I am now someone you wouldnt even think was a wild teenager. If anyone ever knew how I was compared to now, their jaw would hit the floor.

You'll find it hard to find music you want if you stick to mainstream charts and trends. A tip for you is to search up for "genres". Will be one of the best things you'll do for yourself.
If you want to find music like this look up "Sophisti-Pop", and you'll find both old and modern indie artists who make this kind of music.

This song is the embodiment of why the eighties were so great. When I hear it, I feel on one hand sadness because I'm no longer a carefree kid like I was back then, but on the other hand I also feel a certain joy that I can't describe.

Yes. And they did it in Don´t leave me this way too. Loved their music back then, bought records. Marc Almond is another example from that era who also could cover songs in great style of his own.
Jackson Five did this years before, followed by Gloria Gaynor, huge number one hit - but none of them come near to the quality of this version from the early 80's. An absolute classic tune. What a voice Jimmy

in the 80's some friends and i tried these dance steps as soon as the song was played and it was always really cool because a lot of people joined us. it was absolutely magical how the music brought us together...no twerking, no tit show...just enjoy the music, the rythm and having fun.
