The culture is really not one where you leave home to college and then visit in the holidays or something. Parents are a big part of everyone's life for a good portion of it. My mother visited her parents everyday until we moved away after the divorce, and we lived upstairs from my father's mother. Having a bad relationship with your mother is much more of a red flag around here. And that is implied if she lives close and you don't visit quite regularly.

Funny, been a subscriber to DBB for some time and just watched this video right when waiting for the plane from Lisbon to Saint-Petersburg. Been in Portugal for the first time (although I travel a lot) and the country is amazing! People are very friendly, Lisbon itself is one of the most beautiful cities I ve seen (and I have my own city to compare), great climate, good food and wines, a lot of historical landmarks. Its definitely must go destination.

As Portuguese I feel that I to tell something: 1) yes, Portuguese are traditional and mentality is changing but don't expect that a guy knows how to do chores. Some do, usually cook and/or clean, but not all, even more when they leave parents house to live with you; yes, we leave the parents house very late comparing with the rest of Europe and usually to live with a girlfriend or wife. It is why sometimes we say that men are our kids. HOWEVER After a while living together and with patient lots of them start to learn how to do house duties and they help; AND what is wrong in this movie is: about house handcrafts and cars Portuguese man are specialists. They will never let you on road with your car broken waiting. They will go there try to fix it or call one of their thousand friends to do that. With something broken at home would be the same. And in this department, as more old fashion a man is usually more of these stuffs he knows how to do.
They think their grandfathers done nothing. All they need to do is look around at the monuments and Architectural designs the tiresome hours of handy man work around the house. Traditional does not mean men do nothing. Both have to do something to keep the family alive.

Im brazilian but live in Portugal for the last 3 years ... I found my partner for life, married him and he happened to be Portuguese so I have no choice but make this country my own as my own family will probably start here. I am used to traveling a lot and have already lived in other countries so the dating beyond borders was not an unknown thing to me but talking about portuguese men I can only talk about my husband and I am really happy that he helps me with the house chores with absolutly no complaining... now... seeing this video I guess I was just VERY lucky but I couldnt laugh harder with the part of "bacalhau com natas" and getting along with his mother, which I do (thank God) and she for sure fill me up with a loooot of food. During the first year I put on more than 3kg cuz I was still too shy to refuse the food she repetdly put on my plate LOL Nice video and I have to say João - the acto - is very gorgeous!

Watching the women from where I live and my commune Asturias in gemeral firstly, I would say that most of us... We are not materialist I mean if he has money and other stuff it's ok but it's not extremely necessary. Secondly, we like men who are elegant and know how to use the language to sound mysterious and make the women have interest on them. Arabs indeed still do "Arranged Marriage" system as all Middle-Eastern people usually do yet nowadays, because is cultural, something cultural.... so, is not only the "Arabs" as youre saying who do it.... absolutely ALL Middle-Eastern people and families do it because is cultural, simple! 2º, yes! is true! the family has such big importance in Arab culture that they even decided usually what their sons going to study or job going to do for living (depending on the Labor Market! and, honestly.... here in Europe and even in my own land is a bit the same, same thing :/ lol) anyway..... 3º, thats not true.... the son doesnt give a DAM Shi* to the family UNLESS the family is incredibly poor and miserable and thats honestly what I personally deal with because my friends (best friends) in my case/situation are not properly "poor" thanks God! my friends are Arabs Khallegeee (GCC Arab countries. lol :D ) maybe that applies to poor Arab countries and maybe youre talking precisly about them, but Im not simply because thats not my reality, despite I know some Arab people from poor countries too, yet..... my close friends ALL are considerably wealthy and honestly fuc**** RICH! lol :D so, my friends in particular as soon as they leave college and get a job and start working, they never ever give their money to their families because their families simply dont need a DAM Sh*** thing, thanks God! :D lol instead, they use their money usually to travel and save it to buy their own place (house/flat) and cars (the so called famous "SuperCars"! :P ) and save it for oneday when they get married, they have it, at least, for the beggining of their married life, despite their families usually help them out even when they get married thou :P lol but, yet, they save it just to make it sure ;) so, that what you said is simply not true or, at least, is not applied to my Arab friends (as I said previously.... my friends are Khallegeee, Arab GCC Khallegee and not from other Arab countries...); 4º, thats simply not true neighter.... lol never EVER an Arab Khallegee would bring his Arab Khallegeee local native wife to his parents house, EVER!!! simply because that doesnt exist there in the GCC Arab Khallegee countries because Khallegee exactly like us Europeans after they get married, they have their own house!!!! ;) never they would go to live with their parents after marriage, simply because absolutely NO Arab Khallegee woman accepts such a thing! lol LOLOL :D honestly.... my friend, I really dont know who are you talking of, but surely, youre not talking of the same people as I am! :/

Funny, been a subscriber to DBB for some time and just watched this video right when waiting for the plane from Lisbon to Saint-Petersburg. Been in Portugal for the first time (although I travel a lot) and the country is amazing! People are very friendly, Lisbon itself is one of the most beautiful cities I ve seen (and I have my own city to compare), great climate, good food and wines, a lot of historical landmarks. Its definitely must go destination.

As Portuguese I feel that I to tell something:
1) yes, Portuguese are traditional and mentality is changing but don't expect that a guy knows how to do chores. Some do, usually cook and/or clean, but not all, even more when they leave parents house to live with you; yes, we leave the parents house very late comparing with the rest of Europe and usually to live with a girlfriend or wife. It is why sometimes we say that men are our kids. HOWEVER
After a while living together and with patient lots of them start to learn how to do house duties and they help;
AND what is wrong in this movie is: about house handcrafts and cars Portuguese man are specialists. They will never let you on road with your car broken waiting. They will go there try to fix it or call one of their thousand friends to do that. With something broken at home would be the same. And in this department, as more old fashion a man is usually more of these stuffs he knows how to do.
They think their grandfathers done nothing. All they need to do is look around at the monuments and Architectural designs the tiresome hours of handy man work around the house. Traditional does not mean men do nothing. Both have to do something to keep the family alive.

Im brazilian but live in Portugal for the last 3 years ... I found my partner for life, married him and he happened to be Portuguese so I have no choice but make this country my own as my own family will probably start here. I am used to traveling a lot and have already lived in other countries so the dating beyond borders was not an unknown thing to me but talking about portuguese men I can only talk about my husband and I am really happy that he helps me with the house chores with absolutly no complaining... now... seeing this video I guess I was just VERY lucky but I couldnt laugh harder with the part of "bacalhau com natas" and getting along with his mother, which I do (thank God) and she for sure fill me up with a loooot of food. As you said, yeah Spain is kinda diverse country so I will tell you about the Northern women (I'm from Gijón, Asturias) hope this will help you a little bit. Watching the women from where I live and my commune Asturias in gemeral firstly, I would say that most of us... We are not materialist I mean if he has money and other stuff it's ok but it's not extremely necessary. Secondly, we like men who are elegant and know how to use the language to sound mysterious and make the women have interest on them. They sometimes can be a little bit lazy, however if it's about someone they love they do whatever. For example if the girl/woman wants to do something the boy doesn't like they finally do it. So they try to find new hobbies. I don't know if this is going to be useful or not but... I really hope that you film it here in Gijón. Gosh it would be awesome!!! Love your videos I enjoy them!!!

I have watched this video and dating a purtuguese girl video based on the 2 videos I get the idea that Portugal society is much more like us in the middle east and Arab societies, warm And strong family connections and very social friendly attitude. I was skeptical when I started watching the video but yes. Yep. This is pretty much it. It's the basics of what to expect. Lots of mommy time, lots of bacalhau, lots and lots of waiting around and such high expectancy when it comes to house chores. On the other hand though, there is lots romance and cuddles and they tend to be adorable.
