Link's Awakening was the Zelda series first adventure on a handheld. How is it that a game which began as a spin off be remembered as a timeless classic.

Another very special thing about Link's Awakening DX is that there are alternate versions of several of fhe photo album picutres you can get. Also, while you have Marin with you, you can do SO many different things, it's not just limited to some of the photo album pictures. You can use many different items of yours and she'll have something to say. You can also play the crane game with her and it has a special scene. Not only that, but if you go into a dungeon, she will wait for you outside. If you come back out, she'll have a unique sprite of her sitting down and waiting. She'll come up to you and say something, but if you're low on health, she expresses her concern at your injuries and heals you. You can also visiy many of the NPC's with her and they'll also have something unique to say. Marin was always the best love interest in Zelda. If you finish the game without dying, you will get a special ending with a potrait of her face over seagulls flying away, and a last Wind Fish's Ballad plays in her soundfont, strongly hinting she was reincarnated as a seagull to fly beyond the horizon, as was her wish.
Also, every dungeon layout pattern matches the name of the dungeon. There is also an alternate way to get the monkeys to build the bridge. If you hang onto BowWow for longer than you were supposed to and you manage to make it to that section, before getting the bananas, they will fight bowwow and lose, and they will make the bridge for you because they were defeated in combat. Link's awakening also allows you to combine several items, like the bomb arrows etc. There are so many special moments and things about this game that make it stand out from the entirety of the series. And yes, it absolutely has the best soundtrack.

Mine too. I took a chance and asked my uncle for a Gameboy for my birthday, and he got it. It came with Link’s Awakening.
I just recently found your channel then binge watched all your Zelda videos. This is the first time I see a new upload of yours on my feed and it is a moment of joy. There's really few creators that I watch immediately when they release something. Great stuff
I grew up owning Link's Awakening DX on my Gameboy Color and always played a bit then put it down. This year I finally played it. Definitely one of my new favorites, and definitely my favorite 2D title.
If you enjoyed this one I strongly recommend atleast checking out Oracle of Seasons / Ages.

@@iantaran2843 Oh, I've been playing/replaying every Zelda game in release order over this past year. I just finished Twilight Princess this past week, so I already got past the Oracle games. First time completing them and I greatly enjoyed them. Not my favorite entries so far but I did like them better than A Link to the Past, but not quite as much as Link's Awakening. Very good and I can absolutely see why they would be someone's favorites.
Being able to fire bomb arrows certainly was fun.
I love this game so much, Link's Awakening DX is far and away my favorite 2D Zelda game
Although I played DX first, my first completed Zelda was probably Oracle of Ages. It's cool how they essentially share the same visuals. I like the aesthetic of the handheld Zeldas.

No Zelda, Hyrule and that Ganon bullcrap they kept reusing for most Zelda games. That acorn power up music got you amp AF.
RUclips did me a favor recommending this and the LttP video. I consider LttP to be a rare example of a perfect game, or at least as close to a perfect game as one can be, but Link's Awakening changed me as a kid/person. I don't think I ever viewed video games or stories the same way. Up to that point, Goombas and Koopas were bad guys. Ganon was evil. I had never really paused to consider the motivations of my enemies, and the game took advantage of that innocence in setting up its twist. It hit me like a truck, and I often still find myself existentially uncomfortable with the objective of the game. The owl, for his part, seems to have been deliberately manipulating/misleading you in order to get you to go through with waking him up, stringing you along on the false hope that maybe everything will be ok in spite of what the bosses have been telling you. It was like no Zelda game before it, and it still stands out very prominently all these years/entries later.
Link's Awakening DX HD is by far the best way to play this game. I just wish it had a built in Randomizer, like Ship of Harkanian.
