Is a simple skincare routine BETTER than a 10-step routine?

Using too many products on your skin can be detrimental for several reasons:
    - Irritation and Sensitivity: Overloading your skin with multiple products, especially those containing potent active ingredients, can lead to irritation, redness, and sensitivity. Different ingredients may not interact well with each other, causing adverse reactions.
    - Compromised Skin Barrier: The skin has a natural protective barrier that helps retain moisture and keep harmful substances out. Using too many products can disrupt this barrier, leading to dryness, increased water loss, and susceptibility to environmental damage.
    - Breakouts: Some products may clog pores or exacerbate existing acne-prone skin, leading to more breakouts. It can be challenging to pinpoint the exact product responsible when using too many at once.
    - Allergic Reactions: The more products you use, the higher the chance of encountering an ingredient to which you may be allergic or sensitive. Identifying the culprit can be difficult when using numerous products.
    .
    .
Instead of piling on numerous products, it's better to focus on a simple, effective, and personalized skincare routine. Identify your skin's specific needs and concerns, and choose products that target those issues. A basic skincare routine typically includes a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen (in the morning). You can then incorporate targeted treatments like serums or spot treatments for specific concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation, or aging.
If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, consider seeking advice from a dermatologist or skincare professional who can recommend a tailored routine and products suited to your skin type and issues. Remember, quality over quantity is key when it comes to skincare.

last year I simplified my routine and its a game changer. Mornings is simple: Rinse with water, moisturizer, and spf. Night routine is when i do the more (Fun?) part: cleanse, barrier serum (has niacinmide in it), moisturizer. I haven't used any actives in my routine for over a year since I have sensitive, dry, rosacea prone skin.

Such a great point!! I think I fell for trying to incorporate too many diff kind of skincare products with different active that's supposedly good for me...and over time, I feel my skin has gotten so much more sensitive than it used to be. Now, I still try alot of diff products but only keep the ones that i actually see results. One good thing with trying so many products is that I know a little better what my skin likes an doesn't like, so that helps me only focus on a few actives.

I use cleanser 20% ascorbic acide, lactic acid, q10, moisturizer, sunscreen, then night cleanser tretinoin .14%, copper and other peptides, growth factors, pigment cream, moisturizer, aquaphor, bed. Basically I include retinoids, peptides, acids, ceramides, antioxidants, growth factors, and tyrosinase inhibitors.

Excellent content once again. Such an antidote to 'skinfluencers', most of whom seem to have no actual medical qualifications but try to persuade that more products are better.
One thing tho doc, could you please ditch that background-it totally made me queasy!

Really good video . Sometimes higher concentration is necessary. Some derm says consistency over intensity. But I used 5% niacinamide and 1% arbutin Kojic acid and saw no benefits at all for my pigmentations. Where's 10% niacinamide and 2-5% arbutin showed tremendous results for pigmentations. Same goes with azelaic acid 10% doesn't work for acne or pigment but 20% does .

Thanks for this video- agree entirely with all u said. Only question is that waterproof sunscreen or mineral sunscreen does not come off with just a gentle cleanser like QV, so can u recommend another non stripping one please? Many thanks😊

I simplified my skin care routine a few years ago after watching your ABC’s of Skincare video. The only thing I have added is a hydrating serum, as when I hit 60 my skin went from oily to having some dryness. I get lots of compliments on my skin, especially when people find out I’m over 60 years old. My AM routine is splash with water, hydrating serum, Vitamin C, sunscreen. My PM routine is cleansing balm (to remove sunscreen and/or makeup), gentle cleanser, niacinamide (Vitamin B), tretinoin (Vitamin A), & simple moisturizer without any additional actives. I don’t use any exfoliating products as I think the vitamin C & retinoid are enough. Thanks for your recommendations, they have been very helpful.

Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.

From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

I only use cleanser tretinoin and moisturiser at night 😊 I also enjoy using salycilic acid cleanser as I have acne oily skin. I have some redness between breasts so trying anti fungal cream and will see if it goes away/using salicylic acid cleanser too. If it won’t help I’ll try sudocrem or salicylic acid 2% toner
Or benzoyl peroxide cleanser on that area.

I used to try the longer routines and my face wasn’t happy. Now I only use cerave face cream for babies and niacinamide twice a day, sometimes throughout the day if the air is dry and my face has been better than it’s ever been.

i use a very basic route. I work outside year round.
Am: Cleanse w/ micellar water, moisturizer w/ spf, plus another spf on top. Lipbalm. If there are high winds, i slug my cheeks to prevent windburn.
PM: Double cleanse with a balm and face wash, heavy night cream, eye cream, and a lanolin lip mask. Once a week, i use a sa exfoliating face wash.
I dont realy enjoy a drawn out routine but hate chappd dry skin. so i do the bare minimum to keep my skin happy

People are greatly damaging - and even ruining - their skin barriers with too many products. The practice also causes rosacea to develop in many people, and no one can convince me otherwise.
It is very irresponsible for influencers to promote the use of a lot of products, or to jump around from product to product, and yet many of them do. I would like to name, right here, the ones who are especially guilty of doing that, but I won't.

  • @annmareepearce6568

Totally agree. In fact, I was told it's useless layering any more than three treatments at a time, because the skin will only really absorb the first, and the absorbtion goes down from there. I apply my actives one at a time, followed by a moisturising cream, and sunscreen if I'm going out. That's it. If I'm home all day, I divide my skin treatments into 3 times daily. I feel that is better than piling numerous products in one sitting. That's what works for me.

That’s why there is an order to apply, apply deep penetrating things first etc. While I like simple on a day to day basis I do use two serums of a morning and a retinoid at night

Korean 10 step routine is a hyped myth, ask mature Korean women with stunning skin. Yes, they use effective and trusted domestic brands BUT few products at a time, a regular woman doesn't do crazy layers because no need.

My evening routine is mostly something like this...
    1. Cleanser. If I have sunscreen or makeup on my face, I double cleanse with a cleansing balm.
    2. Either exfoliation or serum of some kind. Currently: Exfoliation 1 day/week, Retinal 3 days/week, soothing/hydrating serum 3 days/week. On the soothing/hydrating serum days, I use the ordinary argireline as well, and spritz water on my face between the steps.
    3. Eye cream and moisturizer.
My morning routines are very simple. Mostly just one of these options (depending on need):
    - Cleanser and sunscreen.
    - Cleanser, argireline, eye cream, and moisturizer.

Best skin ever since I started seeing a dermatologist…..I’d destroyed my skin barrier in an effort to target signs of aging. I use QV Face, so inexpensive and Retinoid at night ( which I never thought I’d tolerate again). Simple easy skin supportive routine. I got a referral to a derm after watching Dr Dray.

so good, Doctor! At age 66, I realized I was doing too much and switched over to a natural regimine..(Dr Haucshka) and add a 25% lactic acid peel every 2 weeks follower by a non fragranced cream on that night. Will be incorporating red light with an antioxidant most mornings. My skin is happier. Thank you for this timely video!
