I saw Doll BY Doll in London and Paris, and followed Jackie's career through every solo album. Doll By Doll were one of the most electrifying live bands EVER! I never saw Jackie as a solo performer--he played in the States (where I now live) very little. His solo music meant more to me than I can ever express in words, though I tried--especially writing about some of the later albums at allmusic dot com.--but his talent, and his presence were mercurial, beyond language. thanks for posting.
'The neon universe was winking to an end'. A rarely successful mix of poetry and rock, and one of the best eighties tracks there is. Leven was really on a roll.
Just love this song. It was recorded while they were signed to Automatic, which was a WEA lable, run by a guy called Nick Mobbs, who had originaly signed the Sex Pistols to EMI. In a strange twist of fate, DBD were released from Automatic to make way for the band that I played in at the time called The Classics. Listening to the song 20 years later it makes me feel like a fraud. Not that we were in any way bad, but this is beautiful. Sweet dreams Jackie.
Many great memories of seing jackie live but sad to say I never saw DBD but as mentioned in an earlier comment, he was always on a Roll.... It makes you think how fragile all our lives are but his sense of fun always allows me to step back enough to not get too sad but i was very pist off and upset when you left us. You had a lot more to give big man.... God speed.
Still missing his live shows and am trapped in a cycle of listening to his great musical past be it solo or DBD. Stripshow shows off his vocal range so well.

Incredible story
Great song, great singer-songwriter, will be truly missed
Still playing Jackie, Still pissed he's gone, Still got a broken hearted a year on... What a voice and what a man!
Cool. Thanks for posting. Just discovered this band and album while reading a '79 copy of Sounds. Interesting.
This song seems never to date, nor tarnish. Saw the band live a few times near 30 years ago, a treasure then as in memory now.
RIP Jackie, keep on singing mate, we'll miss ya!
