The first time I played I didn't even get to see this mission because I skipped it straight to play with a friend and have him teach me, but I finally see what it was like.
I actually failed the this mission and nearly rage quit the game. lol It took me a *_stupid long time_* to find the gold, compacted dirt, and morkite. It seems really obvious looking at this video in retrospect now, but I got the impression "You can search anywhere!" so... I decided to go in a direction other than what I guess was the correct way. Dude, I dug the longest tunnels by hand-winding up, down, and all around-until I hit bedrock. Tried to backtrack, got lost several times, accidently stumbled across gold (felt stupid because I recognized it as being near the beginning), then had trouble locating the dirt and later the morkite. I spent _well_ over an hour here (and my first "real mission" was to mine morkite... and that took me 2 hours), just to die to the enemies. I had a very, very rough start to this game to say the least. I actually really like the game now and have been playing several hours daily, but to be able to play with a particular friend is literally the only reason I didn't immediately slam dunk this game in the trash in rage at the time. haha
I had previously played the game (very lightly) on Steam probably in 2018 or 2019 when it was in early access so I had a better idea of what the game is like than most people would starting it first time on PlayStation in 2022 :) I think it is a really good fit for fans of Helldivers co-op endless play potential through procedurally generated choose your challenge missions. Since my PS friends have gotten into it at same time due to PS+ free, I expect we will be playing 100's of hours of this game even as other games come out that grab my attention.
@@cusman Same. A ton of Helldivers on my Steam friends list already play (many of whom have been playing for a long time-I'm just late to the party). Like you (I saw another comment by you), this game was actually gifted to me by one of them. Took 6 months and another friend to get me to actually get into it, but now I've already broken my first 100 hours. Now my mission is to actually get good and stop getting lost trying to get back to the escape pod (the bane of my existence currently). haha
@@lein5300 Getting back to Escape Pod is where we wiped yesterday on what would have been our 4th Hazard 4 mission in a row. It landed somewhere high-up that we didn't have an established path for and the bugs were relentless with their spawns blocking our Escape attempt. It was a mix of excitement and disappointment, but we just dove right back in to continue the assignment. Looking forward to eventually start playing Hazard Level 5 and Deep Dives. Edit: Will try and be on Steam one of these weekend mornings and maybe we will do some DRG together on Steam if I catch you online. Rock & Stone!
@@cusman lol Yeah man, the anxiety from trying to escape can be real sometimes. haha One time during an escape I had to be rescued twice and we made it back with I think 2 seconds left on the clock. It was one of those long vertical shafts in a lava level (i.e. hell simulator). Sounds good. _Rock and stone in the heart!_
Im currently rank 363, over 1k hours clocked and this is the first I'm seeing the tutorial mission beyond the first room. Guess that's what I get for immediately quitting to go play multiplayer.
I honestly thought the first comment I got thanking me for uploading Tutorial was being sarcastic, but with so many views and other comments, it is more clear to me that many people trying out this game for first time can genuinely struggle with getting through it because the game is unlike anything they have played before and the tutorial leaves a lot to the player to figure out for themselves.
@@cusman I was so lost in the tutorial. I couldn't find the gold to mine. I ended digging an deep hole, got stuck and spent a ton of time trying to get out of the hole lol. I had a good laugh at myself. Thanks for the help
@@ThoughtGum Stories like yours is why I think the Tutorial should have used the Driller class because even if you go in wrong direction, it isn't very time confusing to bore through tunnels and once you start using the map, you can even just drill straight to destination instead of retracing your path back to get back on course. Glad to hear you laughed it off and kept with the game. It is worth getting past the learning curve.
Mission control: alert defense barrier breached, incoming swarm coning to you. Well thats it then, been a pleasure working with you, miner. Me, a level 47 honor guard: you dare challenge me in my own domaine.
Thanks for making this - I've gotten the game for quite a few people this week and it's nice to be able to see what the mission is that they have to do! I don't think this existed when I started playing so it's hard to explain to them when I haven't done it myself. Also found it hilarious that you walk through the entire mission because the tutorial is so bad that it doesn't ever mention you can sprint xD
There is a lot to learn because this game is such a unique game design, but it is well worth it. Since getting the game as part of PS+ free in January along with some friends, we are probably playing 20+ hours of it together each week and no signs of slowing down.
I knew you would play Deep Rock Galactic!! heheheh It is like a Helldivers but "rpg" and in first person cam. I see that you have uploaded several videos already, keep it up! I've been playing more than 400 hours on Steam xD
One of my Helldivers friends on Steam gifted me Deep Rock Galactic back in 2018 because he was sure I would love it. I did try it back then but didn't stick with it more than trying it out because I was splitting my playtime between more of Helldivers and trying out various VR games. Looking at it now, I have 16 friends on Steam still playing DRG and close to 40 that have played it previously. So definitely a lot of overlap between Helldivers fans and DRG. Even the friends I am playing DRG with on PS5 are ones from my days playing Helldivers (on PS3/PS4). On plus side, the developers kept busy adding content and polish to the game. It didn't even have achievements when I had played it back in 2018 and I think it didn't have controller support either. They have done a good job of mapping to controller on the PS5 release.
@@cusman In fact, the game came out on console and PC gamepass a few years ago, and on steam I play it many times with an xbox controller, so the mapping to ps4/5 would have been easy, I think. In my opinion, if you spend a few more hours with it, you will end up loving it as much as I do. You have also encouraged me to upload to "my youtube channel" some matches that I had recorded xD
@@lefter8 I looked and it didn't release for Xbox until it came out of Early Access in 2020. I am sure they had controller support added for PC well ahead of that. I can't remember for sure, but there is a good chance that controller support in 2018 was either not present or not as well implemented as it is today. The game is good fun. This tutorial play through isn't indicative of how interesting the game is to play with friends who find the freshness of the game design intriguing. The developers of this game are definitely fans of and even inspired by Helldivers design elements but they have made their own unique game that is unlike anything else and is very polished in its current state compared to what I very vaguely remember from 2018 Early Access. I'll visit your channel to check your DRG game play.
@@cusman Oh I didn't know, I do remember that it was in early access but not that button mapping was not implemented. Good thing they did! IMHO this game is worth the learning curve and you will start to see that once you get past the tutorial which I agree is not great but it does cover the basics one needs to know getting started. The game is good co-op fun when you start on a team of Green Beards (what the game calls new players) and go through a number of map types and mission types together. By the time you complete that first introductory assignment, you will be ready for higher difficulties and that is when I think the game really starts to shine on how exciting and rewarding it is to play. More games should allow skipping the tutorial, especially if co-op and then a friend can show you the ropes better than any tutorial does.
