Kmart Closing In Avenel, NJ. This past weekend we took a weekend trip out to New Jersey and we visited this Kmart store which is slated to close in April 2022. With the closure of this location there will only be 3 Kmarts remaining in the United States in 2022. At this point, the 4 Kmart stores currently open don't even feel like Kmart but more like a discount department store that gets their products at wholesale. Unfortunately the Kmart dream has been dead for a few years now. This is just the sad remains of a once great and dominant retailer.
