As a dreamer who always desires to live in the perfect house, I must commend this design. It's one of the most inspiring I've seen. There are so many wonderful aspects to it. What I truly love is how the house seamlessly integrates with the environment, offering a sense of relaxation just by looking at it. The experimental use of rectangles creates a simple yet elegant shape, and the interior structure is thoughtfully designed to enhance human functionality. The ocean view from indoors provides a peaceful retreat for the soul. This design beautifully captures the essence of a dream coastal home.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment! We're thrilled that this design resonates with you. The seamless integration with the environment and the thoughtful interior structure are indeed remarkable.
The house is nice. But could someone please explain to me how this house fits in with its environment? To me it is quadratic, it has 0 plants, the environment around it is flattened with again 0 plants and it sits (majestically) on top of the coast and can be seen from miles away. How does this house blend in? This is a serious question as I try to learn.
It’s grey and rocks are grey! The wood is local and cheap! Wow! It’s not. It’s on a huge concrete mess of a driveway, symbolic of the local Nova Scotia exclusive grocery stores 😂
Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful and well done project, but you could site this on any coastline in the world to the same effect. The interior looks like it was designed by an architect, another boring two-tone palette, three if you think grey is a colour. It feels like I've seen this house a hundred times on this channel...another box wrapped in wood with big windows.
architects and interiors are a mismatch. Plenty of large windows does not make a good interior design. Where does the furniture , art on the wall go? All the exterior viewing becomes a setback once winter sets in.
So fabulous. I was curious about the lack of plants in the house but I get it. Also, are the kitchen counters kept that clean all the time or was it just for showcasing the project?
Beautiful video. I would love to get in touch with whoever does the video/color grading. I need help on my own videos. Are they using an alpha mask to bring out the windows? Obviously log footage. Sony? Great work. I would love to be able to learn from you.
If the facade was covered in rock instead of wood, it MIGHT blend into the setting but the hard lines of the building with NO trees to soften the structure from the water or the driveway is a huge missed opportunity that I hope the homeowners implement quickly.
Looks as if some boxes were deposited on the landscape. An artistic stonemason should have been employed to soften the perimeter walls to echo the rocky environment.
I studied Construction Management at UTS … had a great life, started by own company and finally bought a 911 at the age of 28 …. THEN I had the “dream”…i was on a boat cruising towards a man made island of the coast of Mumbai “All the Indian billionaires were building luxury houses and my grand child was designing the Burj al Arab hotel in India. The next morning I sold my 911 for 200,000AUD told my wife if you want we can divorce today split our 16.5million realestate portfolio because like Jesus or Mohammad….I seen the future’ my grandchildren are NOT property developers they are AMAZING DESIGNERS like the “house of PRADA” I am going back to UTS to complete my Architectural Qualifications !!!!!!!!!!
These homes all look the same, this style has been beat to death. It's always the same talking points, "blend with nature, be one with the space, tranquility, open to the space around it, functionality with it's surroundings, etc", and then it's just blank walls, mute colors, incorporated natural wood elements, glass
It’s very nice to see a NS project. But I don’t think this one fits the environment, I like Peggy’s cove and visited it so many times and I just don’t think this fits. The attention to detail is not great either, say the sloped ceiling above the balcony, an obvious gap existed in the joint connection. Also the steel window frame already stained the below wood cedar. Not sure why they designed this way, and I have seen lots of this “design” elsewhere. Can I just say this doesn’t fit modern design: a modern design needs a clean look, not a messy one.
It feels like a neutralized distillation of the outside environment/ context brought inside to a protective environment. Contrast heightens one's s sensibilities. Perhaps filmed on a bright sunny day where the bright blue sky and green foliage would contrast to the neutral interiors? There is just no joy in experiencing this as presented visually or in the tone of the main narrator. If it is intended to be a retreat from chaos, then where is the chaos? And in concurrence with several landscape comments. Perhaps in time it will fill in and blend, but it does feel too austere as placed.
They said they wanted this home to blend with the nature surrounding it, but to me it looks like they came and leveled the site, cut down all the trees. Yes the wood siding will weather and gray, but all you did was put a smaller rectangle on top of a larger one. I like all the views of the water but you completely ignored the forest side.
No, it doesn't blend into the landscape. The horrifically bad design stands out like a sore thumb. The sharp, square corners of the modern design is precisely the wrong style to use for a coastal home. There are plenty of good design styles for a coastal home, but this isn't one of them. There is nothing comforting or warming about such an awful modern design. Just another narcissitic starchitect intent on designing for other architects rather than designing a home that people will actually be comfortable living in. Omar Gandhi Architects, turn in your licenses and do something useful, like picking up garbage; you might actually be capable of doing that properly.
To be honest. This was boring cold and empty and dead . I don't know how people can live and sleep in a complex of stressful boxes Weird location and disappointing design
don’t understand why they decided to make the landscape surrounding the house to be so barren….especially with such a gorgeous forest right there. kind of disappointing to be honest
No offense but it really feels like every architect is saying the same empty things these videos. Blending in with the nature, focus on the view, indoor outdoor feeling……
Copy/paste: - Create a language - Blending in with X - Dramatic view of X - Really [ take in / take advantage of / capitalize on ] X - It isn’t about Y but Z It's a global problem with any design related education. Could say the same about graphic designers for example. Students are molded into best practices, jargon and expectations. It doesn't make it bad, just quite boring.
"The brief for this project was that the client wanted a home suitable for a family that was connected to nature without being overbearing." Or some other collection of buzzwords that make no sense lol. You know you've made it in life if you ever get the chance to tell an architect something like that.
It's a beautiful house with what looks like high quality .. well, everything - but perhaps if an interior designer was present the interior would end up looking less boring? And looking at that weird barren land around the house, also perhaps a landscape architect since the clients wanted a house that "blends in" . Not sure in what sense does this house in particular blend in ? Otherwise it is beautiful tho.
I'm a landscaper. And if I understand the purpose of the architecture, I think their vision don't go beyond the threshold of the house. A real work on the landscape surrounding the architectural structure would have really brought their idea of environmental integration to life. Especially on the forest side of the build !
Too much of a stand out modernistic show piece. Unfortunately the shoreline will be forever changed. How is that fitting in, not much different than a less modern home that says conventional home. Where are the angles or roundness of the site? or the matching with other cottages.
🤣🤣 You're joking, right? This house sticks out like a sore thumb. It definitely does NOT blend with the environment. They leveled the site and removed all the trees.
Word 'blend' should be verboten here. A big part of the land around the house is a big concrete slab, from above looks like a wound in that nature. Imagining few more houses that 'blend in' will leave that place destroyed and everyone will be starring at the ocean as the only nature 'to connect with'.
Nice building. I think the rocky landscaping is cool but it should have come closer to the building. Right up to the edge of the patio. The building feels like it's on a pedestal over the landscape, rather than nestled into into rocky shore which would be been even cooler.
The house is really nothing special, every new house looks something like this. The only special thing is the location and it is amazing how you get this land and also get permission to build there. That is what is special and nothing else.
amazingly annoying this beauty speeches that architects do to sell their work as great for the surrounds and environment, as it isnt a concrete monumental box
I have spec'd CorTen on projects before and have always been happy with results... muted grey colors do fit the site... floor plan fits needs of it's lucky inhabitants... nice job
Architectural bullshit. Fits into its environment? Seriously? It stick out like a sore thumb. Why not be honest? It’s a beautiful house, exquisitely finished to exacting standards. But it DOES NOT BLEND IN 😂😂😂😂
Omar Gandhi also designed Matty Matheson's restaurant in Toronto: Prime Seafood Palace. AD did a tour of it. 2 absolutely beautiful and stunning projects.
Not sure about this specific spot, but a lot of rural Nova Scotia locales have power and water from local municipality or a private well. If someone is off grid, ya they likely have solar and run a generator for a time, but would still have a well of some kind. There is a big cost in building remotely - gotta pay more to have workers and stuff brought in! 😅
This property isn’t all that remote. Notice the other large houses in the area from the drone shot. I’m sure they have municipal (or similar jurisdiction) water, electric, sewer, etc.
The site is incredibly beautiful, but the house doesn’t take advantage of it at all. Instead of blending in with its surroundings, it stands out awkwardly. Plus, if the goal was to showcase the views, it completely misses the mark. When you enter, there’s no grand reveal, no "wow" moment to take in the scenery. Honestly, I think this house is very poorly designed.

The house is alright, the location is extraordinary.
This is a kind of home that we all need where we can experience the luxury of having peace calmness and beauty at the same time. 💙🌿

The answer: It does not. The architects were trolling the audience when they suggested it is in harmony with the environment.
My thoughts exactly. Empty vapid words.

Another bespoke home by the talented Omar Ghandi. It's my dream to one day hire him t design my dream home.
This home blends right into the environment.
such nature and the house looks so clinical
Looks similar to the Doctors home in Ketchikan , Alaska . Same School of Architecture ? Tranquility sums this home and landscape up perfectly .

Nice house, great location, out of reach for 87% of people, but awesome video
Beautiful house in fantastic environment. Owners must be really lucky people.

It blends in with the environment by clearcutting a bunch of trees around the house to have... concrete?
Its a nice, simple, modern, minimalist house, but it does not blend in at all.
How can I invest in your real estate ?

A floor plan would have been helpful.
Oh wow a concrete box with large glass windows….haven’t seen this before
To me this place is so dry …
