With this steering system it'll be my 2nd upgrade... from my original i upgraded to the BERLEYPRO back in 2020... she's always leaked and I've changed gaskets on different occasions... now I'm going to upgrade to this latest system by BERLEYPRO... with the upgrade and new gaskets I'm hoping she stays dry...🤞
Thanks for making this video, only one out there worth a damn showing how to do this install. Question about your rudder though, how much movement does it have? Mine is roughly 35-45 degrees in each direction and I'm trying to figure out if that's too little and I have to do more work with the cords tension or what.
I have almost a full 90 degrees in each direction when steering. You may have to play with your adjustments you should be able to get more turning radius out of your boat. Glad we were able to help you !!
I have this exact same upgrade on my titan 12. I still have yet to upgrade the handle but honestly how much more turning were you able to get out of it. It doesn’t seem to much have more in the video.
No. The main purpose is comfort and grip for your hands compared to the stock handle that is more flush with the hull. The stock handle is uncomfortable for many people considering how close it is to the hull and this just gives better leverage for your hand. As well as generally smoother steering.
Maybe the video wasn’t very clear at 4:50. We flipped it when we ran the cords through so it looks crossed originally. But when we installed it it had to be flipped back over so nothing was being crossed. Just the way it worked for us
Have you had any water come up through the rudder shaft? Ive seen 2 gaskets being used with old rudder, but you can only get one on the boonedox. Thanks.
@@UntamedOutdoorsmen I have the same exact setup and tried using the stock rudder gasket with the Boonedox and couldn't make it fit so I went with no gasket. Havent taken it on the water yet so not sure how it'll be but I've never seen any other videos of using a gasket with the Boonedox so fingers crossed. I did run it by Native and they recommended the old Titan style of gaskets that are circular (no cross in middle) so I grabbed those and have them on stand-by if water starts leaking. Something to consider if that gasket fails on you.
Yeah🤷♂️ oh well. I like to think of it as like an upgrade to a cars suspension or engine upgrade. Would it work fine without the upgraded part? Yes. Can it function better or more efficiently with an upgraded part? Yes.
curious to see if you’ll have water leaking through the rudder hole. just took my boonedocks rudder off and went with the original due to the water leaking in through the rudder hole.
Brother, thank you so much for the videos you make. This is my first Kayak and i would be lost as to what to do without these videos. 🙏🏼🙌🏼☝🏼
Glad to help!
Really cool
This channel has a huge amount of potential, love the videos! Also how is your 9sv doing so far? after a bit of use
Love it. Great fish Finder comes with everything I’d ever need for kayak fishing.
Thanks for the comment!

It’s not designed to have more. It’s designed to have a better grip because it’s a raised handle compared to stock
@@UntamedOutdoorsmen so the upgraded handle will have better grip on the paracord?

so the cables go crossed inside the kayak, so they touch each other every time you turn? is that the correct way ?
They don’t touch at all inside. So yes this is the correct way
@@UntamedOutdoorsmen how they don't touch if they are crossing each other

Are you happy with steering upgrade
Absolutely thrilled

Not even a drop has come through since the new rudder. Its been awesome
@@UntamedOutdoorsmen wow. Im getting quite a bit. Using Native stock rudder gasket?
@@ddubbz1979 yes. One stock gasket on the BooneDox rudder with the BerleyPro steering system. Not sure how lol.
@@UntamedOutdoorsmen did you have any before upgrade?
@@ddubbz1979 we used 2 gaskets on the original rudder and that slowed down the leaks significantly but didn’t stop them.
Quick question brother, after the change do you still leak from the rutter area? Or did you do something else to eliminate leakage? Thank you chief
The leaking completely stopped after the new rudder system. Reused one original gasket on the rudder and not a drop has entered the deck.
Which gasket did you use around that boonedox rudder?
Reused the original gaskets

Interesting. We have extra rudder gaskets tho so we’ll have to see
