    ADDITIONAL REVIEW NOTES:
These are the newest earbuds from Bose, but of the hundreds of earbuds I tested, I have never seen anything like these. I mean when I opened the box, I didn’t even know how to put them in my ears. I had so many questions with these. How do you wear them? Are they secure? Are they actually comfortable? Do they have ANC? What do they sound like?
So these are the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Open earbuds. The name tells us a lot about these earbuds. I want to go over these in order of the questions I had and maybe you have as well.
Let’s start off with Question #1 How do they go in your ears? (design tour)
    Aesthetics
#2 Comfort: I could definitely wear these all day - longer than other buds. They never get hot, and never cause ear canal fatigue. You forget they are there
    #3: Are they secure?
I ran with these and never adjusted them
You may need to adjust them at first to get the sound right…
    #4 Do they sound good?
Volume is surprisingly good. Open buds like this typically need to be cranked, but I like these and often listen below 50%. Sometimes even lower - probably healthier for your ears unless you are in loud environments
Snapdragon Sound should give you the high resolution codecs we like
    Large 12mm drivers
Clear, focused, clean bass that is not head shaking and thumpy, but still delivers. Much better than most other open earbuds honestly
Does not quite sound like the audio is in the room with you, but also not in your head like most buds. It is somewhere in between and I really like it
    Immersion mode (spatial audio)
    Typically I hate this
Very well executed here. Hearing your surroundings adds to it imo. It is quite convincing. I heard a siren in the background of a song and I looked over my left shoulder. I was shocked at how convincing this was
The drawback - the isolation is obviously weak. Loud sounds in your surroundings impact your experience.
    SOUND LEAK TEST
What should I compare these to? Get subscribed if you aren’t already.
    Do they have ANC?
    Mic test
    How do you control them?
    Buttons are simple and satisfying
Reliable when working out with wet hands, or in the cold
Customizable press and hold function (show the app)
    Battery life
7.5 hrs / 27 hrs (about half that with immersive audio on)
    Are they durable?
    IP rating = IPX4
    Auto play/payse =
2 colors = black and white smoke
Aesthetics? - kind of look like regular buds or an earring
    Case design
    Wireless charging = nope
    Mono mode = ?
    Bluetooth 5.3
    Multipoint connectivity = not really
    PROS
Great for biking when you need to hear surroundings but
Spatial audio works even better in my opinion. Almost too good
    No cleaning necessary
    Hygenic for sharing
    Ears never get hot
No interference with most glasses and jewelry, also easily repositionable
90 day warranty encourages anyone to test these out
    CONS
They obviously don’t block any surrounding sound
    No wireless charging
Requires two hands to put in your ears - right?
    Price - they are $299

Not being able to use one earbud at a time, for my personal usage style, is absolutely a deal breaker.
    Thanks for the thorough review.
    EDIT:
I’ve tried several times to post this update in the comment thread below but, for some reason (censorship??), it keeps getting deleted.
    I have an update!
As the original poster of this comment thread, after much contemplation & temptation, I have since taken a chance on these Ultra-Open earbuds and purchased them from Amazon on a 5-month, no-interest payment plan, however, while not perfect, I’m quite pleased with these Bose earbuds and I will be keeping them.
I can definitely confirm, after about 12 days of daily use, without a doubt, that these CAN be used one earbud at a time, without any issue. Even switching between my iPhone and iPad is easily accomplished with a ‘button press and hold’ shortcut on either earbud.
They sound great, they’re comfortable and the battery life is amazing, especially the fact that the standby time while wearing them without any audio playing is a whopping 48 hrs!
My limited mic-quality feedback from phone calls has not been favorable but that’s not my primary use for these buds.
Probably my biggest complaint is that the pause feature (while wearing one or both earbuds) fails to respond at least half the time, leaving me to use either my iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to initiate the pause function, which can be aggravating and really inconvenient.
Overall, these are unique enough, with adequate features that impress, that I’m personally able to overlook the minor complaints I have, which may or may not be the same opinion you have, if you try them.

I'm like you. I use one earbud all the time when my head is on a pillow. If I'm on my left side, I take it my left earbud and only use the right one.

They have a very cool dual axis ratcheting mechanism that allows you to precisely control where they sit in your ear, and are very comfortable. I tend to leave them in my ears all day and I experience zero fatigue. I would love you to include those in any open earbud comparison/shootout video!

Open ear "buds" (AKA: headphones) are sometimes called bone conducting, but they are not. Bone condition works quite well to transmit sounds, but it requires solid contact and more pressure than any headset or earphones would provide. I use an OpenEar Duet (sold under other names as well) for GPS navigation when driving my bus. It works quite well for that purpose, but the audio quality isn't good for music. (Very lacking in the lower frequencies) The microphone works well in a quiet room, but not so well in a noisy environment.

@@JConner1864I cannot really tell the difference between good headphones (on balance most quality/brand products are very similar in sound quality and good enough for me (and I suspect for Joe Average)). I think the fit in my ears and the comfort are far more noticeable than those small differences in sound-quality. That is where the LinkBuds shine, they fit my ear very well and are extremely light.
Additionally, I'm using open headphones for background music, to give me a rhythm when running and so on. Or, I use them at work for phone calls (then, I often have them in for a very long time). None of these applications need great sound-quality (and I would also not notice better quality).
I guess we are all different. Mike, seemed to be pretty hung up on not having wireless charging, whereas for me, that is a plus (personally, I would even prefer if the case would not hold a charge, for me, that is an unneeded additional battery).

the oladance OWS Pro are the best open earbuds for me. alghough they look like a hearing aid system, they are very comfy (i wear them all day long for work and biking) and usually forget that i have them on. they support multipoint bluetooth and have pretty good call quality aswell. a comparison to the bose and sony would be very nice to see!

I like these better than my Airpod Pros. These are the ultimate in comfort. Plus, I can wear glasses and my ear piercings are not affected. These are a good balance of trade offs and performance.

Really balanced review. I was hoping for you to test them in a rainy environment though.
Thank you for your take on them.
For me too.. the background sounds would not be that much a deal breaker if I already wanted the open design.
But for someone in India, paying that much money on this design.. where the flexi material/ rubber would eventually loose the functionality faster.. it is not as easy to spend that much.

I've got Samsung Buds 2, JBL Pro 4, Bose Quiet Comfort (prior version), Pixel Buds and lastly, Status Between Pro buds. I love them all for different reasons... but my favorite of all of them are the Samsung Buds 2. Quality, comfort (even against pillow at night for listening), discreetness etc...
Since you asked, might you compare against the Samsung Buds 2?

I own the Quiet Comfort II and while they sound awesome they irritate my ears after a short time wearing them. My ears end up itching and then they start weeping. This wetness eventually dries and I get crusty flaking. I know sounds weird but as I've read others have experienced the same issues with in ear earbuds as allergic reaction to the silicon ear piece. Since they don't sit in the ear canal I willing to give them a try especially with the 90 day try out to see if you like them. Thanks for the comprehensive review.

I have the same exact issue I have tried many different inner ear and all cause this problem. Shokz aren't a problem but I just ordered these they will be in tomorrow. After 20 mins of wearing them I will be able to tell you how my ears react. If I can wear them I will go to the Shokz Pro.

@@wheredidileaveit I’m glad I shared my issue publicly because several like yourself have come forward. I think we all suffer and think that this is the way all in ear buds are. I will say personally these are great. Don’t expect them to be noise cancelling because they don’t sit in the ear canal so these won’t block out loud ambient noise. However if you want the most comfortable ear buds these are the ones to buy. I sometimes forget I’m even wearing them. Despite not sitting in the ear canal they develop enough bass for me using the Bose app’s EQ. Good Luck.

@thelifeofhem So, how these Bose earphones? Do they cause the ear issue?

    • @thelifeofhem
      @thelifeofhem 15 дней назад +1

@enockheewonyoon1001 same issue but the part that goes behind the ear is silicone and within a 1hr my ear got raw and doing the same thing. Took a trip to Minnesota and back and used them for 4 days and they are great however I'm having to sell them cause I can't wear them and my ears got worse. I've never had this problem before and now these new types of headphones are causing it ugh. It's whatever they are using to make them. Cause my old Samsungs 1st Gen no issues.

I think these would be very uncomfortable when sleeping on your side, if they stay on your ear. The back side of the clip is a hard cylinder that would be pressed into the side of your head. But I’m pretty sure they would immediately get knocked loose by the pillow. They don’t fall out easily from movement but if anything touches them they’re easily dislodged

Conceptually these are actually normal earbuds (of which 12mm is actually really small to below avg for an earbud), what we colloquially call earbuds are are actually IEMs. The definition of an earbud had changed over time, but this is how the accurate use case would be.

I've moved on to bone conduction headsets (Creative), as I ended up chronically irritating my ear by putting audio tech in it, to the point I can't tolerate anything.
I might just use the bone conduction ones for sport and get these for everyday use. The price though...
The Sony LinkBuds were okay and good comfort wise. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live 'beans' were good (the ANC sort worked), but they also caused me intense irritation after a while.

This video had me sold to want to buy them, until you said two things. The price and no mono mode.
I normally only wear one earbud at a time for the reason of wanting to hear my surroundings. Sure, you can wear both and still be able to hear the surroundings, but I just like using one at a time. Plus when one earbud runs out of battery, I swap to the other one. Another thing is I normally use my wireless earbuds only at work. At home I use my wired ones because wired always has better sound and less delay than wireless earbuds (in my opinion). In my office I get coworkers calling me a cubicle or two away asking me questions and being able to listen to my surroundings better with these sounds amazing!
I personally don't care about wireless charging. I'm still very old school even though I'm in my late 20s.
Maybe if these are half off, I might consider them. Because everything else is selling me on wanting to buy them.
