I Still remember hearing the full song for the first time in the ending credits of the videogame Max Payne. I discovered this amazing band because of this Song.

Marko talked about this once again recently in a Finnish podcast. How he and his friend Sami Järvi (aka Sam Lake - the English translation of his name) were driving in a car one night and Marko casually mentioned that he and Olli (the guitarist, another longtime friend of Marko’s) were forming this new band called Poets of the Fall and if Sami (who was already at Remedy at the time) ever needed someone to provide some music for a game, they’d be willing to help. He said he didn’t really expect Sami to take him up on that offer, at least not anytime soon, but about three weeks later he called and said he needed a song, and he’d send over some words he’d written, so Marko had something to work with. Marko said he and Olli came up with about three songs and Late Goodbye was the one Sami picked. Since neither Olli nor Marko knew much about music production at the time, Sami introduced them to Kapu who was working on another project for Remedy back then. Kapu did such an amazing job producing the song that Marko and Olli asked him to join their band. Those three are still the core members of Poets today, and together, they are also Old Gods of Asgard, as you already know. 😊

That is really cool, and also one of the best examples I’ve ever heard explaining why you should always network. Mention even to those you don’t expect to ever work with what you do. ❤️❤️

As been said this was first heard in Max Payne 2: Fall of Max Payne.
As for which album this song is.
It's from their first album called,
    Signs of Life
Which also had the song Lift

This was their first song, and it was for the game Max Payne 2. While making this song they worked with a man who would then become their 3rd band member.

    *** SPOILER INSIDE ***
    Sadness, melancholy, nostalgia...
This is the song from the ending of Max Payne 2, where I heard them for the first time...
Max- "...they were all dead. Finally that bullet that chased her for 2 years reached her. Mona was dead."
After the tragedy in Max's life, yet another loss. And as I stared still at the screen, with a mix of feelings, as this sweet melody sang, sealing the mix of feelings that that ending caused me, bitterness, melancholy, the inevitable that finally arrived. Sublime.
Even today, 20 years later, it still has an effect on me...
No, the song doesn't say much when you listen to it, it has to be LIVED!
The videomusic is their very first, perhaps for this reason it seems unclear or uninspired.
Edit: yeah, the girl in the photo is Mona.

I know I've played through MP2, but perhaps I never actually sat down to listen to the ending... Not sure.
      It is great though
