Great content! I’m not entirely sure I believe it yet…. I’ll reserve judgement until I research this method. But I’m certainly intrigued and also pleased to see videos on this subject. If only a mechanic could now inspect the back of the inlet valves to see if they’re cleaner than before…. That would be proof.

Hi Paul, thanks for watching. I can see where you're coming from, but I did genuinely feel a difference in driving after it had been carried. They use to do a before and after, but because of the added cost (due to extra time required of course) they stopped doing it.

How do you know if you need carbon cleaning?

Good question! I can only guess that you’d use a bore scope to look at the back of the inlet valves?

The easy answer to this is every engine requires carbon cleaning (from 20k miles onwards and every 10-12k miles), as explained in the video its about prevention not cure. You take it as read that you must change your oil, no need to scope for that. Carbon in the internal combustion engine has been the bane of the industry since the engine wad designed, pre today's technology it was common place for enthusiasts to strip their own engines down and clean them manually. Unfortunately, with today's engine being much more complicated, high pressure, and with Emissions Systems in place this makes that impossible but also the build up is far worse so it's necessary to clean regularly. I hope that helps.

I wouldn't have thought carbon build-up would be as much of an issue as the engine in the MX-5 is port injection whereas the Leon is direct injection. Thanks for watching.
