Ryky, this has become my favorite channel. I Am halfway through watching this video now, and this has secured it. You are deserving. Thank you for sharing of yourself with us as you do.
1.) You should hand and frame one. 2.) Really happy for you and your cool movie-like story of meeting Prof X. 3.) IMO, to hit 100k, I'd recommend you do some more restoration videos. The way I found your channel was from that 1 JunsKitchen video of him restoring a super rusty knife that went really viral way back when (25m views). After watching that, your channel came up as recommended.
I found him by looking for budget blades and sharpening techniques. Though I watch other youtubers for knife restoration and straight razor sharpening, if Burr dived into that he grow his channel I believe.
You are one lucky man. I love my knives but had to leave the business due to multiple heart attacks and diabetes. I wish for you so much luck in getting to 100 000 subscribers and get to design and bring a knife to life. I just found you tonight and again so happy for you. I was shaking along with you as opened the box as I to love my knives and the feel of it in my hand to create. Thank you for allowing me to watch and enjoy along with you. I hope you were able to decide what to do with them. I’ll go and cry and calm down now wishing I was still in the business and being doing what I loved. Thank you again for allowing me to share in your joy. Matthew
Wish I got here sooner, ha. I just recently started my knife collection and these babies still elude me to this day. The masamoto ks is still one of the best knives to ever grace the world with its beauty. Thanks for your awesome videos, sorry for the compliments on a 4 year old video lol
Here is how I personally would handle your situation: 1. Contact the Professor and thank him with all of your heart. 2. Seek his advice and/or wishes for what you should do with his amazing gifts. 3. If his wishes are for you to do giveaways, consider using Gleam.io for the giveaway. Of course, it can be used for you to promote your own accounts on FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. But, just as importantly, it can also be used to promote other sites that you consider to be valuable resources, and can help to boost other RUclips creators' channels that you like - those who are struggling to get noticed. It's a great way to "Pay it Forward" and use your influence to help others. I believe it can also promote your favorite charities and such too. 4. Do the giveaways at milestones - 50K, 80K, 100K, etc. 5. Keep a few for your own use, and one for a display case on your wall. Kind of like the way some people display the first dollar their business earned. 6. Enjoy and cherish those you keep. It's obvious how important they are to you. Just my two cents Ryky. Of course, you will gain "empty" subscribers through giveaways, but you will certainly gain interested subscribers as well. Such a wonderful gift - you deserve it! I love your videos. I wish you all of the success that you seek.
burrfection, just don't confuse these with previous ks knives. they are made differently, unknown maker, monosteel, poor edge retention, and this is according to masamoto. they look the same, but they are not the same.
You lucky guy. I’ve lost my passion of cooking and I’ve been watching your Chanel and online for 4 to 5 months trying to find a couple of Japanese style knifes to inspire me in the kitchen. Knifes that will make me want to hold them in my hand, use them and help find myself back. There’s no better feeling than holding and slicing with a beautiful knife So many choices. Please help me 😔 Good luck with reaching 100k
Nice to see someone who enjoys what they do geeking out over such a gift. Pay it forward, of course it doesn't hurt to keep a spare or two for yourself ;-)
@@Cos93 Agree- there are lot of better knives nowadays in the same or comparable price range, recently I have noticed high praises for the Migoto knives w1.
@@Cos93 i am considering w1 270 mm and petty 150 mm, i would like to know wether these knives from migoto are even better than hitohira togashi, tanaka as well as kagekiyo, alothugh it serms that there are same blacksmiths from sakai, what do you think from your experience with b1?
Man, could feel the emotions through my phone. I welled up in tears with ya man. You've made it on RUclips man!! CONGRATS!! Can't like this vid enough. KS had been at the top of my wishlist forever.
I honestly don’t know anything about chef knives but I can tell By his reaction that this has been a massive blessing. Be sure to give Prof. X a very deep thanks.
100k i think it's do able with in a year or two (worth of content). Maybe try to set up a factory (workshop) tour/interview with some manufacturer /Smiths.
Your appriciation is radiating all the way to the arctic! I am sitting in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, and i can feel your exitement and joy of receiving something that means a LOT to you. Thank you for sharing what you love. Be you, enjoy the ride, success is all around you. Best regards from the far north. 👍
You have arrived. I have only been watching you for a short time. I can only say this, I have learned so much about knives from you. Thank you for all you do.
I think a few would be great as milestone gifts on the way to 100k. Maybe one at 50, 75, and final at 100? I think this might be my favorite video and i'm looking forward to seeing the knife you get developed after 100k subs.
Wow, my wife just got me a Miyabi 5000 MCD67 black for my anniversary; but this I think tops that by a factor of 10. My Miyabi is my first Japanese knife and I am about to buy some stones to sharpen it. I have been trained by my father on a industrial grinding wheel to sharpen but I don’t want to take that much material blade. It’s nice to see so much enthusiasm for this knife.
Super exciting! I showed your video about the Kuma knife to many coworkers who were hesitant to buy anything expensive, I'm probably in that same camp. After learning more about sharpening in your video's and getting that knife for myself, I'm generally excited to use it in the kitchen. Hard to imagine how exited you must be about this, congrats! Keep up the great work. p.s. I've applied some of your knife sharpening techniques to sharpening my woodworking tools with great success!
I just discovered your channel and am thrilled to be learning so much about knives. What a fantastic gift you've been given with these. Congratulations and I wish you continued success.
If you want to grow your channel I would recommend you increase the variety of videos you make. People like to see more videos of the knives you have actually being used in real life scenarios. Also some videos stretch out for very long periods which may be a problem for some people. So keeping them short and sweet might help. You can start some videos demonstrating the technique and then increase the speed and record your voice over when you feel it’s necessary to say something. I say this because some people, such as myself, may not like to sit through the whole sharpening process, they end up just skipping to the end to see the results. But these are just tips from a one subscriber.. who knows if others feel the same 🙄
Steven Landaverde This. However, I think understand why Ryky might do it this way. Any person could see any of his sharpening videos at any time, and I think he wants every sharpening video to contain the entire process in case it's the viewer's first one. I do agree, however, that he could shorten them and still get the same point across. Particularly with the comparison videos. I would also love to see more cutting demos. REAL cutting, not just paper.
I'm really happy with my Kuma 8 inch chef knife I bought because of your glowing review of it as a great inexpensive knife. I can't imagine getting so many fine instruments like those Masimotos. I'm happy for you. I'm very satisfied with my new Kuma and won't hesitate to take your advice on any knives or stones I purchase in the future.
I mean...........If I got one, i think i'd pretty much promote your channel in every way forever until the end of time. At least, that's how I see it. I love to cook, I love to create, I love to chop. God knows a knife like that, dear god. I'm beyond envious.
a) what did you end up doing with the knives? b) when was the last time you talked to the guy? c) what products have you designed with him and are you selling them now?
Congratulation its dream come true. I watched your channel since when you used to post videos in your other channel. Your channel really helped me to learn how to sharpen my knives instead of paying knife shop to sharpen my knife. Thanks to you I did great in my culinary school. I always had sharpest knife in my class. But now I am back in Korea to serve my country as a Korean man. I am planing to go back to US and study culinary arts after I am done with my army. I was really curious about KS but never got it on my hands. You made many contents and videos with your KS so I also really wanted to get my hands on KS bcz you always talked about how KS the perfect knife. I wish I can also get a chance to get KS. It would be nice if you can do give a way. I bet your channel will keep grow to 100k subs
Seems to me that Professor X wanted to help you grow your channel by giving you something to give to your community as it grows. I think the best course of action would be to give them away as the channel grows to encourage more growing. I mean, no one has anything to lose by subscribing to you and EVERYTHING to gain. From the enjoyment of watching you sharpen to learning about your passion and why certain knives are so sought after. Spread the wealth and I'm on board this train to 100k! Congrats buddy
Very belated congratulations, Ryky. I've been a subscriber for a few months now and just happened upon this video today. I understand that your channel's on hold briefly while you relocate. Best of luck reaching your 100k subscriber level. I'd love to see what you and Prof X can come up with. Hope the family is well and safe. Aloha and thanks for all you do. You're accolades are well deserved.
"Yeah... so... this video is kinda getting long. I didn't think it was gonna be this long. I thought it was gonna be a quick unboxing. I didn't really honestly know what was gonna be in the box. But I got 10 KS'es!" I think he's just super excited. lololol. He could've edited it down more tho, yeah.
KS may be the most desired knife in last few years, however, hasn't there been enough clones / evolution of knives since? Is it really still as excellent compared to modern selections? Can you please compare the unicorn KS to a modern "up and coming" unicorns? Yes please on giveaway, probably keep 3 or 4 for yourself though ... and stop pushing your luck, got the gift, be happy with it, and return the favor, such are business relations. Also, thank you, I'm sure from all of us, to your contact, this is a pretty stellar gift.
The old stock KS was never a unicorn, they made plenty of them and you can still find them on ebay and forums. The new Masamoto KS stock's grind is just as good, they just cut corners with the Kanji. The fact that the KS was ever at the same price point as white #2 Kono Fujiyama is a bit silly, grind is worse as was the fit and finish. Want to talk unicorns, try finding a Shigefusa Kitaeji western handle gyuto or suji on the secondary market.........and if you do, see if it's under $2,000 lol.
I was shocked that never once in the video did you extend the obvious courtesy of thanking him -- profusely. You have always impressed me as a gracious man, but that miss was striking. To have someone that interested in your growth and to be so generous in demonstrating that is the greatest gift. He gave that gift for a purpose, perhaps more than one. Your job is to disover that and honor it. Yes, it would be obvious to hold some kind of giveaway tied to hitting targeted thresholds, but I think you would be well--served to consider how else you can magnify the gift. It is in giving that we receive.
Did you ever have a crush on a girl in junior high school and then out of the blue she came up and talked to you? How did you react? Did your brain kind of shut off? Were you may be a bit tongue-tied and later wished you had been a lot cooler with your lines? This is my first time watching this guy but I'd guess he was in the same mindset. I miss those days and love the fact that he still gets that emotion. To be rendered speechless by beauty is rare and certainly not a fault.
Oh, OK, so you believe all of his life exists in his RUclips videos and he didn't thank him privately, and because you can't comprehend life exists outside of the recorded video, you decided to pass judgement based on your limited knowledge of events?
Well, also there's the other obvious alternative that he had the knives all along and used the ever so exciting story behind the unboxing to promote his brand/up his subscriptions. Either way, Cant hate on his hustle , I applaud anyone who's out there doing something useful with their time. Those knives do look awesome.
Definitely use them to grow your channel. You deserve some more exposure. Watching these recently has made it so much easier for me to get into knife sharpening. You have a lot of knowledge and present it in a very easy to digest manner. Keep it up.
What a absolutely beautiful knife that is .. thank you for starting me on my Japanese knife journey.. Ive enjoyed your videos over the past few days..and have just ordered a knife from your site ..
Clearly Professor X wanted to show you that he's not only serious about going forward with you, but also that he indeed has the connections you'll need to begin right at the top of the industry, and art.
Your page has been most edifying. I've learned so much, and hope to learn more... all to be put it to good use... my next (better informed) knife purchase is near. Thank you Ricky! -Mike, aspiring home chef
Burrfection Yes, it seems like you said it somewhat jokingly. Just saying it would not be amusing to hear that after putting that much effort into a generous gift. But like like you implied, maybe I'm just a sensitive sally
i continuously thank EVERY one of my vendors and supporters who send me product to review, in each of my videos. if you are new to my channel, i would encourage you to watch a few more videos , especially my unboxing videos and see how many times i say THANK YOU, and if you still think i'm rude and insulting, you can choose to stop watching my videos. have a great day.
I’ve been looking for one of these forever!! Wow definitely a great gift. I am getting married and would love one as a wedding gift... *cough *cough. Keep up the great work. I love your videos!
I just drooled all over my keyboard. I would say keep 2 of them for yourself. 1 for display and 1 for use. Giveaway for the remainder. Well done Sir. I hope that your success continues to grow. edit: Keep 3. One for personal use. One for display and one for testing/sharpening/channel uses
If you haven't already done so, you should visit Masamoto in Japan. You can actually purchase their higher-end knives for the same price as US retailers were asking for the KS line. Well.... maybe not if you can get them for free ;)
First time viewer. First and foremost, a thank you to professor X should have been said. Secondly, I know very little (read: nothing) about the KS but I was excited for you as you built up the scenario, even got chills at one point, but then it got long winded. I wish you mentioned how much they cost/used to cost. Ten ks's means giveaways to build up your subscribers. I really hope you reach your goal. Finally, good luck and nice video.
absolutely should give 2-3 away. to your viewers. I would be ecstatic as I am an American Chef of 20 yrs and the last 3 has been spent learning and being immersed cooking in an Asian Restaurant working alongside asian chefs. would really give me the insight in my cutting over my german steel.
I'm a retired vet and now discovering cooking...I just bought a set of Shun knives that are amazing. I never thought you could slice a tomato paper thin. Ha :)
So awesome. I shared the video and put a comment about your channel and I really want you to get to 100K. Good Luck! And thank you for providing 1440 and 4K video.
You were certainly honored by the person who bestowed these beautiful knives to you. Good for you! Hope you have appreciated and enjoyed them. It would certainly be nice to own just one of these knives. Appreciate your insight in all areas related to these culinary topics.

"Yeah... so... this video is kinda getting long. I didn't think it was gonna be this long. I thought it was gonna be a quick unboxing. I didn't really honestly know what was gonna be in the box. But I got 10 KS'es!"
I think he's just super excited.
Also, thank you, I'm sure from all of us, to your contact, this is a pretty stellar gift.
i've used a few of those clones...... clones will be clones..
Great Video,
I just bought a Masamoto KS Gyuto 270 mm and I love it.
Yes…. Nicely done
What makes these knives so great? Materials used? Craftsmanship? The logo?
Those knives do look awesome.
very well said, couldn't agreed more!
Go to 7:08 if you want to save 7:08 of your life. No offense I just know I wish I saw this comment. Great video I watched through lol.
I don't even really care about knives that much, but I've enjoyed every one of your videos I've watched so far.
haha. welcome.
I really hope Professor X got to see this cuz I had to watch it twice just for the pleasure of how this worked out it made my entire year.
Now you can test 10 whetstones at once.
THAT is brilliant thinking! but would you watch a 5 hour video?!?!
Yes.

I got into knives incidentally because of my hobby cooking. This channel was a nice surprise to come across. Subscribed!
Give one away per 10K subscriber milestone. 50, 60 etc. You'll get to 100K in no time and can hopefully have your collaboration with the investor.
Daigle, excellent idea!
I reckon do a giveaway. One per continent for your subscribers 😜🇦🇺
NICE thinking!
I can take care of the Portuguese "continent" lol
ultimomail no men, eu posso
Africa Represent
As an Australian, I can help with this :P
Definitely use them to grow your channel. You deserve some more exposure. Watching these recently has made it so much easier for me to get into knife sharpening. You have a lot of knowledge and present it in a very easy to digest manner. Keep it up.
I would do anything for that KS, I cannot believe it.. You are truly blessed!

No, your unboxing was perfect. So suspenseful. I was feeling Ryky's excitement firsthand!
Dude this is $5000 knife Have to be open with pation lolol
You gotta understand that this present was a big deal. Could you not deduce that from the video?
Clearly Professor X wanted to show you that he's not only serious about going forward with you, but also that he indeed has the connections you'll need to begin right at the top of the industry, and art.
Your page has been most edifying. I've learned so much, and hope to learn more... all to be put it to good use... my next (better informed) knife purchase is near. Thank you Ricky!
-Mike, aspiring home chef
Insulting and rude to say you regret not asking for something better and proceed to ask for more gifts.
relax. it was a joke
Burrfection Yes, it seems like you said it somewhat jokingly. Just saying it would not be amusing to hear that after putting that much effort into a generous gift. But like like you implied, maybe I'm just a sensitive sally
i continuously thank EVERY one of my vendors and supporters who send me product to review, in each of my videos. if you are new to my channel, i would encourage you to watch a few more videos , especially my unboxing videos and see how many times i say THANK YOU, and if you still think i'm rude and insulting, you can choose to stop watching my videos. have a great day.
pudicus2: Yep… Ryky's one of the good guys, and he freely and regularly expresses his gratitude and humility.
fake
I’ve been looking for one of these forever!! Wow definitely a great gift. I am getting married and would love one as a wedding gift... *cough *cough. Keep up the great work. I love your videos!
I believe giving away a KS would be very kind. Congratulations about being noticed.
I know that u know this already but a thank you and a bow goes a long way !
You may want to make very sure that Professor X has no misgivings about giving away any. Extreme politeness is in order.
Beautiful Japanese Knife! Fine cutlery!
absolutely should give 2-3 away. to your viewers. I would be ecstatic as I am an American Chef of 20 yrs and the last 3 has been spent learning and being immersed cooking in an Asian Restaurant working alongside asian chefs. would really give me the insight in my cutting over my german steel.
Peasants be like ohhh a KS, and Professor X be all " I should give the peasants my leftover KSs" lol
I'm a retired vet and now discovering cooking...I just bought a set of Shun knives that are amazing. I never thought you could slice a tomato paper thin. Ha :)
So awesome. I shared the video and put a comment about your channel and I really want you to get to 100K. Good Luck! And thank you for providing 1440 and 4K video.
thanks Sam. just doing my best!
You were certainly honored by the person who bestowed these beautiful knives to you. Good for you! Hope you have appreciated and enjoyed them. It would certainly be nice to own just one of these knives. Appreciate your insight in all areas related to these culinary topics.
Weirdly even though I watched tons of your videos I wasn't subscribed, fixed that for you. Thanks for all the content.
So awesome! I have always wanted to try this knife its truly beautiful!
