- A mechanized targa top from the 90's!
Honda made this weird rare option for Euro and Japanese market Del Sol sports cars in 1992.
Here it is in action, captured during the 2022 Radwood SoCal car show.

Lol someone at honda literally looked at the cd changer and was like OMG I GOT AN IDEA!
😆
They don’t make ‘em like this anymore 😢😢😢❤
😔😔😔 the greatest convertible ever made, next to the Chrysler sebring
@@elansleazebaganno Chrysler Sebring? You're kidding, right? I hope you are lol.
The dog was the best part
Heheh, my wife shot that last bit and I'm glad she did!
I heard Trans Top and all I could think about was that strange weekend where I found my dad and his, um, Dennis Topper...
😂
I thought it read " Trans Cop In Action"
😆
Wish they had this when I had my 93. Spent many hours cruising the back roads of NH and northern MA. Even up to Swans Island ME.❤
I think it might only be in Japan? His is rhd so thats what I'm guessing. I want a del sol so bad.
@@Gameboy-Unboxingseverywhere except America
Those wheels are EXPENSIVE!!
MUGEN wheels
I had a blue SIR delsol with this roof wish I never sold it ,it was a fabulous car😢
Freaking awesome Brad!
So lucky to see this!
Thanks for posting this Retro, was nice meeting you. I'll have something cool for the next event that you've never seen before.
Same! Looking forward to it.
I remember when this was a thing and del sol owners were winnin
Had a Red one with 1.5ltr engine and Trans Top. Bought it cheap as top didn't work, so downloaded service manual for roof and after 3 hours fixed it. Fantastic little fun car with cheap motoring 😊
Nice fix!
Pretty dang cool but I can imagine it would cost a ton of money to fix if it malfunctions
Better than tearing a BMW engine bay apart bc your door made a scary sound.
@@kenshinbattousai374 🤣
It is designed for DIY unlike today's cars so it is possible to do fix economically.
Working examples will not be alive today over 30 years later if they broke all the time and cost a ton to fix.
That is a myth just as the same comments are said with the 88-91 Prelude 4ws. They were solid state and no computers so NEVER broke. Those saying they broke all the time and expensive to fix NEVER owned one.
Imagine that thing malfunctions in the rain 💀
😅😅
Bad site, that thing is heavy asl too don’t think you will own a fast del sol with a heavy ahh trans top 😅
Bro i showed this to my brother and when the dog appeared we instantly said: "What the dog doin"
😂
A thing of beauty! 🤩
Especially that BONUS PUPPY
That top folds down faster than that DelSol runs the 1/4 💀
That is tight for reals though 💯
Thats cold
Team hybrid been around since Kosoku was they have some of the baddest mods if seen
“Hold up guys I just got to put my top down”
* 20 minutes later
“Where did the car meet go ?”
😂
True, BUT you didn't have to put any effort into it beyond flicking a few switches!
Amazing
Cool! Do they make those aftermarket for C4 Corvette’s as well?
Not that I’ve ever seen! Would be super hard for the C4 because the targa is bolted in.
I heard because of the weight from the convertible system it handles better than a normal del sol
I could imagine it would help weight distribution (making the car less nose heavy) but I can’t imagine the overall added weight is a net positive.
Such a cool feature, especially for the year.
I love the del sol but after watching this video imagine it started raining and u have to wait five years for the hard top to cover you 😂
Heh, well this was a rare option. I’ve dealt with the normal Del Sol, and the “manual” targa really is quicker. Just not as cool as this!
@@RetroCarsForever I figured cuz I remember seeing other vids of del sol taking the hard top quicker and I was like why this one takes longer than usual 😂
@@RetroCarsForever still cool asf honestly I never understood why people hate on this car it’s like a civic but classy and sporty
Amazing!
that was a thing in the 90s and now days surprice
Had one aswel, swapped chassis and it became so much lighter in weight😂
Swapped chassis??
I got the same question for you swapped chassis
Del Sol that identifies as a Porsche Carrera.
it’s called a targa topppp
How I can make my sol electric targa top removable
Do you have the top featured in this video?
Rather unique cause it's not like a Merc SLK.
Yeah, its not your typical "folding" power hardtop at all! Its more like a robotic "assistant" to help you remove and stow your Targa top.
Thats the coolest thing ever
Lol i wanna do this with my 95 i have to fix the front end tho i smashed it into to some dumbass in the rain that was at a complete stop at a yellow light
People that hard stop at yellows with ample time causes so many fkin crashes
engineers be 🍳
cool
what wing is that?
Mugen
It's for the first gen teans people 😂😂
❤❤
This is cool because I’m lazy, but I’m also impatient and this shit took 87 business days… would never use that feature
Heh, as cool as this feature is, I feel like doing it yourself would be faster! Maybe that's why it didn't really catch on.
I heard these things weigh a ton and aren’t worth it on small sporty car like this, sacrifices too much performance.
I'm sure this whole system added a few hundred pounds, but to be fair, the Del Sol was less about raw performance and more about chic open air cruising (remember, it was FWD instead of RWD).
@@RetroCarsForever This is true, definitely more of a "spirited driver" type of car at best.
No way the top is suicidal
Just duck! 😂
Only optioned on 42% of JDM models
@@Kowalskithegreatmine havs the transtop
1 hour later. Lol
😅😂
I don’t think i can fit in that car😢
They’re surprisingly roomy. The owner was not a small dude!
I am 6'5" 210Lbs and Absolutely Fit and Loved my 95 DelSol.
I'm 6'3" and I can fit amd drive comfortably. I do not, however, fit into an mr2
I'm 6'1 and fit comfortably in my 95 del Sol sad to say though I no longer have it lost are house to a tornado a year had no where to store it so I had to sell it was in the middle of restoring it and just did have the money to finish it or store it properly and I regret having to sell it that was just as a sad day as losing my home
Very progressive
It.cant be a 92 they were only made from 93 to 95
They made these in 1992 as well...carsandbids.com/auctions/9QzY8ePE/1992-honda-cr-x-del-sol-sir-transtop
93 in the USA, 92 everywhere else
Omg finally someone showed the whole video, i seen so many showing the hood come off and it glides and floats in the back, and im like am i the only person who is questioning this, did yall just miss this witch craft, alien technology, area 51 looking ass roof? Lmfao
Exactly why I wanted to film the entire process!
Please re name this
To what? Why?
Just wait till any of 1000 points of failure pops its ugly head!!!
Probably why this didn't catch on! But cool to see when it works.
Is it possible to put one in a 93 del sol
Not easily! A lot of rare hardware to make this work.
