- My first day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was nothing but an adventure! From running around, trying to get to Batu Caves for sunrise to ending off the day at Federal Territory Mosque, my first day in Malaysia was one for the books!
I had NO idea about the key fundamentals of the country, I'm slowly starting to fall in love with Kuala Lumpur City. There's SO much to this city, I can't wait to share and explore the rest of my time here with you all. Safe & happy travels!

Welcome to Malaysia. Hope you have an awesome time here. Here are a list of food that you should try:
1. Nasi Lemak (National Dish) - Sold just about everywhere, they may be served in a dish, or better yet, wrapped in banana leaf
2. Roti Canai with Dhal and/or Curry sauce - You can get it at any Mamak Restaurant.
3. Char Koay Teow - some of the best char koay teow can be found at hawker stalls/night markets
4. Curry Laksa
5. Satay (Chicken/Beef) - again you can find these at night markets/stalls by the roadside
6. Chilli Pan Mee
7. Chicken/Beef Rendang - you can eat it with rice, or if you're lucky enough you can eat it with Lemang (sticky rice soaked with coconut juice and heated up in bamboo sticks)
8. Apam Balik - dessert
9. Cendol - super awesome thirst quenching dessert. p/s: make sure you stir/mix it well before eating it.
10. Ramly Burger - Ramly is a brand name for the patty and you can find roadside burger stalls selling them. Its a definite must try.
11. Teh Tarik - literally means "Pulled Tea"

Some Malaysian foods to try:-
Malay Malaysian food:
- Nasi Lemak
- Satay
- Ramly Burger
- Nasi Dagang
- Nasi Kandar
- Mee Goreng
Chinese Malaysian food:
- Hokkien mee
- Salted egg Prawn
- Laksa (you've tried)
- Prawn mee
- Char Kuey Teow
- toasted kaya butter bread, soft boiled eggs with White Coffee for breakfast
- Claypot chicken rice (take away balance if you can't finish the entire Claypot)
*Go to Jalan Alor (street name around 7pm), they have lots of food choices
Indian Malaysian food:
- Roti Canai
- Capati
- lots of curry flavors to try
Dessert - Cendol (be sure to mix the palm sugar completely till the melted ice becomes brownish to get complete flavors)
And lots more, just couldn't recall everything in one go. Don't need to waste money going to lavish restaurants, eat street foods or in small coffee shops or stalls you'll get to taste nice foods.

Laksa is different at different locations. You will find out. Example:
Asam laksa - penang island
Nyonya laksa - melaka
Johor laksa - johor
Sarawak laksa - sarawak

Yeah grace, first impression at chinatown kl is different because there are many stalls selling items. The food stalls are mostly at the backlanes which you found out. However there are stalls all over the place. Chinese are not confined to china town only. If you are free, you can also visit the pudu food court icc. Many many food stalls there.

Ok so the food section in Chinatown is at the end of the big entrance (actually the exit) and then turn right and left again just before the MRT station. There is a row of Chinese and contemporary restaurants there, set up in old colonial and Chinese styles. The place you ate was actually inside the wet market. Btw there are more than 10 types of Laksa in Malaysia. Some Laksa are Chinese inspired, while most are Malay ones.

You were so close to a fantastic cafe when you went to but to Batu caves. It was only one stop further on the train and it’s called Tiffin in the yard. Look it up you will be impressed. My daughter told me about it. James from Australia

Curry in Malaysia generally uses coconut milk as the base, where as in India and any authentic Indian restaurants, uses some sort of yogurt as the base.

There is little korea in Ampang
For malay food you can visit kampung baru. For south indian food, brickfields (little india).
Suggest you to visit "ICC Pudu" for breakfast, plenty of famous food over there. And there was a big wet market, "Pasar Pudu", pasar = market. Where locals buy groceries at cheap price over there

There are 3 major ethnicities in Malaysia; Malay, Chinese Indians. The other ethnicities are the Indigenous, 100 races in Sarawak and Sabah (East Malaysia in Borneo Island)

Singapore Seafood Laksa is more or less the same as Melaka Nyonya Laksa, as they are both Baba Nyonya inspired. What she had was Curry Laksa which is more or less a KL Speciality.

Most of the Chinese & Indians here are descendants of immigrants from 19th century so they are born & bred here. Perhaps what u meant to say here is "Malay". There are also many Filipino there in Malaysia. Most likely in Sabah this is a part of sultanate of sulu. And there are some issue there. U can find in RUclips also the history..

You must go to Klang town and try Claypot Bak Kut Teh. Both soup and dry version.

Chinese Malaysians are Malaysian. As well as Indian Malaysians. There was huge migration from China & India during British rules, therefore the majority of Chinese & Indians here are born & raised in Malaysia. I guess when you were referring to Malaysians as a race, you mean the "Malays". 😁

Oh, too many! The food culture is HUGE in Malaysia. There's so many difference types of cuisines here because the country is so diverse - from Malaysian, Chinese & Indian food!
