- Simon Rattle on the Record. This documentary produced by Central Television in 1988, the year after his BBC video of the Bereo Sinfonia with the CBSO and Electric Phoenix, includes interviews with inter alia his father and with his teacher John Carewe, all conducted by Nicholas Kenyon.
I remember being conducted by this young genius conductor in 1974 at the Aberdeen International Festival of Youth Orchestras.
Happy days.
Later in 1974 I started at Birmingham University and had lessons with two members of the CBSO.
It was so lovely to hear from his dad, Dennis. I first heard Simon at Worcester Cathedral in 1981 conducting Mahler 1. It changed my life.
He looks so young!
When Simon conducted the Berio Sinfonia for the first time, with London Voices, he rehearsed and performed it better that other conductors who had performed it before.
He turned out to be the most incredible conductor ever. He went onto the Berlin Philharmonic.
Heard Rattle conduct a couple of Sibelius symphonies in Warwick Uni Concert Hall with CBSO when he was very young, might have been in the late 1970s; he had a growing reputation

Very beautiful ! Thank you for this. I'm going through covid and this is so inspiring 🙏💗🦋
Thanks for posting this! Fantastic!
This is a jewel
I'm just waiting for a documentary called "Shake Rattle and Roll" :P What a Maestro he his.
Not many Percussionists can transition to being a Conductor but Sir Simon Rattle did it with ease
One wonders how the course of musical history would have changed had Rattle accepted the post in LA.
John Whiting, John Whiting, THE WINDOW TO WATCH. (That's just for you, John-William)
Lol, so his hair was always crazy.
Die Klangfarbe seiner Sprechstimme hat sich zu heute wenig verändert 😲

He reminds me of a Bond Villan 🤣
There is not ONE master recording by Rattle. He does many things quite well. Now he is part of the decadent business of dying classical music.
