), 3(bass) + e(tom) + &(bass) + a(bass), 4e&a (snare, snare, snare, snare), 1 Crash/Bass. Hope this helps!

WOW! What a massive workout that must have been. The dude from TSTM isn't the most technical drummer but MAN he writes some full on and aggressive parts!
The 2nd half of this vid was GREAT. I loved all of the drum jam stuff. I think in the first half the groove changes were a little bit distracting. I normally love it when you mess around and get creative with the drum arrangements of your covers. I just think it didn't work in the first half of this one. EPIC all the same though!

Question....are you playing over the original drum tracks, playing "with" it...or, were you able to somehow edit the original out? Otherwise, love the videos.

He's just playing the song in the background and laying his drum track over it. You can't take out the original drums, they are just being masked by his. The only way to get rid of the original drums is by having access to the original studio session and stems. Or if you some how manage to get a drums only track you could just reverse the phase and lay it over the original and it should cancel out the drums. I've never tried that myself so I don't know how smooth it would be.

Not really effective if you want to completely remove the drums but it cancels enough so that you don't hear them once you put your drums on.

how do you remove the drums from the song you are doing a cover of?
dan_the_adventurer I'm not so sure the drums are removed from the song - what he is playing is so accurate to the actual drum track of the song - add in the fact that his drums are slightly louder than the song's volume - and the original drum track is simply not heard because his drums match them.Or maybe he went into some sound editing program and was able to remove the drums, that too. In that case, I have no idea what program he would've used!

Sign Velo Most covers are just mixed in a way that the live drums overpower the recorded ones. Works pretty well most of the time if the cover isn't too far off base from what was originally in the song.
Sign Velo Real explanation: Most covers on RUclips the drums just play on top of the track (they are not removed), but Cobus actually pays for the copyright and asks for a studio version of the song without the drum track.
You know....I watch these videos, and I can't believe there is anyone who could possibly give this a thumbs down. As a drummer myself and a musician/song writer, this is inspirational. The haters are just jealous and that's a fact. If you can do better, you'd be out here being a RUclips sensation with sponsorship deals. Cobus, I have been watching your videos since I was 10, copying all of your little techniques, and fangirling over your every video (no creepiness intended). And then I didn't see any new covers for a while, and I was heartbroken. Then, after months of practicing this exact song for my grade ten solo, adding as many fills, flams and double kicks as possible, and then you whip out this kick ass, manchild, beast of a song, and make me redo my solo seventeen hours before it is due!!!
