  • It is the 5th of April, 2024, and we got another April snow storm. Another 2 inches of that Stuff No One Wants fell on the railroad. If I see that woodchuck, he'd better watch out!

Perhaps you could put the tiny plow on the engine not attached to the plow? This way you can push away snow while backing up to charge into a large drift

Hanging off the front of the plow gives me a very unsettling feeling. I think it’s because I can’t see my impending doom.

A pilot made of boiler plate steel would be ideal for both ends of 70 & 71, and rerailing itself is something the real railroads need to work on.

I do have skid plates. They are in a bucket in the shop. Not very helpful, I know.

    Self rerailing 👍
A steel plate pilots will add more weight and diminush damages.

Heavy snow makes trees, and branches brake. "My" veteran railroad got 11 tress down because of heavy snow. The week before strong wind fell a number of trees...
When You drive the train into the snow covered branches.....
    Brutal rerailing at time 07:00.

I'm guessing some track maintenance once the weather clears 😊

I keep seeing the snow pile up on the cloud and I wanted to suggest that you get a rag soaked with diesel and you essentially wipe that rag over your plow so that the snow does not stick to the plow

Snow doesn't tend to stick to the plow. It sits there by gravity, adding weight to the front of the blade. The shallow angle makes it easier to push.

Ohhhhhh, dang!, thats some hard-pack wet snow! At least you didnt throw the snowballs at the camera like @WWOT does! And you have the best version of dealing with "Technical Difficulties" 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣😵😨😱❗

I wish I had the land and space I could build a rail set like this .
I’ve been looking around my area for a 7 1/4” rail road , there used to be a few up here in Ontario Canada. And a fella that used to bring set to a Steam show every year In Milton Ontario that he would set up a little track area and offer rides . Up until the insurance nerds said no more . I miss that ride every year as a kid .35 + years ago now
Tempted to Buy a loco from Aaron . Set up a small track in my basement . Very short point to point 😅 but I would love to travel a little with a loco and a gondola for the wife and kid and visit other rail yards and or events if I could .

Most people don't have their own track, but they run at club and private track meets. One engine and a car or two is also very common. This is a working man's hobby.

oh my that derailment did some really bad damage! especially when it is the new unit!
sorry about your chickens! have you reinforced the pen ? could you determine how they got in?
or was it when they were out? take care, be safe and wishes for a great day!

I was thinking. Would some type of suspension or a slight pivoting capability fot the wheels and axles just enough not to stress the drive chain, help the locos from derailing? Their bolted on a stiff frame.

The axles float on springs. If the gauge were more stable, the trains wouldn't derail so often.
