You’re right about the movie aging well. It’s 2024; and I watch it often. It’s my 2nd favorite thriller; and my favorite sci-fi thriller. You’re also right; it doesn’t need a sequel.
He even see's the big chrome ball in his visions when he gets rebooted .. the same one he visits at the end of the movie with the girl (he called it destiny when he saw it). Does this mean it's a memory and that his visit to the chrome ball already happened before it happened?
This movie remains one of my all time favorites, even 7 years later. It's very re-watchable because it's so damn clever. I agree too that we don't need a sequel because it was wrapped up so well, but at the same time left things open to interpretation.
That's true- if they made a sequel, I would probably still watch it because it would have me intrigued to see where they could go from there. Thanks for watching
@@KyleGauntReviews me too and It's 2020 I watched because of quarantine and I think they should make shows just like this one there are so many things Hollywood can learn from this and also makes you think that what if they continue the storyline with a show I think it would be frickin phenomenal
Source code is definitely one of my favorite movies too. I saw it first on my tv during a new year party and I stood there right in front of the tv till the movie ended as the party raged on behind me. It just struck a special chord with me about how valuable each moment in life is, and that we must never take it granted.
i would really love to rewatch this one again ..but remembering how he was crying while talking to his dad over the phone .... makes me sad already .. so maybe ill rewatch later when im older....
Great film. Excellent analysis! What is the deal with the ending though? Jake ends up living in the body of the history teacher... what happened to the history teacher?!? Trapped in limbo? lol. Mysteries abound...
That's a very good question and makes you really think. Was the original consciousness overwritten by Colter's or is it some how still there, but suppressed? By assuming the teachers life, is he essentially murdering him?
In the actual reality, everyone in those train is dead. The hint of extended reality is when open mic scene and Colter conscious has been terminated. The screenplay after those scene was happened in Colter's mind who had lived as Sean. There is no such a taking someone consciousness because we talk about different reality, the actual one and the Colter's one which extended after 8 minutes
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's quantum leaping isn't he? In our reality, everyone on that train is dead, but he was able to get the information to stop the second bombing. And it was well established that his consciousness is jumping into the bodies of various Sean Fentresses in a series of parallel universes, all taking place in the last eight minutes of each of the Seans' lives, that's supposedly how the source code works. That being said, poor Sean Fentress, he seems to be trapped while Captain Colter Stevens pilots the body, and in nearly every case, to his death!!! :(
I re-watched this movie and can Confirm it is indeed an overlooked, underrated masterpiece. Especially with the "Branched Time Line" logic of the Source Code machine that the MCU definitely didn't rip off with their own time travel logic *laughs sarcastically*
I just want to underdtand the ending so the guy was already dead but brain was connected to machine , but at the end he sends a message to the lady who's been controlling his mission asking her to save him , so did he create a time loop where he basically saves him self , or an alternative reality.
What a great review. Fair with just the right amount of information. This is played on BBC the other night with no commercials and I’m now going to re-watch on Netflix. Love Jake and Michelle.
Great video! It really is such a different movie. Not just because of the original plot, but the direction is very unusual and fresh. A very good film, I've enjoyed it every time I watch it.
One question, since the source code works on the idea of accessing the last eight (8) minutes of a dead person's life, allowing another person, to in effect, hijack the previously mentioned dead person's body, before they actually died, while in a parallel universe taking place eight minutes in the past, my question is... What happens to the consciousness of the previously dead person, who's obviously not dead in this parallel universe? Are they now trapped, a prisoner in their own body, while this invading foreign entity assumes full control of their body? And if that's so, are they fully aware of what's happening, like some living nightmare, or were the writers merciful enough to place them in an unconscious state, where they're still trapped, just not aware of what's happening to them? For this reason alone there should be a follow-up, yes a part two, simply to explain what happened to Sean Fentress. After all, he's just as important as Captain Colter Stevens, especially to his friend Christina Warren.
Here's what Source Code director Duncan Jones said about the ending: "So Colter Stevens, at the end of the film, begs Goodwin to let him take one more shot at sorting out this disaster on the train, stopping the bomb from going off. So he gets sent, he gets on the train, in what he discovers to be a parallel reality, stops the bomb going off, which means Sean Fentress is now dead although he shouldn’t be… Colter has basically forfeited Sean Fentress’ life just so he, Colter Stevens, can have a happy ending. I like that, because immediately although we have a happy ending, it’s ethically a little bit more ambiguous." So it seems Sean Fentress' consciousness has ceased to exist, essentially murdered by Colter. Kind of sinister, & not exactly heroic. But a very subtle ethical question suggested to the viewer.
Yeah Duncan Jones is an absolute stud director!!! Moon was just simply amazing, Warcraft was a blast and source code was a trip and half and totally underrated!!! I still yet to see Mute but I do hear it's good.
I just happen to see this movie on SyFy channel and it was just GREAT! I will go back and view it again to make sure I did not miss anything but will take sometime so it feels fresh again. Wonderful review also Kyle Gaunt. You were so spot on about this movie but I sure do wish I had seen your review as I would have made a point to watch it sooner than wait for it to come out on TV.
Very good movie definitely, I watched it in TV two years ago and initially didn't understand it completely. But yesterday I finally found it , downloaded it and watched it again. Truly a masterpiece, I love sci fi and time travel and after being disappointed with Terminator Dark Fate, I recommend this film as the best original not over the top, time travel sci fi ever! God bless
@@KyleGauntReviews lol! You're right about that. To be honest I was never particularly blown away by Donnie Darko as a film. It definitely had a very interesting ambiance to it. But I felt like it was over hyped. And yes, I totally enjoyed the video. Fantastic work!
I really like the movie. But it isn't original at all. Reincarnation has been portrayed in Groundhog Day, The Butterfly Effect, Solaris by Tarkovsky, and being plugged into a program was adressed in The Matrix (as you've mentioned) and Assassin's Creed. Reincarnating in someone else's body, or body swaps have been done in multiple works too. I like all these themes running through a movie, that's why I like this one and the other's I mentioned: they have the same themes occuring, in other words - they're not unique. Now, the ending of Source Code is a bit sketchy, but the entire movie up until then is great.

I’ve just watched the movie and wow, does it leave you analyzing! I will watch again and I understand the situation EXCEPT (and please somebody tell me) it’s when Goodwin tells him that he agreed to the mission...... now I don’t take Goodwin for a liar, so how did he agree to it since he had been dead for two months??? Did he agree before he died, did they revive his brain after his death and he agreed??? I just don’t want to believe that he started out as an experiment and was used as a Guinea pig. If he had, I just don’t think that Goodwin would of said he agreed and the fact that she kept saying he knew her name, didn’t initially tell him, and he did come up with her name. So please people, someone explain this?......
I think he may have gone in the source code already or they had spoken before the first scene of the movie since the woman speaks like the captain should already know the mission but forgot or something.
his character in nightcrawler is so unsettling, which is amazing. i never understend he did not win an oscar for it, he did not even get nominated 🤦♂️
Excellent movie and offbeat fantasia so subtly played and it actually is indicating the realms of dimension we are actually living in... Simulated world...
Not sure about live or die but, edge of tomorrow came out a couple years after.... so the concept was probably inspired by source code’s original concept

That it is
Jake Gyllenhaal is the main reason why this movie is that successful!
