Got my songmaker kit a few weeks ago. Coming from a piano background I really didn't know what I was doing but just loved the expression get from this device! Thanks for making some amazing content! Keep it up! Simple guides like this help so much.
That was so cool to learn on GarageBand! Thank you for keeping it easy to follow. Totally look forward to each new video especially about NI & ROLI integration.
Your videos have improved a lot since you started! Good work. It’s great to see someone working on making their videos better and better because low video quality is a huge deterrent for growing your subscriber base.
@@SanjayC I am absolutely in love with it. Wow. Quick question which I'm happy to shoot to Roli support just thought you might have a fast answer. With the Equator add-on (and by the way I don't see those extra sounds you have, mine are more limited?) - once active I get the message it's expecting input from channels 2 to 16, and the block is on 1. How can I either get the seaboard block to 2 (currently the pad) or ensure it receives from 1 as well?
@@SanjayC thanks that worked! Now, how do I install that sounds of India pack? It downloads as ROLI Equator Colours of India.mpkg.zip cpgz - no-where on the Roli pages can I see where to put that as I assume that's what needs to happen.
Dude, your videos own. This is a fantastic tutorial, lays everything out really cleanly and is respectful of a viewer's time. You've definitely sold me on wanting to pick up some of this ROLI gear next year too.
I haven't had a home studio in a long time, but remember loving the relaxing feeling of making music. I enjoyed watching this and am heading to Apple to get it.
I am from a guitar background and move around a lot as am an engineer .. this would really suit me as i love making music as well (even though i lack skills for now) ..
I’m curious how well it works with GarageBand for iOS. I know that GB has MPE support, but all the things you’re doing with the Lightpad and Loop Block will also work with the iOS version.
Great tutorial! Best I´ve seen of the Roli Blocks. Mine arrives today btw :-) A little curious to see what´s happening when I add more than 4 tracks to the project (?)

Love your content Sanjay! Did you do a separate screen + audio recording of garageband in order to edit this video? I am a bit unfamiliar with DAWs and don't know if there is a way to set up a looping performance beforehand, in order to easily sync it up with a recorded video. It seems as though exporting the track from garageband will give you the 4 bar loop with all instrument sounds, and modifying it by doing a lot of copy paste to have a 2-3 minute project seems very cumbersome...
Wow that was a really great tutorial! Really easy to understand:) I would have loved to be able to use your tutorial in someway but I don’t have the beatmaker kit nor GarageBand rip;P And now you can use the beatmaker kit AND your other seaboard:D!!
That is bloody interesting! Thank you. Mind I ask Your opinion on a subject? For the last 1.5 years i collected some rare acoustic and wind old-time instruments and learned myself some sound extraction from these (turkish saz, jaw harps, shakuhachi flute, tin whistle). All these "interfaces" activate different motoric skills of humans body, and really take some time to develop. I practiced those one by one. But recently i discovered that Garageband app on my Mac, and combined with average USB condenser mic... It just blew my mind what it can do. Now suddenly I can record with "studio" quality in my room and combine all my instruments simultaneously, and alter their sounding at my will. Creating actual compositions. And all this by not knowing music theory etc, only RUclips. Not to mention looping, drum kitting and etc. All those thing of digital music production is a brave new world for me. This is already an overwhelming concept. And now Roli.. Do you agree with me that maybe combining 50/50: an "ancient way" of interfacing and extracting sound from acoustic and wind instruments and then combining and postprocessing the tunes in digital media is the MIDDLE GROUND. I feel that Roli universe is like going digital 100%, its capabilities will might make it hard to come back from.. Though it is a way more efficient world.. My sound extraction capabilities on real instruments are pretty limited given the fact of me beeing non pro hobby guy, i feel like i am missing out by spending energy-time-effort on too many "manual" things.. While Roli requires mastering only a "pressing key concept" as interface - and then giving interface to HUNDREDS of instrument simulations, and complex layered algorithm instruments.. How mature is this technology anyways? Am I stuck with rudimentary concepts and basically shooting myself in a knee on each step by not taking advantage of modern tech? I Can it really substitute the depth of real instruments, or the sound algorithms are not "really" there yet to fool a human ear? Is it theoretically better for evolving a general musical prowess? Thanks!
Great that you discovered GarageBand and recording with it! The ROLI instruments are amazing for sure. If you're mixing the ROLI sounds (or any virtual/software instrument sound) into a full song with multiple tracks, you probably won't be able to tell that the sounds are "digital." Its THAT good! But there is not software (yet) that can replace the sounds of real acoustic instruments. Its not so much the sound wave itself, its the sounds and feeling around that soundwave. For example, when you're playing a flute, there is much more than the tone sound wave that most people associate with it. There is breath, there are imperfections, there is the unique character of your specific flute. That cannot be replicated by software or digital devices. Taking all this into consideration, I believe the best approach is a hybrid between the two. I use this technique sometimes. I love the sound of a Rhodes electric piano and although software replicates its sound very well, nothing compares to my original 1975 Rhodes piano. And that's due to the additional sounds you hear from it. The sound of the hammers inside the piano, the imperfections in tuning and wear and tear over the decades. This is unique to MY Rhodes and cannot be replicated. You will sacrifice speed if you use acoustic instruments, but you need to know when its worth the sacrifice and when you can make do with software or digital devices instead. I would choose to use the acoustic instrument when that instrument is the focus of the song. The supporting/background instruments can be digital. That's my 5 cents on the topic! :-)
It would be great if there was no delay using the blocks. As I'm new to all this, just getting the hang of working with the metronome on Garageband however the blocks seem to lag behind even when connected directly via USB and trying to make a beat.
Hmm...I haven't had that problem myself. Are you able to change the sample rate in Garageband? How about trying a traditional midi keyboard - does that have a delay too?
Hi there Sanjay! Im having a problem on the plug in (3:29) when i search for equator it does not appear to me,any ideas what it might be the problem? Thanks in advance
Roli should offer you a marketing and trainer position. I learned a lot about it from you and without any suggestion from you, willing to buy it too 😅😂

@SanjayC Great video, I can’t seem to record Midi Output from Roli Studio Player AU when used as a Midi Effect in Logic or GarageBand. I noticed in your video it is similar in that it does not record the true midi notes. In the advanced settings of Roli Studio Player you can turn off the built in audio engine to use Studio Player as a midi effect for smart chords, arpeggios etc too. The goal is I’d like to run the Studio Player without producing audio and instead have the midi generated by the player effects be recorded / trigger my other virtual synths and hardware. When I press a key to record in Logic only individual notes get recorded to the midi track instead of a smart chord. After researching, apparently Logic and Apple’s AU format does not output the midi notes the Studio Player produces. Do you have a work arounds for this?
I’m not a pro at logic but have you tried having a separate track listen and record the midi from the ROLI player track? I’m not sure how one does that in Logic but that’s what I would do in Ableton.
@@SanjayC cool yes, I just figured this out myself after installing the dashboard update. I have trouble with controlling Logic though. I can only control the mixer but not instruments. Places like Sweetwater and Kraft and Guitar Center don't have the GarageBand version available! Only Apple and Roli's own website. Well those 2 sites don't have the special financing. How easy is it to install GarageBand version on the regular Songmaker Kit? I see there are instructions to do so on the Roli website. Will it result in having the same features as the GarageBand version?
The regular Songmaker Kit will work just fine with Garageband...same features. I think Roli just made this special release to highlight the Garageband features - but all Songmaker kits will work the same.

Yes, it’s works well with GarageBand on iOS! Watch my video here it’s the same for the Lightpad: ruclips.net/video/HcD-EOLx7Y8/видео.html
Can you do the same on Logic Pro X?
Yes!
Sanjay Good to know. Thank you!!
Do you need Equater with any software?
If you get Equator, you can use it standalone. You don't need any other software to use the sounds in Equator.
@@SanjayC Thxs!
Good video! One question tho, what’s the difference between this version of songmakerkit and the original songmakerkit ?
I think the original version has a software which works with pc not just macos
Do you need any external audio interface? Or can you just plug it in via USB and don't have any delay playing the keys?
No interface needed. Just plug it in. No delay either. :-)
Hey, I'm using the lightpad block M on its own as that's all I have. So far I cannot seem to be able to change octave of the block inside of the Garageband app. Do you know of this is possible?
I don't think you can do it in the Garageband app. But you can do it in the Roli Dashboard app.
@@SanjayC ahh okay thanks! That's a shame that they can't do it in app. They currently don't even have a dashboard app yet for ios so I hope thats something Roli can get on to soon.
How do i record a song without controller block ? I commanded my seaboard block but not the controller
You can use the record buttons in GarageBand. All the buttons on the controller block can be found in the Garageband software itself.
Sanjay C on the noise to ?
Yes on Noise too
Rahspect✊🏾
Thanks!
Hi. Is it possible using it with IPad Gb too? If yes adaptor is included?
You can use it with an iPad. You don't need an adapter because its bluetooth! :-)
Sanjay C ok, it’s good to know about it but in that case the latence is correct for example in iPad?
Total novice here; is the roleusable with garageband on iPad ios13?
Yes it is! It works well with it. See here ruclips.net/video/HcD-EOLx7Y8/видео.html
Greatttttttt music and KYOTOOOOO!
Yup! :-)
Hahah, great thumbnail!
You should see my dog play the piano!
Hey how about logic x? Can it work same ?
yes, it will work the same in Logic
I'm assuming the process is exactly the same for Logic too, right?
Yup, Roli Dashboard has a setting called "Logic Control."
Does Roli works with mixcraft software??? Or only with iOS products?
It will work with anything that can run a VST or AU plugin
Sanjay C Thanks for responding. This one of the best RUclips channels that I've ever seen.
Wow. Thanks, Chandru!!
Nice 👍
😎
can i use roli with ipad 6th generation
Yeah, you should. I haven't tried it, but they're really good with their iOS support.
Bayya roli seaboard 25 keys costs 1 model was 25,000 and another model showing 53,000 what's the difference between 25 & 53???
The Roli Seaboard Rise has more functions to adjust your sound and it feels a little more high quality. But sounds are the same.
Does roli supports any laptop...?
Yes, any Windows or Mac laptop will work
Can lightpad block works with Logic?
Yes it does. Very well!
Does it work with logic?
Yup!
it is used in logic pro
Yes Logic Pro works too!
Huge respect to your video itself...but $600? That's a big fat nope from me. That kind of money buys a premium-grade regular 61 key midi controller
Without any of the 5D expression that makes the Seaboard and Lightpad totally unique.
What is price?
The full kit is $600, but Roli is having a sale right now: bit.ly/2DD9aPr
Great video, but I think you're a different person with and without beard.I don't know. You look and feel different. But either way you're great. :)
How to get in India plz 🇮🇳
Probably in a music store. Or can you order online?
Oh and ❤ for 🐶
First.
One of these days, someone might beat you to it!! ;-)
Sanjay C 😝 🙃 😜 Time will tell.
So perfect for cheesy commercials and "lifestyle" RUclips videos!!!
Everytime you say garage band, I keep expecting to hear Logic, and I don't know why
8:23 why u make music instead of petting your doggo?!
Haha! Doggo gets lots of love every time the camera isn't rolling! :-D And she loves being in my videos too!
R u sponsored
Not sponsored, but I do get some free stuff from different companies from time to time.
Sanjay C thx for responding: I also have a seaboard block. They r expressive as hell
I am happier, cause I can use that with Windows.
you can start doing music without a keyboard that costs more than 500 dollars
Yup...you can even just use your computer’s QWERTY keys. But the organic feel of a keyboard like this, is inspiring in my opinion!
