    I know exactly how you feel. I just recently moved to a much larger house. My old control room contents alone now occupy two rooms in my new house but I still hardly have enough room to move.

    If I'm ever in the UK, I want to visit this incredible museum! I started out with reel to reel in 1962 and have owned Webcor's, Teac's and currently have an Otari 5050 BII. Someday I would like to have a Studer A10 and a Technics RS1520

    Fascinating collection.
    I hope your house move went OK, without any reel to reel casualties!
    I was chuffed to hear you mention one of the decks I have, the Pioneer RT-707.

    Wow a 24 track Sony, I used to mail you quite a while back about the Dash machines as I was fascinated by them. Please get a video of that up asap.
    I have been looking for a Pioner RT-909 as a little home machine as I can't get a large one for space reasons. Not had much luck. I'll send you a mail and catch up.

  • @Seblington
    @Seblington  13 лет назад +1

    Thank you, the RT-909 is a great machine, there were only very minor casualties, scrapes and such, nothing serious.

    Sorry Televoice, I couldn't reply to your comment, this shaky video is quite old now, the video quality is poor as mentioned in the description, there's a better one showing over 300 machines if you check my other videos, need to make a new one soon featuring the 400 machines I know have.

    Can I call round for an in depth tour? I'd love a real nice reel to reel. Which one? Thinking maybe an early valve studer in keeping with my old quad 57 stack and pair of leak stereo 20s...or perhaps a revox b77...or an akai? Decisions decisions. Ive never owned a reel to reel. Pretty clueless as what to look for or how to use one. You have an epic collection sir. It makes me smile :-)

    The last A-810 they made is a good machine, other than that, I would use a Sony deck any day over the Studers, eprom card issues and bad transports made them a big pain in the ass.
    Nice collection though....

    • @Seblington
      @Seblington  9 лет назад

      marcusdolby1 You say that yet in the 20 years I have collected recorders,I have not once ever seen an EPROM issue, and I have repaired well over 100
      Studers in that time, most the time people falsely accuse the EPROM’s because
      they read it on a forum somewhere, the repairs I have done where someone has
      said that turned out to be something completely different. Sony’s have their
      fair share of issues, for example the PCM machines I have had needed complete
      re-capping, the APR-5000’s had issues with power transistors and end of tape
      sensors. I would say that transport reliability swings in the Studers favor,
      they are more complex yes and I have had issues with them ( see my video on the
      A812) but I have also had the same with the Sonys shredding and snapping tapes,
      never had that on a Studer.You have to also bear in mind these machines are all over 30 years old now, EPROMS lifespan is about that time so Studers, Sonys and all the larger decks made from the 80's onward can fail at any time.

    • @marcusdolby1
      @marcusdolby1 9 лет назад

      Seblington I am speaking from a 24-7 studio point of view, plain and simple our Sony decks held up much better than our A-80 or the A-810s we had, we had 2. I really love the Studer tape machines, I really do, I think they are a work of art and great sounding, just weak if you have to use them all the time. That's why the Ampex 351, 440 Series was so great, those things could run forever!!
      Its like our Neve Console, great console sounds fantastic but, its a cash cow, bad design. Burns caps like crazy and it became WAY to expensive, even for a world class studio like ours

    I have a 2 bedroom terraced house in central London filled with reel to reels, I need to move out of London and buy a bigger house with a huge out building to put them all in. No girlfriend would put up with all my gear no way, that’s why I rather do without one, lol.

    • @Seblington
      @Seblington  3 года назад

      LOL you can have both, there are women out there ;) this video is rather old now, the later one I posted is of 400 machine, and I peaked last year atjust over 600 (Going down now), and I'm married :)

    • @conundrum112

      You could be right there, maybe there are some forgiving women out there, lol. I am having trouble finding a Vortexion signal meter for mine. I need to take out the amp as I only took the word of the previous owner that he changed the black Hunts caps. I saw one near the signal meter, maybe that could be the source of the meter problem, what do you think ? The glass did fall in when I got the machine but not sure if that could have damaged the machine ? It was sent down to me from Bristol by a man in a man courier with the amplifier section loose ! there should be two 4BA screws holding the amp in place, done now thankfully. ruclips.net/video/09uP1nAfBbM/видео.html

      @@conundrum112 I dont think so, havent got one on my CBL's or my WVC

    • @Seblington
      @Seblington  3 года назад

      @@conundrum112 The Ferrograph series 4 has a very similar meter but first do a diode test on the meter, its very low voltage and would make the needle move if it was working. These machines as you know have thoes dreadded HUNTS caps, I have replaced them on a number of my machines, and yes, it could be stopping the signal getting to the meter. You could also do a BIAS test, put the machine into record mode and select the BIAS reading for the meter, see if it moves

    i had a x2000 years ago some idiot said i would never repair it (he also had a tascam engineer look at it) i said as a joke teac for free 10 pound to deliver it. He delivered it about 40 mins later up and running mains lead had been squashed when you power it up it tripped the fuse box owned it for years told him about 5 year after your 10 pound teac is still in my front room (it was boxed the black teac) like brand new
