Hoarders ❤️ How I stopped Emotionally Eating | Weight Loss

  • I had noticed last year that I had replaced hoarding with emotionally eating. I thought how strange that I so quickly developed this new habit and I didn’t want it to be a rooted habit like my hoarding. I didn’t want to buy all new clothes as a recovering hoarder, I just wanted to fit in the clothing I already owned. I was emotionally eating junk food and none of that is good for my body in the long term. I found what worked for me to stop emotionally eating and wanted to share it with everyone. I’m not a doctor, nutritionist or therapist…but I am very self aware of my own emotions, triggers and behaviors.

I'm lying in bed, with another bad bout of depression. I'm both hoarding and emotionally eating, and I have always had severe social anxiety too. I'd love to be able to go out alone to walk and get exercise. You've given me hope, that I badly needed today. Thank you. Well done on how far you've come.

Honestly, your content is SO AMAZING, because it's incredibly realistic. So much of it is just recognizing bad coping mechanisms and replacing them slowly but surely with coping mechanisms that serve you positively. I don't deal with hoarding, but I do deal with poor coping mechanisms and I find your messages so inspiring and your weekly messages about self-compassion and giving yourself grace while learning better coping skills has really helped me. Happy new year! I hope 2023 brings you your biggest dreams yet! :D

Once school is back on Monday I can get back to the kids school routine. And your right small changes are the way to go. I’ve read atomic habits and I’m focusing on the little things, to get one small habit changed at a time. So far I’m 4 days without Diet Coke. And next week I’ll be adding the walking 15 Min a day. Thank you for this. (I have been watching your videos for a long time.) I have regained 25 pounds with emotional eating, so now I need to lose 50 pounds. I am 68. No one has ever suggested that I have ADHD, but I still think your strategies will help. I never thought about chewing gum in the evenings while I read. That might actually help. I also plan to get back to doing my 10,000 steps a day, which helped me lose 40 pounds in 2020. The diet advice by diet gurus rarely addresses the emotional component of eating. I fell off my diet because I got angry about something.

I am so happy this worked out for you ❣️🎊🎉🍾✨️👏
These specific strategies worked for me about 25 years ago.
I have tryed expected for the fidget toys, and not much has changed. One of the specialist has prohibited exercises, but I don't listen, and I do the walking. I have not lost any weight, but I have STOP Gaining it as fast as I was due to medications (2 lbs instead of 10 lbs per year). I tryed intermitente fasting and mod-keto. It was great but expensive. The fasting was not expensive though. Both help reset my hormones for a little while. Then, I went back to eating tortillas, rice and beans, and that in NOT KETO but part of my regular diet as a Mexican.

Even if we don't declutter a single item or shed a single pound, we can make our lives so much better by deciding that we deserve to be happy and love who we already are. I gained 40% of my original body weight in 18 months, so it took a while to slow that and eventually stop it. I'm really proud to say I've been really stable just below my max weight for 6 months now and I've kicked my worst habit. Now I just need to move more and eat a little better. It's nice to see results with slow consistent work vs going to the gym for an hour 3 times a week and eating restrictively.

It’s the little switch’s that really add up, like water instead of soda, my favorite is spinach instead of lettuce or always having a veggie on our dinner plate no matter the meal, pizza and everything 😂 I’ve seen people leave veggie trays out and the whole family start snacking on it too 😊

Many people find good nutrition lessens their anxiety and depression, also if you take up a class that is helping with your anxiety( which causes hoarding in the first place) and investing in experiences not things. I thought this video gave many examples of healthy habits that replace not only emotional eating but also hoarding!

I still eat but I cut the amount of snacks I have to use a few instead of so much that I felt guilty and then the weight made me feel low. I’m dealing with the grief of losing my dad last year. So hard to not eat. I’ve had people ask me if I’m pregnant which is rude. I know you can do this one step at a time

Chewing gum and playing with fidgets while watching TV is genius. I so often eat while watching stuff just to kind of help me focus even though I'm not hungry (I'm autistic and have ADHD and I need the sensory input). It hadn't even occurred to me to use gum instead.

Yesssss!!!! I need some type of stimulation so I can focus!! I am diagnosed with ADHD but sometimes wonder if I fall on the autism spectrum myself. My oldest son is on the spectrum too 💙💙💙
