3:48:42 I now want a credit scene that just shows Hermes, Grace, Charon and Freddie having board game night once a week. Truly one of the best timelines
Re: Aphrodite's Party I understand the game is touching on some heavy topics, so please keep in mind I'm talking about the *specific, somewhat fantastical example here* and not *the broader issues it is talking about* I totally understand Aphrodite's attempts to escape her bad memories, but its telling that none of the idols, even the ones who want her to stop, don't even stop and think about the fact that Aphrodite has literally sacrificed 4-5 mortal lives (and was planning to sacrifice Venus') in order to *temporarily* escape her trauma. Like, suicide is one thing. Finding the kindest person you can and saying "This rock glued to my soul is so bad I am choosing to end my own life rather than keep carrying it. I'm going to glue it to your soul as part of my suicide, so here in 20-ish years you will also die too." is another thing entirely. I will give her the benefit of the doubt on the 1st attempt; she hoped the memories would be less strong in another body, there was hope this would *work* as a permanent solution. the second...I can attribute to a kind of hope. The 3rd and onward? Purely choosing to give her suicide-creating burden to other people, knowing it will kill them, so she can have temporary relief from her pain. Not saying I don't *understand* why she would choose to do it. Just that...this is the worst of both options.
2:15:08 Apollo's "I suppose that depends on your definition of strength, Grace." really nailed me to the wall when I played for the first time. I was so caught off guard by the way he really challenged what I think most people would be thinking (including Grace) at a time like that. It is exceedingly difficult to write characters who feel older than normal humans, because capturing the sense of long lasting wisdom and the kind of insight that would be available to a long lived being, when we don't have anybody like that to base them off of IRL, is HARD. That felt like one of those moments for me- he changed the criteria you view the entire situation through.
I also love how it seems like, the more musically talented/gifted someone is, the more power they have over/during graces power. Early Apollo shows this by completely stopping it. Appropriate for him. And then Orpheus does it again, I think it's implied that as soon as they meet him he is able to take complete control over the scene because, musically, he is on such a high level he just *takes over* the performance
Yeah, that seems to be why the music stops when Persephone starts confronting him. And then he full out directs the music himself when he lets Grace ask him a question
I played through this game, and I'm astounded by how different some of this is. When I saw Medusa, both Freddie and Pan tagged along. Freddie did use the flamethrower at the end of the song, which was awesome. There's just so many differences; it's incredible.
I believe who comes with you to Medusa depends on your choice at the end of Pan's first song - if you pick one over the other, that's who will tag along for Medusa; if you refuse to choose, they'll both turn up.
Lost in a moment is genuinely my new favourite song, full stop. I love how the visuals show a clam about to open, referencing the birth of Venus, and symbolising the rebirth of her resolve, or her new chance at freedom. As someone who’s been headed down a self destructive path myself, Aphrodites party is easily the most moving scene in the game for me.
I did the blue option and while it’s certainly the least emotional path through the song it’s still such an amazing time, especially when you see how happy everybody is by the end.
I legit had to stop playing the game and just go sob into a pillow for twenty minutes. Absolutely the best song in the game for me, and I keep going back and listening to it.
One other thing I would like to add to the pile of “look into me is insane”. When I did my play through, I choose Persephone over Apollo, but i still had the clever trait. I choose the secret ending, but instead of putting Apollo up as the one that could save Medusa, it put of Persephone. I really wonder what would have happened if I never had to make the choice between the two of them (I dont know this for certain, but I think you can fully miss the song where they fight)
No the "why is Persephone so angry at you?" option makes her more of a sympathetic character (especially if you stayed with her and are getting the story from her perspective) she basically managed to escape the underworld at one point because she wanted to see Demeter but before she could she ran into Apollo and Hades caught up with her she asked for help but Apollo stood there and watched Hades drag her back down ...and then Demeter was shot in front of her during the war so Persephone was having a horrific time and then there was the whole "becoming a mobster" thing and I must add that Persephone's old name doesn't fit her nearly as well as Lucas fits Apollo to the point where she straight up says "You can see why I switched names"
I messed up the Asterion song, and I felt so much better when I got to the Ritual. I learned from that song that the option of "this is their choice" cannot be trusted. And I feel so validated about that now, because you guys played the Ritual in the EXACT same path that I did. Everybody Wants to See You Fall in Love is a fantastic, absolute banger of a song, but getting Lost in a Moment with the Red ending is, in my opinion, the best song in the entire game.
In Aphrodite's party, i got the feeling that Eros is tired of this cycle of suffering, and he just wants it to be over. One way or another. The musical number was SO stressful bc I felt like I was walking a tightrope.
Typing this the morning after I stayed up til 3am watching this. I didn't choose to ruin my sleep schedule, this happened to me!! absolutely incredible game, amazing experience, will be recommending to people and searching for more playthroughs to watch. :DD
The red option you went for and the green option they picked are SO different they're like night and day, and yet these two are probably my two favorite songs in the entire game. This whole thing is just so good aaaaa
this game would be so much fun to play with friends letting them make choices, because you would get a different experience each and every time as different friends would make different choices.
Lost in a Moment version of The Ritual with the red ending is my personal favorite version of that song and it's always so emotional but satisfying to see other players experience it. I feel like the green route offers Aphrodite the most empathy, so even though I love other variations it will always hit the hardest for me.
4:14:18 SPOILERS BELOW For those wondering, in some of the paths (i chose the charisma and intelligence traits, if it matters) one of the options is for Grace to pass the eidelon off to Freddie to bring her back
i think you just have to fully avoid the blue options i went full selfish save freddie options during my playthrough, and it's really sad to see almost every streamer/youtuber take the blue option immediately and lose freddie after romancing her the whole game lol
Lost in a moment, lost in a song is a song that will never fail to make me cry. I unfortunately chose the option to let Aphrodite go, and i really regret it now. Definitely chosing another option on my next playthrough I finally finished the game and started my next playthrough. I chose red this time instead of green (I chose green first because I figured muses were similar to bards, and bards are known to be charming) and I'm so excited. I'm also romancing pan this time, I want to see his character development.
I didn't try it the first time because it seemed unlikely that it would lead to getting information, but I like the version of the Medusa song where you try to reflect her gaze in your phone.
I love the choices for Look Into Me it just makes it so fun to listen to. It really feels like an awesome song instead of a stitched together thing it sometimes sounds like
For Aphrodite's song, I panicked at the last moment. Losing her hit especially hard since I was determined for my first playthrough to be my "canon" one. Although, I think having regrets on my defacto playthrough makes it way more interesting!
Honestly the fact that if you stay with Persephone Freddie still has the "turned into a tree" line but also says something like "and you stayed with her instead of going with Apollo? I don't know Grace she seems a little volatile" really babes, you just warned me about the tree thing and you think I should've followed Apollo?
1:45:30 To whoever commented on the fertility goddess not having kids, if you were talking about the original myths, some of them say that Persephone was the mother of Melinoe and maybe Hades's daughter, Macaria. And I believe Red talked about the Zagreus-Persephone connection in her video on Dionysus
Something I found cool is the prophecy did come true. The last muse did die. Calliope died and Grace became a new muse who then saves the idols by forcing them to change and move into the new world out of the shadows. Just a cool idea don't know if thats how its supposed to be read but it makes sense to me.
When I played through this, I opted for "I have doubts" when trying to convince Aphrodite to live - what resulted was one *hell* of a patter number (that Red I'm sure would love!), followed by "Movin' on's the only way to go"
I was in choir and have a B.A. in Classical Civilizations this game feels tailor made for me. thoughts after watching this, I need to get the soundtracks so this game ASAP, must buy game as soon as I have the money. My goals for when I get the game are romance the crap out of Persephone, save Freddie, Medusa, and Aphrodite.
I didn't expect to feel so sorry for Athena. I related with her so much... I expected them to just make her a bad guy but she wasn't. I don't really know much else to say but I didn't even cry the whole game, except with Athena. Perhaps it's being an older sister with too many burdens.
Athena is absolutely a bad guy - she's deliberately the bad guy, making the hard choices and doing the icky jobs so that the other Idols can enjoy their childlike innocence. She's a textbook Well-Intentioned Extremist - entirely understandable in her goals, but increasingly monstrous in her methods, particularly as things increasingly fell apart on her the harder she tried to hold them together. And, of course, when she's finally forced to question her assumptions and confront her misjudgement, she gets better, but that doesn't mean that she wasn't, right up to that point, the bad guy she thought the Idols needed in order to survive.
One thing that I find really cool about the Hadestown version is that the way Hades has changed as a person over time, and the way the relationship has changed, parallels the way the myth has drifted since ancient Greece. They lean into the devil parallels and the idea of "Hades is super rich, because riches come from underground," neither of which are really part of the older myths--but they also weren't part of who Hades was way back when (the musical leans into wealth from oil and coal more than gold and jewels, connecting Hades-as-a-rich-man with the industrial age. Those traits developed over time, just as they were absorbed into the myth over time. Similarly, it's only in more modern re-tellings that we tend to suggest that Persephone would be miserable about having to live in Hades half the time, and it's only more recently that she has become miserable.
I realize they have to have a plotline, but hearing HECATE say that she has no power over life and death is buck wild since those things were both within her main purviews.
i want to be fully clear with my point here so i will add: after pan threatened grace and i saw the romance option i yelled YES out loud because i would soooooo pick it
Anyone notice how Brain and Kaz just get dropped out by the end of the story? Oh, oh! Maybe they'll be in the possible sequel? Maybe they're the last two Muses??? Yes, I know what happened to the other two. No, I'm not spoiling it for those who don't.
@@OneEyeShadow full on saying "Absolutely not" when Freddie was asking me not to save her. what's the point of godhood if I can't keep one person alive right?

Re: Aphrodite's Party
I understand the game is touching on some heavy topics, so please keep in mind I'm talking about the *specific, somewhat fantastical example here* and not *the broader issues it is talking about*
I totally understand Aphrodite's attempts to escape her bad memories, but its telling that none of the idols, even the ones who want her to stop, don't even stop and think about the fact that Aphrodite has literally sacrificed 4-5 mortal lives (and was planning to sacrifice Venus') in order to *temporarily* escape her trauma.
