    Great video. Thanks. Last month, i drove from Montréal to Chisasibi village next to the James Bay. 17 hours drive. Amazing experience. Visited Fort George (abandoned Crii village) and Radisson (LG2 hydro electric central). Didn't leave my province and lived a culture shock!!!!

    Paula, you are not alone. My wife and I love finding little treasures on the trail or the beach. Hope your travels continue past this year. There is sooooo much to see just on the North American continent that we have traveled a lot during the past 41 years together.

    I love your sense of excitement in visiting all of your provinces. I know a number of my fellow Americans who boast of visiting all fifty of our states, but perhaps because they are not "remote" and difficult to reach, it isn't seen as an accomplishment and certainly not an "adventure." So, not only do I admire your excitement, but find myself envious too. This summer I hope to complete my "bucket list" of your provinces with a motorcycle ride up to Chisasibi and dip my toe into the Nunavut waters...

      R unners Thanks R unners! We really hope to do the territory more justice in the future as well. We've absolutely loved all of the northern communities we've visited in the Yukon, NWT, etc. I'm sure we'll love the people of Nunavut just as much! Thanks for the congrats, and thanks, as always, for watching! :)

    My goal and I did it about a month ago was to swim in the Gulf of Mexico.. Now I have been in every State on the East coast.. Its a good feeling, being complete like that. The water was warm and clear.. I'm glad I did it.. Almost like being on that island.. I know that feeling..

    • @BackToReality
      @BackToReality  9 лет назад

      bill bye lol, thanks Bill! We had an awesome time out on the bay. You're right about the choppiness on the way back. We were racing the tide as it was rushing out. If we had delayed any longer, we could have gotten stranded several hundred meters off shore. The water is so impressively dynamic!

    I hope to go up to Quebec next summer, and actually go up into the Hudson Bay by boat. Also, how did you get that Cree man to take you up to that island, if you don’t mind me asking?

    Patrick is my father, he passed away in October 2017 in a boat accident out in the bay 😢

      Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear this. We only knew him for a short while, but your father seemed like a kind and gentle man. We are so very sorry for your loss.

    Some geographers would disagree with you that Hudson Bay is part of the Arctic Ocean. Because there is an outflow into the coast of Labrador some maintain that it is part of the north Atlantic. I'm not a geographer though so I don't know. But you were definitely in Nunavut.

    I love the desolate beauty. But I can just imagine how brutal it must be up there in the middle of the winter. And that looks like an awful small boat to cover 30 kms.

    • @BackToReality
      @BackToReality  9 лет назад +1

      Bill Keller We were pretty surprised by the size (or lack thereof) of the boat as well. However, this style of boat was actually created as a partnership between the Cree people and Yamaha. It was designed specifically for use in James Bay and was built in a small factory right there in Waskaganish. Unfortunately, the boats were built so well, that they apperently never needed replacing, and the factory eventually closed. Thanks for watching Bill!

    You JUST made it into Nunavut. I google the Nunavut territory and stag island king of feels like cheating a little bit...haha. But well done looking forward to seeing your next video.

    • @BackToReality
      @BackToReality  9 лет назад +1

      Ryan McLean lol, I hear ya... but there are no roads that lead to Nunavut, so this is pretty much the best you can do if you want to visit the territory during a road trip! I DID feel bad crossing it off our list though, after only venturing about 100 meters into such a huge territory... Oh well, still counts!! :)
      Thanks, as always, for watching and commenting!

    Actually, that island and 80% of the islands in James Bay and Hudson Bay are under jurisdiction of the Cree and thus a part of Québec now since 2012.

    We have been looking to do exactly this on our road trip this summer but havnt been able to find any information online. How did you go about finding the captain to take you to Stag Island? Would love to know more so we can also make our dream of reaching Nunavut come true!

    • @BackToReality
      @BackToReality  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Chris and Nicole. This took a bit, but in the end, we were connected with our guide through the Waskaganish tourism officer (his name was Ken Taylor, at the time. He's the one giving us a tour of the village in this video: ruclips.net/video/AVLJkJa70X0/видео.html). You can reach the Waskaganish tourism department through this website: waskaganish.ca/tourism/
      Good luck! It's an incredible place.

    How did you go about finding a guide to take you to Nunavut?

  • @timkaczmarowski8151
    @timkaczmarowski8151 2 года назад

    You actually could have gotten to Nunavut by foot if you would have taken the road to James Bay out of Chisasibi and hiked a few km north before getting to the bay, the border meanders and is on the mainland at some locations.

      Th Pr LOL! Paula was pretty nervous at first as well, but we were assured that Patrick was as good of a boatman as they come. It was obvious that he knows the bay like the back of his hand, and our confidence in him eased our anxiety. Thanks for watching!
