"What's the deal with the voting rights act?" made me laugh out loud
GiantSandles P p
"The white race is under attack!!"
Makes me laugh just thinking about it
Jerry Seinfeld doesn't get the fact that most people don't find him funny anymore. Taste changes. George Carlin changed over time, and he stayed relevant until his untimely demise.
George Carlin would be attacked today for his routine.
***** He was attacked for most of his career. This would be nothing new to him.
AldanFerrox Attacked for different reasons. He couldn't start his career today. Mel Brooks even says today's PC wouldn't let him make Blazing Saddles
***** No, the same reasons. He was attacked for making jokes about women, children, minorities and other things.
AldanFerrox 20 years ago. Today he couldn't start.
I think people think Jerry Seinfeld is funny because Larry David is funny.
Yup. Curb your Enthusiasm was honestly a better show than Seinfeld
John Leary by far, not even close.
Thats because the left out jerry! Lol
5:30 "He never had an interaction with a college aged person..."
Yeah, Seinfeld only goes for high school girls.
Seinfeld is the poster child of why comedy is inherently subversive. When someone that rich, that privileged, and that fat and happy tries to make fun of the world, he can't figure out how. That's why he has a psychological need for his comedy to be under assault from the PC police, so that some marginal aspect of the world isn't being handed to him on a silver platter.
dorsk188 Here's a list of comedians who essentially agree with Seinfeld: Chris Rock, John Cleese, Russell Peters, Bill Maher, Patton Oswalt, Scott Capurro, Jim Norton, Lisa Lampanelli, Ricky Gervais, Artie Lange, Larry the Cable Guy. Do all of these comedians come from privileged backgrounds, and if not, then how do you explain this gaping hole in your theory?
LastBref At least three of the people you mentioned are openly racist, it's not exactly surprising they have a problem with people being offended by them.
LastBref I didn't say privileged backgrounds, I said he is privileged now (and yes, I would say several of those other comedians are, as well). I love John Cleese and Ricky Gervais, but it's undeniable that their success has insulated them from the actual travails that most people experience and even they themselves come from. Jerry Seinfeld made his whole career on nitpicking the day to day annoyances like opening little packets of peanuts on airlines, but he's been flying on a private jet for the last 20 years.
He's a man desperate to have some sort of adversity, and he has created one out of whole cloth. (If you watch the routine that kicked this off recently, the joke he said was "too edgy for PC culture" got a laugh.) Seinfeld is not Lisa Lampanelli whose comedy is intentionally provocative. Seinfeld is a soft observationalist whose day to day experience is so alien to the rest of the world that he can't relate to it anymore. And this is him trying to make that *our problem*.
dorsk188 nailed it. great observation
What bullshit. So we can only listen to comedians who aren't rich? Or does this only apply to the white ones? You douche.
If it wasn't for Larry David- Jerry would be a mattress salesman. I don't think Jerry Seinfeld ever tried to be a George Carlin. Jerry is a brand. A commercial enterprise that hit a home run with his sitcom, which I loved and still watch occasionally. But that's it for Jerry. He's terrified to really give it another shot because he, correctly, knows that other than playing himself- there's no market for him. He left them laughing and he's committed to keeping it that way. But now he's coming out to say that the world can't handle comedy anymore, so that's why he doesn't do anything.. What a joke. Jerry is about as "edgy" as a basketball. In fact, if the college circuit is sooooo PC- then Jerry should be perfect. Now we all know the networks probably beg him every year to come back- why wouldn't they- you never know- And I'm sure this is what maintains his apparently fragile ego. But let's face it- they'll try Honey Boo Boo if it will make a buck. I think Jerry is hostile because he's not revered like he thinks he should be. When people list the all-time greats- his name NEVER comes up, and yet that's how I think he sees himself. Now of-course I don't know him- it's just a feeling- but I think Jerry feels the pressure of retiring too early and needs one more to complete the career- and he's terrified to try.
Martin Mcnamara I have seen many lists where Seinfeld is fairly high in terms of all time comedians. He's never going to break into the Bruce Carlin Carson Pryor Hicks Rickles Cosby category--no one is. After that and a few critical people I'm sure I have left out, people put him in the Robin Williams / Letterman / Jim Carrey / Eddie Murphy / Steve Martin category pretty commonly.
The car show is great, but episodes with people he wasn't into - Kathleen Madigan, notably - are grindingly uncomfortable and no fun. Let him do it his way and see how many people protest his show. I think he will be fine.
Its 2019 and this is still relevant. Jerry Seinfeld IS NOT FUNNY.
if it were not for larry david, jerry would be doing the comedy circuit in his beat up vw and he would have never made it
wanetta renay nah not at all true, he’s the one that got offered a development deal from NBC because he was crushing the comedy scene and then he got Larry to help him write, whether or not you find him funny doesn’t matter your comment is false.
@@nopeteys2424 He got offered a development deal from NBC and would have failed without Larry David. The comment is true.
@@nopeteys2424 A deal doesn't mean much. Lots of people get deals but have their series cancelled after one season or even a few episodes.
Besides, history has clearly shown who the more talented guy is. It's Larry David. He still makes unique and funny stuff. What does Seinfeld do? Whine about PC culture gone mad, like an old boomer.
Seinfeld was by far the absolute worst person on his show - yuck!
he wasn't much in real life, he appears to be a closet homophobic gay who is totally phony
Right. It's political correctness run amock! And not, you know, an aging has been sitcom star from the 90s who can't connect with young people.
'Young People' aka Indoctrinated College Students who've been raised in a culture of hypersensitivity.
@@waynerembert3116 "Young people" aka the people the older generation always blames to deflect from their own failures.
White-supremacist-Jerry Seinfeld sounds like a hilarious bit
Matt M after Kramers meltdown irl i always expect him to go into a racist rant when he busts in Jerry apartment when i watch reruns.
"Whats the deal with black people"? Am i right?? In jerrys terrible voice.
Jerry Seinfeld is not now, has never been, and will never be; funny.
Like Jay Leno and too many others, Jerry is "safe funny". More ephemeral and disposable than the guys who make us think and chew and go "Eff that's hilarious, I never thought of it that way. He's right". Reactions to safe comedy are more like "Yeah, I do that too. Huh". They aimed for the middle. And, safely pleasing the dim majority without pushing any buttons, they went to the top.
Damn the comments section of this video is getting brigaded hard by right-wingers.
Purple Stoner Midget™ On the contrary, we need more push-back like this. We need more progressive contrarians to call bullshit when their fellow progressives go too far. Too many are afraid of being perceived as a right-winger by people like you, so they just go along with whatever the "left" position is supposed to be. When I see the Majority Report being irrational, it gets under my skin because they're supposed to be better than this.
They liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike it.
Ice Bear comment section? I get more comments posting a picture of a lasagna in my facebook. what do these guys do for a living?
they live on the internet
Trolls be trollin'.
Seinfeld once went on a rampage on airline peanuts.....dude is a maniac.
I love you guys for this! Really, you guys are my warm place in a world of bullshit! You guys have nailed it completely, and how hard is it?
Not much of a secret that the only thing making Seinfeld funny was Larry David. His stand up is good observations, and that alone seem to impress some people. I usually want the observation to have a joke related to it as well.
9:33 That was a very Fenton-esque moment! ☺
YES Sam. Jerry is a mediocre comedian coasting off of anti-pc bullshit. He was never funny in stand-up.
The only comics who complain about PC culture seem to be aging has-beens...hmm...
Lol Michael's Jerry is great
Mario Joyner, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Sarah Jessica Parker, George Wallace, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Miranda Sings, and Alexandra Wentworth have all been on Jerry's Show. 6 Women and 4 Black Guys. What is the thing about not having Black Guys or women on the show?
7:06 - The moment Sam's marriage fell apart.
does my willy Wonka hand gesture again.
I love the show Seinfeld, however, I agree with the criticisms of Jerry Seinfeld complaining about not playing colleges. He got famous from comedy clubs and late night talk shows, not college campuses. It’s arrogance and narcissistic. My only comfort is that Larry David was the real genius behind the show.
In the Woody Allen movie "Annie Hall", Woody shows up on a stage, do some stand up and at a certain point one joke says: "I met Eisenhower's wife, she was gorgeous, I wanted to do to her the same thing as Eisenhower did to the nation."
I know Seinfeld is the most popular sitcom of all time, but I do not get it. I never found it even sort of funny, and the artificial schtick setup was annoying AF.
I swear I wanna see the expressions on Michael's face when he doing his Seinfield impersonation.
Same with Ricky gervais. It’s not about pc culture or freedom of speech. It’s about him having boring jokes
18:06 Before he had a sitcom, in the mid-1980s, the style of stand-up comedy he was doing was considered new and fresh, at least by mainstream audiences. If he’d never gotten a sitcom and he’d only done stand-up for the last 30 years? Harder to say. He wouldn’t be considered edgy by modern audiences but comedians would probably tip their hat to what he did in the 1980s.
That was also the period where Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Richard Lewis, Ellen Degeneres, Steven Wright, Roseanne Barr, hell even Andrew Dice Clay were producing actually interesting work. Seinfeld was always just safe, that's why his form of stand-up is itself only a joke now
He did choose to work clean and do inoffensive material, even in his pre-TV days. What I mean is that the observational style of stand-up comedy was really taking off in the mid-1980s and he was credited with being one of the people who popularlised it in the late 1970s/early 1980s.
Seinfield is one of the best shows ever made. I dont know about Jerrys standup but the show is amazing.
yeah, Larry David is a genius. Seinfeld, not so much.
I used to read Charlie Hebdo in French. It was REALLY offensive. They made fun of people on the day of their funerals. It wasn't all funny.
Doing a Seinfeld impression is like singing the national anthem. You have to start low because it ends high. If you start too high you will have nowhere to go.
Their impressions sound like stereotypical 'just gt kicked in the balls' guy.
now i love "seinfeld" (the show), but i never found his stand up that good. it wasnt horrible, but it wasnt anything to write home about either.
Really? Seinfeld and Woody aren't funny? Right...
Almost like they have a different opinion. Why do you want to censor them?
The part that's funny to me is that people who complain about others "getting offended" seem, by and large, to be the most easily offended people on Earth. Seinfeld was offended people didn't laugh at this one nonsensical joke. It wasn't because he said "gay." It was because it's not fucking funny. What does that even mean, gay French king? I don't get it. I'm not being cute either, I don't get what's supposed to be funny there. "Hey look, this is how gay French kings act?" Okay, I don't know of any gay French kings so I don't get the joke.
Disagree about Seinfeld being racist and sexist like Sam implies at one point here. And that girl who spearheaded CancelColbert had every right to do it? No. She took it out of context. She was silly in a very bad way. You don't have the right to try to get someone's job taken away because of something minor, that is a joke, that you took out of context.
Agreed. Being progressive is no guarantee to having well-reasoned arguments. This show can get lazy and reactionary at times, pandering to identity politics.
Still a fan of Andy and Sam. I've never been a fan of Seinfeld as a stand-up, but their denigration of his opinion is the very definition of ad hominem fallacy. It smacks of petty, vapid populism. The same guilt-by-wealth/whiteness shaming that leads some to presume Woody Allen is a child rapist just because he's rich and privileged and hated by Mia Farrow. By the same logic, Seinfeld must be a racist, delusional creep.
FungusMossGnosis
I'm also a fan of Andy for the most part. And that's the problem is some of these reactionary digital mediums, or TMZ and tabloid journalism styles will judge by a single event, act or aspect and run with it. Nevermind that Seinfeld is good friends with Chris Rock and Mario Joyner. Nope. He's racist. He already went over the complaints about lack of diversity in interviews. He has people on who he thinks is funny and who he is friends with. The show has 'diversified' since that whole thing, but who is to say that it wasn't going to start having more people who he isn't immediately familiar with in the first place? And I'm sure some people will point at him putting on some lesser known people and say 'see, we told him he needed to do that and he did'. Meh.
1. sam agrees that she took it out of context
2. she has the legal right to complain about it
3. colbert doesn't have the legal right to be on a tv show.
4. he DIDN'T lose his job, in fact, he's moved on to bigger and better things, and Sam appreciates that Colbert didn't play the victim like so many of these other lose comedians do
Bad comedian? 1.It's subjective. 2.It's irrelevant. 3.He's one of the most successful (richest) comedians in the world.
I thought comedians know that bashing your colleague is not a nice thing. And coming from less known, less successful (much less -unknown I'd say) comedian, you sound ridiculous. You can say that you don't like him, but you can't say that he's bad at his job. (Larry David - Darry Lavid...it's still Seinfeld)
He says that he only cares for Funny policy ! Not identity. Has worked with black and women comedians. Has performed on colleges. Heard a lot about it, from other comedians and He's talking from personal experiences.
No one is talking about ''the end of comedy'' or that people can't be offended . When someone so clean and not edgy is called racist and misogynist...You're proving his point. YOU are the problem !
You don't think Colbert should loose his job, but you don't think it's wrong to call for ''Cancel Colbert'' ? Because nothing happened? He's still there. So it's all good. This was 2015...in 2017 YOU lost Your job on MSNBC. I guess you still think there's nothing wrong, since you've got it back few days later?
I mean I guess there's no accounting for taste.
Its funny how you keep taking Seinfeld out of context, you act like he brought this up out of nowhere, that he's bitching about this cause its costing him money and that he's had no experience with it. When in reality he was asked about it, because it's a big topic in comedy right now,(Bill Maher, Chris Rock have talked about this extensively) and he was accused of being racist with his show a few years back on social media. Thats how crazy PC culture has become, a comic who is not very edgey is getting accused of racism for a show that was on 20 years ago.
Dude getting coffee with comedians has tons of black and women comics on there.
George Carlin made essentially the same point as Seinfeld....the bashing here seems overboard.
Do Kindler and Seder represent the future of men in this world?
Sam, Jerry Seinfeld actually made a career in comedy and making people laugh. You took the same career path and somehow did the opposite. For what it's worth, you did make me laugh once. But only because your life seems to be falling apart.
sam sader has stopped referring to himself as a comedian. i win
@Frank McGovern the misspell was intentional big brain. yes, the small subscriber and increasingly tiny amount of views on his channel does indicate his life is falling apart. he did already divorce his wife. for now he still has occasional small role on bobs burgers...
Annie Hall,"I'm getting your references, now!"
Those comedians wants to be able to say whatever they want and for the entire audience to still laugh.
But you don't have that much power.
I'm not offended by certain words either. But that doesn't mean I can't try to understand why some people find some things upsetting. I don't have that reaction and maybe that's a personal failing but the bottom line is I don't think I'm the sole arbiter of what is and is not cool to say in what context. If someone thinks something is racist or something okay, maybe they have a point. Maybe I'm wrong. I've actually learned things like that. You know, learning shit? You know that whole thing? Remember that? That's how you grow and change as a person, is it not? Do we all think we're special perfect snowflakes who are just awesome the way we are and couldn't use some improvement? Because we ALL can stand
to be better people, right? That seems like the mature and reasonable way to handle these things, does it not?
Eddie murphy and many black people appear on seinfeld….what grudge is this about jerry…you ere a jew…with respect
Really seinfield never told an interesting joke. Says the failed comedian in his echo chamber
Lesson to comics: It doesn't have to be "cutting-edge" or offensive to be funny.
And who asked you to give out "lessons" to comic?
You can't tell why people pushed back against Suey Parks nonsense?
Great Helm "I didn't watch the video and I'm proud of it!"
Nice try dumbass.
Purple Stoner Midget™ I told you to wait in the truck.
Literally nobody ever took Suey Park seriously.
You dumbfucks managed to find one single human who actually embodies your stereotype of a SJW... and everyone just laughed at her. Well most people just laughed at her, I guess some of you reactionaries hid from her under your beds.
If you're a clean comedian like seinfeld you're forced into being anti-pc. It's assumed by default you're pc if you're clean. So there's that dynamic going on as well. If you can talk about sex and things of that sort you can say you don't care and you'll say what you want. You also don't care insofar as people can be offended if they want.
lol this continues to age well.
How can you possibly say Seinfeld's comedy has never mattered when he created (arguably) the greatest sitcom on TV? If you don't think it's the greatest it's routinely top 3 or 5 in most people's lists.
Or is Sam just referring to his standup? So confused and disappointed.
@Frank McGovern pretty stupid thing to say. They were partners. Also after David left, they made some amazing episodes. The show really didn’t fall off.
Seinfeld may be hitching his wagon onto the opinion his friends are pulling for some sense of loyalty, right? He did bring Kramer (Michael Richards) into a Letterman appearance, in order to give a friend/co-worker a chance to make amends for things he did, after all. If anything, perhaps we can at least fault Seinfeld on having a strong sense of loyalty to friends, but generally ends up looking like he really has no opinion for himself, only reinforcing other's opinions. A blind faith or whatever, when, in fact, he doesn't really believe the people he's placed his faith in.
Commenting 6 years later, but what’s with Andy’s headshot from 1982 being displayed?
Kindler's laugh (and opinions) are horrific.
To say "he wasn't funny anyway" is a fragile point and distracts from the actual discussion! And it sounds like Trump who springs into offend-mode if he tries to make a point!
What the fuck do cars have to do with criticizing Seinfeld's PC views? please....
Honestly, the only reason the Seinfeld TV show was any good was because of Larry David. Although Larry David did do that horrible last episode, so, there's that.🤢🤢
18:23 Kona the talking cat!
i like how you can tell that the off camera funny guy is upstaging sam and he HATES it. lol.
You mean Michael Brooks? He's been part of MR for 6 years now, he has great on-air chemistry with Sam.
John Belushi said that women aren't funny.
Really though, Seinfeld douchery aside....the gay French king bit is kinda funny and pretty damn tame.
What's the deeaaalll???!?!?
what is the deal with airline food?
People like binder are the problem
Fenton Mulley has a political radio show. yikes...
The fact that PC Culture is in quotes tells me all I need to know about this video. Ya, like its a figment in the imagination of anyone born before what, 1980?
AmsterdamHeavy It is a figment of the imagination, my guess is they dreamed it up so they could bitch about something.
Such bitterness from Seder. Seinfeld is a nice person. The show still holds up.
I don't think it's bitterness. But I don't think Seinfeld's stuff is as bad as other people seem to think, and I do like the show still. Maybe part of it is that Seinfeld is the new person it's fun to dump on. Maybe some people want their comedians to always also have an edgy take on things and push the envelope. I do like those comedians, too, don't get me wrong.
"Nice person" no sir I've seen countless interviews and run ins with him where he was widely perceived as a dickhead. RUclips it if you can't believe me.
a lot of envy....
Looked at the comments quickly on here. Looks like a bunch of homers for you
Its called age. Is don rickles hot now?
hotter than Seinfeld
THE IRONY
Chris Rock said in an interview with Frank Rich....
"........I stopped playing colleges, and the reason is because they're
way too conservative. Not in their political views.........in their social
views and their willingness to not offend anybody. Kids raised in a
culture of, "We're not going to keep score in the game because we
don't want anybody to lose." Or just ignoring race to a fault."
George Carlin said colleges weren't "fun anymore." too.
Are they whiners too or telling it like it is?
Seinfeld was/is good friends with George Wallace for over 30 years.
Seinfeld's bit about the NYC cabbie with the cabbie license with
the "O' with the line thru it. What planet is that from? Isn't that the
symbol for Boron?" That is one classic funny bit. Sam & Andy where
is your classic bit that's as funny as Seinfeld's bit? Seems like you
two are locked in a toxic spitefulness of Seinfeld's talent like losers.
You guys can't deliver the funny that Seinfeld does/has.
If you can WhereTF is it? Your not up to the challenge.
You can't fill a club the way Seinfeld does because you're not
as funny or original as him. Quit the poisonous jealous cattiness.
We see you're demoralized backstabber's of Seinfeld's success.
Either deliver some funny bits at the level of classic Seinfeld or STFU.
You're called out on your obvious loser envy -signed, sealed & delivered.
(Lost my respect for Kindler who until now I used to like.)
Friends with George Wallace?
"Even some of my best comedy friends are black."
Starwheel6 I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the only comics complaining about political correctness are middle-aged has beens.
career envy much?
Please don't encourage the guy who fills in for Sam and wears THE smallest button down shirts I've ever seen. He's just not funny and his miniature pink button downs bother me...I'm sorry about that fact, sincerely.
Yada yada yada...
Wow, watching this three years later really shows how out of touch these guys were and how correct Seinfeld, Rock et al were.
No, it doesn't show that.
I love Kindler, Sam, and Seinfeld. I think Seinfeld is correct. People are sensitive pricks these days.
No. Wrong. Seinfeld is 100% correct and you two prove it with your discussion here.
How so? Care to explain? Sam made it clear that he believes Seinfeld has the right to say whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean other people can't have an opinion on his material. And this in turn doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on other people's viewpoints. Seems pretty clear to me. Seinfeld is upset about the imaginary "PC" backlash he is getting from not preforming at universities...sounds pretty stupid to me.
ImmortalTiger94 except the PC culture will get you fired and publicly attacked for a joke. Take that stick out your ass and take a joke.
*****
Yeah, you're right. Nobody has the right to call out other people's stupid bullshit. Everything that may be viewed as racist or sexist or whatever by some people must not be questioned because that mught offend those people. Take your stick out of your ass and respect our freedom of speech.
AnxiousObserver The fact that you wilt under criticism of Jerry Seinfeld proves nothing, except that you wilt under the slightest criticism.
ImmortalTiger94 I'm not the one who'll get people fired for what they say. Why do you want to be thought police? Freedom of speech shouldn't mean I'm afraid to tell a joke because it might 'trigger' someone.
Take a joke.
Jerry Seinfeld was bland? And you aren't Mr. Hiperster glasses?
So what if Seinfeld has more success? That mean he can't joke about or criticism him? And yes, Seinfeld's boring, stale, tired observational humor is kind of offensive to my waking state, and to my knowledge I don't have *major* problems.
Hipster glasses? pfff, this guy had the same glasses for like 20 years. But maybe you mean the early to mid 90s hipsters, not todays (whoever they are). Personally, I prefer the original late 50s/early 60s hipsters.
I absolutely love Jerry Seinfeld - he's wrong on this point but so what? We can criticise him and also find his standup hilarious.
You spelled Dane Cook wrong.
Your bias is showing Sam Seder
EnderDragonOver9000 His bias toward funny comedians? Or his bias toward people who can handle things like grownups?
***** I'm sure for you many concepts are unrecognizable.
On the other hand Jerry is Funny
