A little cool but had to get out of the cabin :) Come along for a little adventure in the woods ! Firewood , Trails &Tracks :) Thanks so much for all the support !
They won't bother you unless you run ! I've had more than one stare down at 50 yards , They don't like peoples voices or hand claps, Always see then when you don't have a gun, I hate packing when I'm out getting wood to easy to bang it around but do pack a 22 sometimes,
@littlegriffoffgridalberta6837 sounds like our coyotes. They will come all around me at night at the cabin, but when I beat on the cast iron pan, they get quiet.
Just catching up, I like the trails you drive, the wolf pack was sure leaving some nice prints for tracking, ganging up on the big game I see. I like the tamarack, we had them back east more with the black spruce wet lands, since we had no cedar, I liked using the full tree for skids to make a bridge over the creek on the woodlot, they lasted a long long time. Enjoyed watching, thank you for sharing
I've watched some of Noel's videos because I like old garden tractors. Like you, he benefits from the usefulness of older machines. I too find them to be very capable tools. They have their place, limits but get the work done. As you've stated, the low gearing in your skidoo is specific to your needs and is a prime example of the point I'm making.
Yes just having the time to putter on those things, they might be old but very useful that's why we keep them around :)) Noel has some cool projects there ! Glad you enjoyed "
Definitely a great wood to keep a good fire going in the cabin when it's cold, Got another nice load today straight to the wood box :)) We are suppose to be warm for 4 days then back to the -30c for next week, Thanks for the comment"
Glad you liked it! It's hard to beat the feel of fresh air, even when it's cold in the woods it's just a different felling ! I cut wood in the open on calm sunny day & stay sheltered from the winds in the thick, it's great other than the odd lump of snow that goes down your neck once in a while, I'm never much for hoods they just block my view & my hearing if trees are cracking things like that, Hopefully you get a chance to check out some of the differences last year to this ! Thanks for the comment"
I love the variety that comes with living in the bush. You new to my channel ? If you see what how & why through out my videos :) Just my life & things I do that work for me :) I stay ahead so I never feel like I have to cut wood I do it when I want to then it's all fun even when it's a little on the cool side ! As I learn each year gets a little easier :) Thanks for the comment I'm sure you will enjoy some of my others ! Have an awesome evening"
Ya as long as your moving -20c is good weather for cutting your gloves don't get wet like at -5c the now sticks to everything ! Thanks for the comment"
Another beautiful skidoo trip through the gorgeous sun kissed trail 😊❤Amazing! ❤❤ Always love seeing you top up the firewood cache 🙌 Wow ! That’s a lot of wolves 😬 hopefully they don’t come in too close to your cabin. Thanks for sharing another great video 😊 Take care Don , stay safe and warm. Have a terrific week ❤🌻🌻
Thanks :) I love the little changes every day that I go out or new tracks, There is a lot of different animals out here :) Yes that pack is split, last year there was 13 in the pack when I seen them in one spot but to far away to shoot, They were still half a mile from my cabin just following the moose, But if they are really hungry they get brave & come in after peoples dogs, Take care have a great week"
Stay safe , always be mindful of the predators around you, especially for Ginger ❤️ The coyotes and wolves are highly intelligent and unpredictable. Take care Don , enjoy your week ❤️🌻🌻
Glad you found something interesting in there! It's all about caring & sharing we all do things a little different :) I have lots more videos to check out!
Yes, the trails are in good shape for now, hopefully for a while, But sounds like another dump coming in a couple days, ya pack gets to big & split every couple years the girl start wanting to be boss & Mom kicks them out !! Them 8 will split & have two more packs with 6 in each next year, Hope you snow don't all melt with this heat wave, Nice two more days here then back in the -30c range for three then warmer again, Take care chat later"
Definitely a big wolf, hopefully ya dont run into him without a rifle on hand. Good to see someones getting some work done! Im getting my wisdom teeth removed tuesday so it wont be me for a bit still 😂 stay warm and be safe my friend
Howdy Don- wow! Those are some big wolf tracks. Don’t see many wolves down here but the coyotes are thick as fleas. Two can sound like a lot of them. I could sure use a snowmobile for a few days till this stuff melts off. Take care and God bless
Yes a couple of big ones for sure ! Moisture is good even if it's in the white form :) Sure don't want to be burning up like L.A , Ya nice to have if you get to ride a little each year but if you don't get snow it would rust away in the shed ! Thanks for the comment"
Ya that's the worst! I've been there before, the only thing worse is having it break down in the middle of nowhere lol ! I try to keep two so i have a spare :) Glad you enjoyed take care"
Good morning Don! We had an old 1973 TNT 340 that was really lightweight. It was great for making trails. It just floated over everything. Love seeing the woods again on your videos. Those wolf tracks are big!!!! Have a great day!
I had a 74 TNT that had metal cleats across the track, they would dig you didn't get stuck very often :) Glad you enjoy the trails, winter is just a lot of wood cutting with a few little project & some reviews :) To cold for building projects, Thanks for the comments Ron"
👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks Don for the shout out. 👍🏻👍🏻 Ya, big wolf paws, seen tracks like that here once. Was half the length of my boot and the same width. But no wolves here, so must of been a coyote. And it must of been running. Quite a space in between paw jumps. Looks like a nice day there for sure. Tundra looks like it’s working great. Thank for the explaination on different types of snowmobiles good for the bush. 👍🏻 Must not be any snowmobile police there, ya went right thru the Stop sign. 🤭🤭🤭🤭. But ya did slow down. 🤭 Have a great Sunday Don. And thanks again for the stout out. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋🪵🪵🪓🪓🔥🔥
Don you have WAY too much fun my friend, you are living a great life. One of these days I am going to come visit you on the homestead, I miss making firewood for our home. I’ll bring my little DeWalt 20V Max chainsaw to help you delimb trees 😎.
Good morning Don sometimes you just gotta get out of the cabin and get some fresh air. I sure hope that moose makes it. Those wolves are pretty darn big according to the tracks stay safe, my friend.
Yes a couple days of cold then I gotta go lol ! Ya four moose & a pack of wolves probably going only be three this week :( them wolves will take the week or to slow, Have a good one stay warm"
Good morning Don, love the videos!!! It’s funny we got a lot of snow here in northern Ont , and I’ve noticed that our moose too have really started to use my sled trails as well!!!! Let’s face it ……. Path of least resistance!!!!!! Take care eh!!!!!!
Your in the nice part of the country where you have snow most of the winter that's awesome ! Yes the moose & deer love my trails :) As the snow gets deeper I love my trails I have made because if it get to deep won't be making new ones, Have a good afternoon"
We had a bush quarter with 40 acres open on it along a creek. We took a lot of tamarack of there. That's where the bombardier shined. We would bring a couple of them or pull in a trailer and buck up half a dozen cords. Plus made a few fence posts. Snow wasn't a problem.
Yes choosing where you live if your gas supply is close by it's awesome ! When you have a tool like a little bombi you look after it & always find many great uses :) Yes years ago we use to make some posts too, My back likes the little loads with a break between lol :) When i go with a truck you still want to fill it before you go home then suffer for three days ! Have a great afternoon"
Donny the old bombardier sure make beautiful snowmobile trails into the wood 🪵 yard . Them swamp donkeys like 👍 easy walking 🚶♂️ in the bushes in the winter months Donny . A little every day go along way the falling winter 🥶 months in 2025 Don . Remember your better looking at it them looking for it in coming spring went come to firewood 🪵 buddy . Great 👍 video 😊
Yes you have to stay on top of the wood in the winter or it will be a lot of work in the spring! I don't like cutting when the bugs are out, That's time for fishing :)) Thanks for watching and your comment.
Hi Don! You guys call it tamarack , we call it juniper. lol. A few snares for those wolves would be on my list of things to do. Anything to try and help the moose. You don’t have elk in that part of Alberta? On my bucket list is I want to be in a spot when I wake up in the morning , I’d be hearing the elk while drinking my morning coffee.
If it was my trapline i would have snares out but not my line, It is only legal for me to shoot if i see them but not trap, Yes we are starting to have more Elk in the area the last few years :) Elk love the river hills & I'm not close to the rivers here the nearest 5 miles away, I did see a couple last fall not far from my hunting spot :) Maybe there will be more in a couple yeas ! Have a great afternoon"
Good morning dom thank the lord for giving you another beautiful day. Your like me we just have to get outside to enjoy every day watch out for them wolves they will torment that moose 🫎
Yes do what we can :) Four moose but if they push them & find a week one he will be lunch for them ! Some times i pack a gun &b it's legal for me to shoot them but I can't set traps on someone else line, Crazy weather warm one day cold for two then warm for two then cold again, We suppose to have +2c the first of the week then back to highs of -22 for next weekend ! Thanks for the comment
Ya crazy weather for crazy times. Hey don if you would like a knife I would be happy to make something for you hunting or kitchen let me know have a good evening
Take what we get we can't change it ! Ya they are very nice knives :) I won't be hunting until next fall now but a nice little skinning knife that you can peel potatoes with would be awesome :)) Big knives are to hard on my wrists, Thanks for watching"
Thanks for checking out my channel ! It just follows my 100% off grid live the last few years Work, Fishing, milling, building, gardening & more :) Just ones life in northern Alberta ! Yes I cut about half spruce & half Tamarack :) I try to fill the wood box with Tamarack just as we are getting a cold snap, Lots of heat & I have a good stove I have to keep windows open until we are well into the -30c range & I get a 12hr burn so even at -50c last winter T-shirt & long john's is all you need lol :) Thanks for the comment hope you enjoy! Oh I have to say that old tractor looks like the one I learnt on W6 McCormick ?
Ya if it was my trapline i would have plenty of snares out, But it's not my line, The guy that own's it don't even trap it but no one else can unless he says they can,
Get your trapping course done and see if you can sign onto his line. Iam a junior trapper on an another guys line, no high trapline prices involved then. 👌🏻
Well winter here is a lot of wood cutting :) Tips how & what I use, My summer videos are a lot different with milling, building, camping road trips :) jump back skip a little wood cutting & check out some of those :) Winter weather tells me what I can do & what I can't, Thanks for the comment"
@ it was not meant to be negative it just means i want to see more by the way i am moving out of Alberta to alaska off grid and plan to start my very own channel starting august
Not a problem I didn't really take it the wrong way some people just like the videos more with little project & I have lots of them :) Most videos either show or some explain a little more than others Tips that worked for me & might help others :) Yes if i was a little younger i would be in the Yukon or Alaska, Both very beautiful but have there own challenges :) but we get enough cold here that 6 months of winter is enough lol :) Great channel name, "Alberta to Alaska off grid homestead" Hope your able to start getting some footage of the prepping for the move, I hope my videos help ! The firewood you cut is from public land? The rule is no cutting live trees? I live in NY State. If I cut on public land I'd be thrown in jail.
Yes public land, We just get a permit that is free to cut dry wood only, If we want green it's red tape paper work & $$$
