Wow! Chad LB is one of the best saxophonists on this planet but these other musicians are amazing as well. Truly God given talent we all got right here. I hope they keep using their talents to make more amazing music.
Like many others I can’t play at this level (yet) so I immerse myself in listening to the language for hors on end. I believe it helps me. I start being able to sing the lines.
Funny how we detect it's an "error" because of the video footage of Stephen's reaction to his playing, but on record, this would maybe be considered as something daring and adventurous from Stephen. Just my 2¢. Cheers!
around 1:19, Chad plays an enclosure to land on Bb, the fifth degree of Eb which is the tonic chord in the phrase. In the enclosure, he plays an Ab and Db. It's obviously to make it sound out, but does anyone know what kind of structure he could be thinking about to organize that specific sound? Or does anybody else commonly use enclosures to the fifth of the tonal center that are either exactly like that or similar to that?
For clarification, the six notes I'm talking about are Ab, Db, B, A, Bb, G. Maybe the Db, B, A (enharmonically, C#, B, A) could be an E natural kind of sound?
I'm not sure. I don't think there's one "right" way to think about it, but I think having as many angles as possible to look at great improv from makes it a lot easier to understand and emulate. If anyone else has any other ideas about how to understand either this part of Chad's solo or ANY part of Chad, Steven, Michael, or Yasushi's playing, please let me know!

Nice one Chad! loving these standard videos. Question for anyone who reads this, the A section to this tune, does everyone just see it as CMa7-EbMaj7-Dmaj7-Dbmaj7? using Ionian for each? See any of them #11/lydian M7s? I've seen different on some charts, just curious.
Jazzer Caster there is no "right" way, really. Play it how you feel it! Blues, Ionian, whatever, to get confortable with it, and then explore other sonorities after that! Good luck:)
Original changes are: Cmaj7 (2 bars) Cm7 (2 bars) D7 / C (1 bar + 2 beats) Db / C (2 beats) Cmaj7 (2 bars) So yeah, what you said definitely works! Just keep in mind that E-flat ionian will give you C aeolian-so you'd have an A-flat in C minor! And D-flat ionian will give you a G-flat in a chord that is resolving to C major. These are not traditionally common but like Alexandre said, there is no correct way. If it feels and sounds good to you (and whoever is paying you) then do it!
What???? No no he doesn’t sound anything like bird or trane, he might use some of their chops like most other sax players , but his sound is his own with a slight bit of maybe sonny Rollins , but bird or trane , no.
Connor Wilde Yes I’ll agree with that, he does sound a little like brecker. He definitely has good command of that tenor sax and plays a ton of notes very fast. Good player. I really like his drummer too, very nice content in his chops.
Connor Wilde Connor, this is the first I ever heard of chad, I know you probably are saying, WHAT? but I haven’t been keeping up with the newer younger players that much. I really don’t hear too many that impress me much. I’m a jazz drummer, so I focus more on drummers, with the exception of Keith Jarrett . His trio he had for quite a long time just knocks me out. In my opinion the greatest jazz trio ever, and dejohnette is one of my favorite drummers along with many others, and Keith Jarrett is to me the, the greatest pianist on this planet. He’s just a f---g monster.

The pianist in the beginning be lookin like
“You ain’t ready for this fire”
that bassist is a monster player
Steven is such a unique pianist, very hard to stop rewinding. Chad exceeds expectations as always
Steven KILLED that piano solo. And Michael's groove was immaculate.
Wow! Chad LB is one of the best saxophonists on this planet but these other musicians are amazing as well. Truly God given talent we all got right here. I hope they keep using their talents to make more amazing music.
I think they just practice a whole lot.
Like many others I can’t play at this level (yet) so I immerse myself in listening to the language for hors on end. I believe it helps me. I start being able to sing the lines.
Chad is such a relaxed player, yet so killin'
Such a clean piano solo. Solid recovery at the end too
I definitely hear a lot of parker in your sound, and then all of a sudden I’m hearing Coltrane. Absolutely phenomenal.
love the piano solo .best I've heard on this tune
I come back to this recording so often. I honestly think that this is at least in my top three favorite recordings of all time.
5:08 a bit of a quote from Conception? maybe? ;)

I guess the Ab makes sense since it's diatonic in Eb. Is the Db just a #9 of Bb sound?

My godness
Getting huge red garland vibes from the painist
In an interview, he lists Garland as one of the first pianists he fell in love with.
@@ericliang4744 true but which interview? lol
@@stevenfeifke4861 lmao it was the NYC artists one
@@ericliang4744 ah yes... thank you
O sax tenor que você usa é um Dolphin amigo, obrigado. I from Brasil. The tenor saxophone that you use is a Dolphin??thanks
O saxofone que ele toca é da marca Lupifaro, modelo Platinum vintage
man you make me wish I played tenor, such a sound.
When was this recorded?
I was hearing a bass solo at the start ngl

Jazzer Caster just play pentatonics lol
what saxophone he uses and what is the mouthpiece or mouthpiece that he also uses?
Carlos Henrique he plays on a lupifaro platinum series tenor and I think he’s playing on a Lebayle mouthpiece with a Silverstein ligature
Mike PILOOOOOOOTT
The drummer pretty crazy doe
I tried to keep time and not get lost through his solos like six times and still didn't get it right on XD
The bass player drank like 10 cups of coffee before the gig.
So much for Jazz being dead...Wow!
What???? No no he doesn’t sound anything like bird or trane, he might use some of their chops like most other sax players , but his sound is his own with a slight bit of maybe sonny Rollins , but bird or trane , no.
Chuck C I hear lots of Michael Brecker

Great skills but I would prefer more space. Little bit overspoken to me
old sax but good tone
Tun Aung Kyaw Tun Aung Chad actually plays a new sax, a Lupifaro! Cheers:)
what saxophone he uses and what is the mouthpiece or mouthpiece that he also uses?
Carlos Henrique lupifaro sax with a Lebayle mouthpiece if I remember correctly
@@jamesplaisance2408 thank you🎷✌😊
