I've never seen Mahi At my local Grocery. You have to go to to a specialty meat shop. Or live at the coast.
I live in hawaii we call it mahi mahi here too but I mostly smoked marlin at the stores here but the best is the California spicy ahi poke
Its only called mahi mahi if u live in hawaii. Dorado is mexico areas. In U.S. its called dolphin. If youre calling it mahi in U.S. youre fake and dont have knowledge of this fish or just trying to be cool. I worked at a fish market in FL before and we used to blow up on kooks who called it mahi. Thats only respectable if in hawaii

I live on this island so he came over and we went with my friend's friend who is the captain. It's always this way in Indonesia - you have a friend that has a friend and then quickly you become friends. Very low barriers to friendship so it's cool.

Currents there and Asia are unreal. I had never experienced anything like it outside of working in the Mississippi river. An we didn't have down currents when we worked in the river. Love your videos.

I grew up living 15 mins from the U.S. National Whitewater Center in North Carolina so I feel I know a little bit about turbulent water and holy shit I never knew the ocean could have currents that strong on a clear day like that. Really cool.
That sounds like a cool place to grow up! Believe it or not this was a "calmer" type day at this spot. Current is definitely harder to handle but current brings fish which makes it quite exciting.

A ton of respect for the ocean is the first thing to learn for a waterman. The power of nature is immense.
@@DepthWish Yes the power of nature cannot possibly be contained. My family lives off the land so taking daily trips to fish is definitely a necessity. I’ve seen the ocean on the calmest of days and the ocean on the worst. But it will always be a part of me

Awesome content, and what a life change. One of my favorite things I've gotten into is night time sling spear fishing here in Hawaii. It's such a rush.
Do they have any rules for the state that describe what kind of spearguns are allowed to be used? I have read that some spots in the Caribbean allow only for the hand slings. I think they are called Hawaiian slings actually...
I use the Hawaiian 3 prong, no barb, sling spear. I know other guys use guns and I haven't heard of any regulations. A sling spear it's good for night time because you can get up close to the fish when they are blinded by the flashlight lol. During the day you need a gun because they keep their distance. Being 30 feet down at night is an amazing feeling.
@@AudioGearhead - the sling certainly requires a very refined, quiet dive to get in striking range. I'm looking forward to trying it at some point. I've not seen one person here in Indo with that setup. Not too much night diving going on and visibility can get good 30+ meters and those fish know you are there, haha.
You can see how powerful the current is in the footage when they dropped him off up current to untangle the line!

I’ve done that drift dive before off of Bali. That current is no joke
The Lombok Straight is one of the deepest spots in the ocean with two tectonic plates coming together - so much water flows back and forth with the tides it's mind blowing...

Current in Indo is bonkers, I got sucked down to the end of my float line in Chenigan channel, 50' float line plus a 4' bungee stretched to its max 16', stopped kicking as it was useless and wasting oxygen, just held onto my gun for deer life till the down current finally let go, barely made it back to the surface.
